Classroom Valentine's Day Drama 

My son is in 2nd grade and has been "dating" the same girl since kindergarten. He bought her a sweatshirt that matches one of his with money he earned doing extra chores. His "dating" life is more stable than mine. 😅

Valentine's Day. High School. The day of teddy bears the size of Volkswagens, balloon bouquets big enough to lift the bearer, cheap dollar store candy and crying teens. Yep, loved it.

I worked abroad for a while as a student teaching assistant. The teacher of the class was male and we became friends. There's was also a female 1:1 in the class with a student too, and she was also good friends with this male. teacher. The kids decided to ship me and the male teacher together. Then, when I wasn't there one day and he went to grab lunch with the 1:1, they were genuinely terrified he was cheating on me. When I came back, they all gathered together like "Omg Miss Emily, I'm so sorry about Mr (male teacher). He went for lunch with the 1:1, and we thought you deserved to know. I love that they had enough love for me to tell me that and also that they had no idea the male teacher was gay with a husband at home so therefore no interest in me. 😂😂

You're spot on about how awkward middle school relationships are. When my boys were in middle school, my youngest son would always end up in relationships he didn't really want to be in. The girls would come up to him and "say I like you. Do you wanna be in a relationship with me?" He would say,"I guess if you want to. " 🤷🏽‍♂️ Then, the girls would end up getting upset because he wouldn't call them 24-7 or want to stay on the phone all day with them. I had to tell him to stop getting into these types of relationships because it didn't seem like he really wanted to be in one. Lol When my oldest son was in middle school he asked if I could buy some boxes of chocolate for his then "girlfriend" No lie he instead of giving her the chocolates he ate the one I bought for him and then ate the box he had for her 😑 🤣😂 Now they are both in HS and my oldest is "in love" they stay on facetime all day and even go to sleep while still on FT. Smh I always end up hanging up the phone because he's knocked out sleeping while she's on FT also sleeping 😴 lol awww the joys of puppy love.

I taught Kindergarten for 19 years and first grade for 7. I had the students write their name on their valentines, then each student just walked around placing one valentine in each student’s bag. It goes very quickly. Half of the class did it before lunch, then the rest after.

I'm definitely married to my middle school awkward boyfriend. After being obsessed for YEARS through school over him. Watching him in other relationships I finally move on and get pregnant at 19 then 3 years later we reconnected and have been together 8 years married 6

So im a teenager who is in year 9/9th grade and I am from England so we don't celebrate valentine's Day like how the Americans do. So I have a twin (obviously not gonna say her name) but she has had a boyfriend (not gonna say his name either) but one of my teachers is so nice but hates the boyfriends and girlfriends but we all still do it. So the day before valentines day we go to her class and our class is so excited and she didnte know how many boyfriends and girlfriend there were until that day. She was shocked that there was that many. But the assistant for helping out our sensory child asked me if I had a boyfriend I said maybe... 😬. And the day it turned valentine's Day we all just go to our lockers and the gift ceremony starts. We all go ALL OUT and it's so fun. When we go to her class she was confused why we were so happy. And I said that we all got valentine's Day presents and it was so sweet. There are about 5 pairs of boyfriends and girlfriends at our school and basically I have just spilled the tea ☕ about valentine's Day. Mic drop 🎤💥.

I told my teacher my crush one time and then I told her that my friends boyfriend was Bearton and guess who was sitting next to me and GUESS WHO WAS SITTING NEXT TO MY FRIEND then when I asked her a question and she said “*helping me* Oh and Maddy” “yes?” “you’re welcome”

Wanted to share a story from my neice: She said she liked this guy a lot. They flirted all during classes, did projects together, and overall hung out all the time. Oh and they dyed their hair with a matching purple streak. she thought they would become boyfriend/girlfriend soon and he would ask her to the school dance. When he didn't ask her, she finally asked him if he would go to the dance with her. He said "yeah totally! Let me ask my girlfriend and if she says no, we can go!" She said he said it like it was a causal Tuesday. 💀

Oh honey.. the batman valentine story just broke my heart 💔 All the more reason to teach kids that you can like boys or girls or both or none and that's fine.

My school was huge, the only 7-12 grade in the public schools. Every grade level had a graduating class of 400 approx. The benefits of being in the same building the middle schoolers got to partake in the programs that were meant for the upper class men like these Secret admirer roses that they sent out for Valentine’s Day. Every time someone came in to deliver roses there was someone crying when they left the room. Most of the classrooms were us girl’s writing these elaborate love notes on our black paper with silver jelly rollers. Everything seemed so life and death back then. Now, when I hear my friend’s teenager going on about the dating politics at school I just laugh. It was the end of the world back then, and how I would love for those to be my biggest issues lol!

I love this episode. I remember Valentine’s Day being so traumatic every single year. But I never thought about how these adult teachers had to be the ones overseeing all of this trauma. I bet you all have ptsd from having to witness all of these kids little hearts breaking left and right

I went back to visit my 5th grade teacher the day before Valentine’s Day because I had to pick up my little brother and we parked on a different spot than usual and one of the kids came out with there Valentine’s Day box and they had made a cardboard valentines day vending machine with like candy in a window and everything it was so creative and amazing but it was like have her size and it was just funny to see a little girl carrying around this huge thing

Ya know what I don't like...when the PTO sends out forms so that the kids can buy heart lollipops to give to their friends. Of course, there are kids who have no friends. (my one child) It so sad for that kid to come home with no lollipops. I get why the PTO does this but please think of those kids who never get a lollipop. They also did this for the Christmas holidays. Also, my kids went to a school in a low income area. People didn't have the money to buy these items (they charged a $1 each). I'm just happy my kids are older now. Great video as always.

