As a former jeweler, these are great tips! Good job! Just one other tip when cleaning jewelry, be careful using certain chemicals on gemstones, some gems are more delicate than others such as emeralds and pearls, they can be damaged by harsh/strong chemicals.
I do!!! I have been in a jewelry kick lately, I've been getting stainless steel pieces because they are more affordable. I'm actually online looking for storage solutions for my necklaces cause I have too many now.
@@NeoQueenEternia I have been getting stainless steel jewelry well. The prices are affordable and I love it. Also, like you, I need more storage because I have been buying jewelry like crazy, lol.
I recently went through my costume jewlery and immediately wanted to clean the silver stuff. Your tips were fantastic! I tried the aluminum foil and baking soda with boiling hot water on some silver bracelets - WOW! Thank you.
Hi Melissa. The only jewelry I keep on for days is small gold studs, which I wear to keep my piercing holes open and healthy. I almost always remove my diamond studs after each wear, and I always remove my necklaces after wearing them, and my rings when I clean, cook, or go to bed. Thanks for all your videos--I've spent the early morning binge-watching!
I learned about this awhile back when I started collecting sterling silver jewelry and wanted some cleaned. I cleaned up a lot of old pieces with the tin foil and baking soda trick. Works like magic, literally haha
Aaaah... Aweeeesome! Just what I was looking for. Thank you for this! 🙂🙌 I am one of those that remove all my jewelry before sleeping, swimming and bathing. Everything except one pair of earrings that stay in all the time.
As someone who used to make sterling silver jewelry, your body chemistry can also tarnish your silver, mine does it, my husband's does not! If you keep silver in a ziploc baggie without air it will stay tarnish free longer than in open air and you can buy antitarnish lined jewelry boxes and you 100% do NOT need oil to untie knots but pins or needles do help, as does a magnifying glass of the chain is tiny
1 more tip in storing silver jewelry without it getting tarnished is to place it in a air tight baggy, and then put store it in your box , that always works great for me!
I use a plastic measuring cup and put ammonia in the cup, and heat it up in a microwave. Take it out and drop my jewelry in. After a few minutes, I use a soft toothbrush and dip out one piece at a time. I use the toothbrush to clean and rinse in cold water. It makes my jewelry look brand new. I have done this for years.
I keep my jewellery on all the time . I take them off when I change from Gold to silver depending on outfit. Costume jewellery I do take off every time. Thankyoh for the layered necklace gem. Brilliant.
Hey beautiful, fellow small business cleaning Mama here. ☺️ I LOVE JEWERLY AND am a huge fan of the layered Look with bracelets, and adding my watch to the mix or even laying rings. This was super Helpful as per usual With all your videos. Gotta share the layering necklaces tip with my sister who often layers her Necklaces. Super fan here, you’ve helped me thru this journey of housekeeping… sending lots of love and light your way!!
Love the tips for untangling, and for layering necklaces - thanks! Yes, I am one of THOSE people - I take all my jewelry off at night. I take my ring(s) off every single time I apply any kind of lotion, I don't wear my jewelry when I clean, do dishes, bathe, etc. I don't wear it on the very rare occasions that I swim (pool, ocean etc. doesn't matter). I am kind of obsessive about it.
Great tips. I am one who takes off all my jewelry, partially to keep them cleaner and partly for fear of loosing them. Since you can clean rings with dishsoap and hot water maybe I’ll start leaving them on when I wash dishes!
Great tips, thank you! I just used the baking soda (bi-carb soda) and aluminium foil tip and my silver jewellery is spark a larkling now! It was so easy to do!
Thank you for this info again. The tip at the end is really helpful. (I just wear the same gold for months, sometimes years). A very good tip is to definitely check prongs on settings, if you're cleaning with cloths especially, also chain clasps as they do wear if removed often. The other tip I have (I trade in vintage silver Jewely and cutlery, some of it very valuable and is stored in a safe. Pop a few silica gel bags (the little ones you get in vitamin bottles) amongst your jewelry to keep moisture out. In my safe are a couple of big ones (also amongst the silver cutlery), you get the bigger ones in shoe boxes of shoes you buy eyc., you also get these packets in foodstuff like rusks etc to keep moisture out, I never discard them, I just add them to my lined cutlery drawer. Also, collectable cutlery with the porcelain at the tips, and pléase... the type of silver cutlery with bone handles should not be immersed and left is such hot water as it loosens that porcelain as glue is involved and the bone is destroyed (experience speaking!). I still add a few drops of Dawn to your first mixture, it degreases and makes the water 'softer', if that makes sense, I then rinse and polish. Everything I mentioned here is from learning the hard way, I hope it helps. Greetings from still your most loyal supporter in South Africa 🇿🇦🦋
Do U have any tips 4 cleaning Marcasite jewellery? I want to hold on to the pieces I have as nobody sells it anymore.. I love it, 💜 but clearly no-one else does.. even Etsy Ireland don't sell many pieces of it anymore..
