Did you know that Coraline was completely stop-motion and they had over 50 heads just for Coraline’s facial expressions? Yeah, these animations that people make completely by hand are so amazing and deserve so much appreciation. Sadly, you don’t see this kind of stuff anymore.
@calliemyersbuchanan6458
@calliemyersbuchanan6458 Год назад
What's funny is big budget movies like that are both easier and harder! It was easier because a computer calibrates which facial expression (and thus which head) is needed for each frame. This is especially handy when filming dialogue. But obviously harder because it's that much more complex of a system. I personally love the costumes for the armatures like all of Coralines sweaters were legit hand knitted!!!
@mushroomgirlie

I would argue that you can still see stop motion animations being produced, it just isn't easy to make it into mainstream media like say, Coraline or Nightmare Before Christmas.

Not many people know about the legend Ray Harryhausen he made a lot of iconic creatures, probably one of the best stop motion animators of all time. What made him so good was how he was able to create unique movements for different creatures to give them realistic textures like an octopus he really had to think about how tentacles move differently than human body and he did this with a bunch of mythical creatures he created that don't even exist in real life so it would be super hard to imagine their movement

Jazza if you read this, this is important...For claymation you need to think about it like sprites with video games. You need to have basically a bunch of different clay figures just for 1 action. And same goes for facial expressions and basic vowels when talking... A, E, I, O, U that's at least 5 different mouth positions just for 5 vowel sounds. And not including the rest of the alphabet like S or T pronounciations. Here's the basics with animation Different mouth shapes for vowels & alphabet Different facial expressions for emotions Different sprites/clay figures for each action & gesture If you can do these basic 3 things then your claymation will be much easier the hardest part will just be making all the clay figures which takes a lot of time but for a typic claymation scene they can have over 100 different clay figures just for those basics. To simplify things you can eliminate any talking so it's purely visual story telling therefor you don't need the mouth shapes for words.

I love how I could finally see how this is done up close. Easier to follow than the behind the scenes in movies like this even. It was really cool haha. Also, I like old tech or simple etc, but that laptop is really cool.... never seen that before ... gotta say it. Please make more of these :) it's cool to see it being made. Then it's also cool seeing how much you like it. If you worked in animation professionally (like movies) I bet it would be this style ii

Claymation creeps me out so much, and this captured my discomfort with claymation so well

That looks like a lot of fun! I do clay sculpting and have always wanted to try this.