Dear teachers off duty, every Sunday night I get in bed and I listen to your podcast, it’s basically a personal tradition at this point,but I have a topic that I would really like for you to talk about on the pod, it doesn’t have to be the whole episodes topic but I would like if you atleast included it in a episode. I am personally homeschooled, but my friend is not and she is very very smart and has the best grades in her class, her teacher made a partner work where you make a poster with someone, or a group, idk. But the teacher told her “ you won’t work with a partner because your grades are the highest in the class”. Personally I don’t think this is ok, That actually should not be ok, working together isn’t because you need someone else to help you do something or because your not the smartest person ever, it’s for working on your team work and partnership, the school should not allow someone to work alone because their “better” or have “better grades compared to others” even if you are the smartest you still need to learn how to work with others and compromise and work with new people. Kids still new to learn life skills, school is not just for math, reading, grammer, etc. kids need to learn how to cope and work with new people in their future, they need to be inconvenienced sometimes, and they need to be good at working with someone who does not have the same knowledge as them. I may not be right in this topic, I’m only 11 but it would mean absolutely everything if you could include this in an episode! Thankyou so much for your time!! 🫶🏻

I’m in 6th grade and today my science teacher told me a story about a friend at a different school, and I wanted to share it with you. This teacher has asthma, and her students know that. One day when she had left the classroom, all her students started spraying room spray, perfume, body spray, etc. This caused her to have a MAJOR asthma attack in the middle of class. This is so awful and it’s very sad bc my teacher used to teach there but switched to my school bc of the horrible students.

I got my very first boyfriend at the end of 4th grade, and it lasted for almost 2 years and ended in 6th grade because he cheated on me. I later found out that it was a mis communication and the girl was his female friend not his girlfriend. Middle school. What a time to be alive.

I had a friend that was dating this girl from kindi-grade 5. They actually went on real dates too, dinner, movies etc, by themselves (no parents, siblings, nothin) Also my brother and his gf are in gr 12 and they have been dating since grade 9, crazy for hs

My kids school isn't having parents send anything. They are having friendship day and doing things for each other at school. When they could take things I may have been the extra mom (before I became a teacher haha).

I was subbing once on Valentine's Day and due to the general class schedule at that school the teacher had set out the time for Valentine's right before snack/recess and had even left a bunch of sugar cookies from the grocery store for her class and specifically mentioned in the sub plan, "they can have these in addition to their school snack" which will be before recess. Two kids in the class ALSO brought sugar cookies to hand out and as soon as the kiddos got into their Valentine's Day candy (in addition to the three cookies they got) there was no stopping them from devouring everything (especially since they had a substitute that they did not want to listen to). So basically recess that day ended up being a hurricane of sugar rush + kids getting sick from all the sugar. >.

When i was little my mom made me give everyone a valentine and if i was going to give my friend a birthday invite,i had to give everyone an invite,even the boys,even though they never came to not one of my birthday parties. All that really did would make me feel bad when my mom would prep all these things and only less than 10 people would show up. The last birthday i had,only my best friend showed up,so we ate all the snack bags my mom made.

At my school we do not celebrate any holidays. We are allowed to have friendship parties at valentines day time. We give them bags to decorate them at school. They can bring valentines day cards or treats to share.

My now twelve-year-old thinks that she has a boyfriend currently but I also found out she's had like 3 or 4 different boyfriends since 6th grade and she legit thinks she's dating these people I just laugh at her and say yeah I had middle school boyfriends too but bottom line is you can't even date them. #1 its our rules and they could not pick you up in a car they can't buy you anything with their own money And you're not allowed to date until you're graduated so good luck with that sister..

I have my first graders address them with names. It takes less than 30 minutes for all deliveries to be made. I like for them to be personal. If they bring other cards/gifts for other teachers, I have them all deliver them by groups after that. Two kids take all the ones addressed to PE coach; 2 kids take to the office staff, etc. No sweat. Veteran teacher. 😉

we don't have required things to give at my school (I'm in 8th grade, but we did when I was younger). BUT i really like giving gifts, so... yeah. I'm not in a relationship, because middle school relationships (and high school ones to an extent) are just ew. However, I give stuff to all my friends. So they're all getting baked goods, chocolates, painted bottle cap key chains, and possibly more candy (plus one extra thing if they want it; for example, one of them wants flowers). also notes. I'm not extra you're extra. (but seriously, i do not know what i'm doing with my life)

OMG I hate Valentines Day as a teacher! It is better in PreK because I do not give parents homework. Students can sign their Valentines or not. They must bring 20 NON ADDRESSED Valentines and I put them in the bags during nap. Then we eat snacks and put treats in their 🎒.

High school dating was the best virgin years of my life because I think when u r that age it’s really no expectations well in MY high days I had 2 boy friends for 2 years in the same school I had our schedules down to the tee it blow up my senior year my 12th English teacher pulled me to the side and definitely told me how toxic I was because she knew both of them were loved me she told me my mind and heart was not in-line but both of those men now are still amazing men!!