@@Anamarie157 I inherited the most beautiful pieces from my mom as well, I clean them ónly with the lukewarm water with a toddler soft toothbrush, dipped in a drop of Johnson’s baby shampoo in circular motions. Lay a towel out, to the tops of items, then bottom in your hand, rinse and lay on the towel. DAB them dry with an old t-shirt and lay tem on the towel on a dry side. Use your hairdryer (not hot!) and air dry each piece while turning it in your hand, leaving no moisture. Store with silica gel packets in the bottom, away from your jewelry. I wear especially the broaches like now during winter on my silk scarves, and check the roll-clasps/pins before putting it away. I hope this helps. 🦋🇿🇦
I usually clean silver by applying bicarb and water and let it sit then wipe. Will try your method next time. My jewellery regime is take it all off, bar wedding ring, when I get home for the day, unless expecting visitors. I have an upright jewellery stand lined with black velvet with a damp rid sachet on the bottom shelf. This way, it doesn't require too much cleaning. The untangling hint is a gem, thank you.
My fail proof detangler is baby powder all over the knotted chain. I love using mild organic toothpaste for all my jewelry cleaning. Also for my wedding ring diamonds I soak in either clear windex over night or brushing vinegar water with toothbrush.
❤️😁👌🏻 I definitely remove my rings, necklaces and bracelets as soon as I come back home. Earrings are only remove before washing my hair. I’m in the kitchen a lot and I don’t like jewelry on my hands when dealing with food and washing dishes. Great video! 🌺
Great tips, I am definitely going to try the dish soap trick for a few rings that have hand lotion gunked in the grooves (yuck!). I can't stand having jewelry on when I'm at home - it all comes off the second I'm home from work or being out!
I’ve been using the silver cleaning tip for over 40 years! I always remove my jewelry when I wash my hands, apply lotion, shower etc. I have huggie earrings that I sleep in and it’s the only jewelry that I sleep in.
No I wear my go to jewelry in my flower bed , water skiing, & to the beach. I do, however, use jewelry bags small zip lock bags. Thanks for the updated version on cleaning your jewelry. ❤
Good Tips! I already do a few of them, but plan to try them all (yay for the layering technique!). I remove my jewelry when I bathe, swim, clean (rings) and wear gloves to clean. I also take my wedding set off at night because I apply a thick hand cream at bedtime. My platinum wedding set gets dull quickly if I get lotion on it.
Yep! It all comes off at night. Except my wedding band…I don’t know if that will ever come off, lol! I’m a side sleeper so I don’t like earring backs smooshing into my head. Love this video!!! Thanks!
This was so helpful! One question: any suggestions for cleaning pearls? I have a piece of silver/pearl jewelry that needs cleaning, but I’m worried that the process of cleaning the silver would be too hard on the pearls. Also curious about the best way to clean a pearl necklace that is strung on thread.
Check with a jeweler first before using my tip. But I was told by a jewelry store that Dawn dish soap is gentle enough if you dilute it well with water. I bought a pair of silver and pearl earrings at an auction and I wanted to clean them up. I'm not sure how that applies to pearls strung on a thread though.
Hi there, pearls should be stored in an air tight jewelry box if possible, and i clean mine by wiping them after use with soft cloth only. I also never wear them on the pool or showering bec of soap and shampoo chemicals especially if you have salt water pearls.
Gemmologist here... For pearls, after each wearing, remove them and wipe clean with slightly damp soft cloth gently. Then place the pearl necklace back in its original box when dry. They shd not be stored in a very dry environment with very low humidity cos the pearls will dry out eventually if you plan to pass it down as an heirloom, just normal humidity is fine. You can take it out from time to time to just wipe them with soft damp cloth to prevent drying out. If the strung pearl necklace gets wet, just lay it out to dry on a flat surface, not under direct sun of course, do not hang to dry it as it will stretch out the string. As for the silver clasp, you can get the polish cloth for silver (normally can get at jewellers), just polish the clasp only.
