3x Cy Young Winner, NL MVP, 8x All-Star, lowest career WHIP and ERA, AND NOW World Series Champion! So happy for Kersh man, easily one of the greatest ever to do it.
I think the first commentator said it best when he said "one of the best curveballs in modern baseball". Kershaw is hall of fame material and it is unfortunate that the world series ring eludes him. I am a Red Sox fan but I have to say that this man strikes fear into the hearts of opposition players, fans and coaches and he is a delight to watch when pitching.
Amazing pitcher. Love watching him pitch. I hope he gets to pitch into his 40s & without any question marks as far as steroids go. How lucky was Vin Scully to see both Sandy Koufax and Kershaw let alone be / have a part in so much more of baseball history.
I didn't even think about it when I clicked on this video but one of the best things about it is being able to listen to Vin Scully calling a game. As an East coast person I think Dodger fans were incredibly fortunate they got to grow up listening to a national treasure.
How many times do I have to say this let’s be real here. All of these dodger fans are so clueless and ignorant. Sandy Koufax was a better pitcher if we are talking about Dodger players, that’s coming from a non dodger fan. Nolan Ryan is the best pitcher ever. No disrespect to Kershaw he is good but I don’t even think he is the best pitcher in the MLB currently if we are talking in the business right now Corey Kluber on the Indians, and Max Scherzer on the Nationals are looking better currently. I hate how everyone is so clueless and ignorant, Let’s be real here, come on.
Andrew Miller first i’m not a dodgers fan, i’m a yankee fan, i’m not the unique than say kershaw is the best in the business right now, for me is the best, the stats show that.
Andrew Miller Have you seen Kershaw’s numbers over the past 5 years? Yet you still want to compare to the likes of Corey Kluber and Max Scherzer? Give me a break
I am not talking about the last five years. I am comparing him to Scherzer, and Kluber so far this season and throw in Noah while I am at it. The Dodgers are doing horrible so far to the start of the season, and Kershaw has been ok so far this season but Kluber,Scherzer, and Noah are all way better than Kershaw so far in this season. Talking about history I can’t stand how people call him the best in the business because he isn’t right he second, as I said before Kluber,Scherzer, and Noah are all having better seasons this year so at that’s what I am comparing him to, but to call him the best in the business is hilarious Los Angeles is filled with a bunch of ignorant sports fans that I can’t stand. Relating back to baseball history I hate the Dodgers but Koufax was better at pitching than Kershaw no doubt, comparing Kershaw to Koufax is delusional and disrespctful towards Koufax. I bet you since LA is so ignorant if you ask most LA fans who Koufax was they are probably band wagoners and don’t even know who he is. The best pitcher ever without a doubt was Nolan Ryan, you can debut those opinions but they are right. Right now currently Kluber,Noah, and Scherzer are better than Kershaw and the Dodgers right now. I might be jumping the gun but I will say that the Dodgers aren’t winnning the World Series this year, so sucks for you guys, I will be loving seeing LA lose, get ready for that World Series hangover.
Koufax had 5-6 dominant years in a mostly pitcher-friendly environment, while Kershaw has had seven dominant years in a mostly hitter-friendly environment. To say he's not already at Koufax's level is ludicrous.
Koufax threw 4 no hitters including a perfect game, and never blew it in the playoffs which was the world series, and has a great resume on that alone. Not to mention striking out 15 Yankees in game 1 of the 1963 world series at Yankee Stadium, and game 7 winner on two days rest at Minnesota of the 1965 world series. kershaw is no where near that level of Koufax. What kershaw is now is longevity, Koufax was throwing upper 96 MPH fastfall with the greatest curveball in baseball, kershaw not even close. Kershaw is not even randy johnson.
Again, Koufax did most of his best work in a time where hitters were at a disadvantage. Check out the stat ERA+, and you'll discover that Kershaw > Koufax.
I miss those Dodgers vs. Giants games on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. The days where it was Kershaw vs. Lincecum. Two Multi-NL CY Young Award Winners going at it... *EDIT:* I’m sorry. I meant to say Two Back to Back NL CY Young Award Winners...
Great command of all pitches... and a devastating curve that rarely hangs. Then he's got the 95-97 heater. He reminds me somewhat of lefty Steve Carlton who use to snap that curve off. I think he should throw change a bit more.
As a Rockies fan even I was kinda bummed at that error. There are no hitters thrown every season but perfect games are exceptionally rare. We could have at least been in the record books for being the team that Kershaw pitched a perfect game against. 😒
Someone needs to make a compilation of all the times Vin Scully called Kershaw "Koufax." It may not be a long video, but I've personally heard it live at least 3 times.
even tho he doesn't hit 98 anymore.. that ball flies out of his hand like it does. It's what is called sneaky fast. Most pitches lose about 15 mph by the time it reaches the plate and I'd say for his fastball to look faster probably means he only loses about 5-10 mph by the time it reaches the plate which is... elite. I assume he probably has one of the higher spin rates. I love it when it looks like a fastball maintains velocity the entire way bc it just looks like the ball flies to the plate and spin rate helps with that too as it makes the ball drop less.
Get outta here, I am not a dodger fan and your disrespecting Sandy Koufax who was no doubtly better than Kershaw. Nolan Ryan was the best pitcher ever. Kershaw isn’t even the best pitcher at this very moment. The Nationals and Indians pitchers Max Scherzer, and Corey Kluber are better than Kershaw at the moment. Let’s be real here come on.
Yah but saying that is absolutely delusional Koufax was way better if we are talking Dodgers, and if we are talking greatest pitcher ever Nolan Ryan was amazing hard to argue with that. I would let him have his opinion if he wasn’t a delusional ignorant dodger fan.
We may all look at the reality of the 33 pitchers then in 2005 November's first issue of the American Journal of Sports Medicine statistics on how much range of motion they lost that year against the pitchers non-dominant elbow of 13% that year alone. Now we see why he is failing. Mlboa uses injury to monopolize all baseball players where they are injured only in the batters box and pitchers box. Dr. Mike Marshall says its only truth.
I was at that game where he beat the Giants 1-0 for his first career shutout and complete game.....that sucked, Barry Zito pitched such a great gsme and lost on an error by the future Dodger Juan "Booo" Uribe
Jacob Norling Jackie Robinson? Don’t get me wrong, Kershaw is arguably the greatest pitcher of all-time, but you can’t overstate the influence Jackie had on baseball and the country in general.
He is not the best dodger are you kidding me, I am not even a Dodger fan and I know Sandy Koufax was better. The best pitcher in my mind ever is Nolan Ryan. I don’t even think Kershaw is the best pitcher any more, Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber are probably better at the moment. Let’s be real here.
