Thank you for posting this! Gosh, we got an amazing claw foot tub for free and we took out a shower stall in a house we are renovating and renting out to use the "fancy tub...". Sigh... I realized my great idea, that my husband went along with because I was so excited, was/is just a pain in the... tub... ugh. The shower curtain, faucet thing has made us crazy! We are DIYers, so your idea just alleviated a big headache! (I had thought of the longer armed, articulating, rainhead type shower head, (been there in the sleeping bag shower experience), but we were still thinking we needed to have a ceiling mounted oval rod system to cover ever wall!

So helpful! I will be viewing an adorable bungalow this Sunday. The only deterrent to renting was my boyfriend's objection to-- as you say-- showering in a sleeping bag. Nice description by the way. This is an excellent and easy explanation for a clever and easy fix. Maybe I'll try it.

Hi Eric, How did this end up working? Did it keep the water in the tub?

All of this seems totally unnecessary. I used to struggle with this and saw all kinds of strange ways to solve the problem on youtube. It finally dawned on me that all you need are some outer decorative shower curtains around the outside of the tub and the vinyl liners on the inside, and strong magnets. Hardware stores and Home Depot (cheapest) carry these small chrome magnets. I've found the the 5/8" round to be the best and strongest, but the slightly smaller ones will work too. Simply place one magnet on the outside curtain, and one on the inside of the shower liner to stick the two together. This will prevent the shower curtain liners from pulling inward, as the outer curtain will hold it in place. Three or four sets of two will do on each set of liner and curtain will do it. That's six to eight magnets per set. They should be set about 6" higher than top edge of tub and and 15" apart. Also, be sure to stagger the adjacent sets of magnets about 3-4" higher so that the magnets will not catch each other when sliding the curtains open. That's the simplest and most efficient method I've found. Been using it for years.

By the way, forgot to ask. Now that you've installed it, would you say it removes your distaste for showering in the claw-foot tub? As in, what percentage of making-it-all-better is this fix? I'm guessing it still feels much less roomy than a regular shower, but maybe the added space completely removes the claustrophobic sleeping-bag nightmare? I've toyed with the idea of just putting down a very good waterproof mat and turning essentially the whole bathroom into the shower stall . . .

Jaywalker here! Sorry, but sometimes it just makes sense. Common sense should be the golden rule!

That is just not going to work w/ the ends open. It is not so much the direction the head directs the water but the water hitting your body and splashing in every direction. A lot will get on the wall on the faucet end and some on the other end. Now if the rectangle could be completed w/ pieces of rod clamped to the long rods, then it might able to be made water-tight.