EXCELLENT TIPS! I went to HS in the mid late 80's and wore lots of gold chains that would need detangling OFTEN as I wore them! Wish I would've known this trick back then. I ain't even remember Google being around to help me for that matter! Lol
If it's real old original pearl's, start wearing them regularly and they need touching your skin. So you can wear it under your clothes, without anyone seeing them, if they don't look good. After awhile, they will "wake up" and being beautiful again. You can get them professionally rewired on a new string and make each pearl get a double knot, so if the string brakes, only one pearl will get lose.
I learned to clean my diamonds by using tin foil and ammonia. That also does the trick. Just don’t use it if there pearls or opals as part of the setting. I leave my jewelry on all the time!! Love the vids!!
Hello! I have som question unrelated to this video, but its something I would like to know. When to use different vacuum atachments? I only use the big one for the floors and I have no idea, when to use the other ones. Next question is if there's a difference between cleaning with sponges and cleaning with cloths. If so; when to use either of them? I consider myself a tidy person, but I've learnt so much from you, Thank you! :)
I, like you, keep my jewelry on for just about everything. I rarely ever take my rings and earrings off. My necklaces I have to get into the habit of not sleeping with them as I have broken several chains that way.
I rarely remove my wedding band (plain gold, I didn’t spend much since it wear it at work). My engagement ring is for special occasions so it only usually stays on for a few hours. If I wear earrings I take them out at the end of the day. I can’t be bothered with anything else
in Russia we use whitening toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean silver. it really helps when you are afraid to use boiling water-soda method on your gemstones
Where did you get the jewelry box? I’ve been looking for a good way to store my necklaces without them getting all tangled together. That box looks perfect!
Can you please do an add-on video about how to clean silver jewelry that has semi-precious stones? I enjoy collecting them because they are more affordable than precious stones set in gold/white-gold/platinum. Semi-precious stones are porous and jewelry cleaners recommend not to use them. Is baking soda safe for your aluminum (not tin) foil method. Stones I have: turquoise (very soft), gaspeite, labradorite, rhodocrosite, larimar, coral.
I unfortunately never take my jewelry off. I literally only change things up once every few years once it's on it stays on. I remove once in a while to clean but it goes right back on.
Thanks for jewellery tips! I always take my jewellery off at night, it is uncomfortable to wear earrings and necklaces when I sleep. I wash my pendants with water and l'occitane soap (I know posh) and then dry them throughly. The soap makes gems sparkle again.
have a friend put a dab of false eyelash glue on the back of your neck and hold the clasp on that dab till the glue dries (about 10 seconds), this will keep your necklace in place all day.
You can design jewelry, too! Brittany Vasseur is a full-time RU-vidr, mom of two small children, jewelry designer & company owner (Ember & Ivy), and skincare line developer & owner. And she's about to launch a bedding line.
I'm good, I remove my jewellery when ever I am going to do anything with my hands, do you have any advice or guidance for semi precious gems that need cleaning? Please.
"Hotdog size fingers" 😂 I wear the same jewelry 95% of the time so for the items I don't wear often, I store them in small craft baggies. The silver doesn't tarnish. It works great for keeping earrings pared up as well.
I am not a fan of the foiling method because it is wasteful, but I did do the soap method, and my earrings came out sparkly. Do you have a method on loosening wedding rings when you want to get them off, without waiting until your fingers are cold? Thank you for the tips.
Here's a tip I got from a Jeweler. I do it weekly and my rings are Brand New after each Bath!! I put about ⅓ of a coffee cup of Connoisseur's Liquid Dip Jewelry Cleaner, the one in the Red Packaging, in the microwave for about 40 seconds. Place it on the counter and THEN (Don't Microwave your Jewelry!!) Place my rings in it for 3-4 minutes. Brush all the sides with the little black brush that comes inculded in the container, engravings, stones, etchings and crevices, Including underneath the stones and then Rinse them under Very Hot tap water for a few seconds. Lay them flat on a Dish towel then fold the towel over each one, one at a time and Sticking my finger draped towel through the ring, I wrap the rest of the towel around it and in a gentle motion, squeeze slightly and it's dry. Place it in an open ring box over night JIC there's any left over moisture. There is No comparison between heating the solution and using it straight from the jar. I no longer bring them for a professional cleaning any longer, I don't have to! These look just as good or better!!!
