Thanks for clicking on QuickTech.
Sometimes airbrushes have problems. You might see bubbles in the color cup, a diminished spray pattern or maybe your airbrush won’t spray at all. Luckily most airbrush problems can be resolved with a thorough cleaning session. In this video you'll learn how to deep clean an airbrush so you can get back to spraying again.
You’ll see in the video that we soak the nozzle, nozzle cap and needle cap in Medea Airbrush Cleaner. This helps break up dried paint and makes it easier to scrub off. But please do not soak, immerse or “wet dock” your entire airbrush in any liquid. Ever. This can cause more problems than it solves.
Use caution when removing and reinserting your airbrush nozzle. We recommend using our Nozzle Wrench (available as part of the Iwata Airbrush Cleaning Kit and the Iwata Professional Maintenance Tools or sold separately as part CLNW1). If you are using the small spanner that was included with your airbrush or another tool, take extra care not to over-tighten as this can cause this delicate part to break.
Do you have an Eclipse CS? We made a video just for this airbrush since it has an unique compression fit nozzle. Check it out in our QuickTech Experience playlist.
Why QuickTech? There’s no shortage of how-tos and tutorials on the internet but airbrushers are still searching for solutions to common problems. That’s why Iwata created the QuickTech Experience. We’ve created videos that get right to the point so you can fix your problem and get back to painting. No intro to skip, no banter to mute, nothing to speed through. Just the content you came for from the most trusted name in airbrush. Be sure to subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss the next QuickTech release!
***
Before disconnecting your airbrush from the air hose:
1. Make sure your compressor is off.
2. Then hold down the main lever to release any stored air.

** UPDATE **
Iwata Airbrush Cleaning Kit now includes Medea Thread Sealer. Use this to remedy and prevent bubbles in the cup and other issues causes by poor metal to metal connection.

really annoys my OCD that he wiped the paint of cap and then used same paper , even same part of paper then to wipe the bowl he had just cleaned ... Apart from that great, showed clearly cleaning procedure.

The lack of sound does throw some people off. The videos are intentionally visually focused so they are accessible and understandable to all language speakers. Maybe we will add some background music

What about when paint dries around the needle bearing/packing screw and you can't remove needle, your instructions say never soak it.

Awesome. Thank you for posting this video and thank you for getting straight to it. I’m really enjoying my Iwata Neo CN. Replaced the needle and nozzle today and I’m about to fire it up and get some painting done.

Is it recommended to clean like this after you're 'done' airbrushing for the day? Or only if you're having problems and only so often?
@iwatamedea1
@iwatamedea1 3 года назад
The Deep Clean is recommended every so often or if you are having problems. We have an End of Spray Session video in our QuickTech Experience playlist for end of the day cleaning!

You should remove the needle towards the front of the airbrush rather than the rear. The leftover paint on the needle accumulates at the rear when you remove the needle backwards and paint accumulates in that area after some time.
@iwatamedea1
@iwatamedea1 3 года назад
We do not advise removing the needle through the front end of your brush for a couple reasons. The potential to cause self-harm, damage parts of your brush such as the tip of the needle or nozzle, in the process of removal are more present. Additionally, extracting the nozzle from your brush before the needle may lead to accidental damage to the tip. Should this occur, it may lead to further damage extending to the nozzle when your brush is reassembled. Should you have concerns for paint following the needle during suggested removal, you can apply a very light coat of Iwata Lube to the needle before reassembly. This will create a barrier between the paint and needle, allowing your desired cleaner to remove paint more efficiently without adhering to needle. Any excess paint that may reside on the needle will be swept off by the packing screw and kept from traveling into the rear assembly of your brush. Hope this helps clarify the steps seen in the video!

Well that told you...
@ShorrockPaul
@ShorrockPaul 7 месяцев назад
@@mastodonseven i dont understand the people that say paint accumulates in that area if you pull the needle backwards. that O ring on packing needle is there to stop the paint in the bowl from entering the rear of body and trigger area, when you fill the bowl paint flows up body to the O ring and stops there, so how does pullng the needle back accumulate paint there when there is already paint there ? in fact people who use the blow back method i think are more likely to damage the seal, it is designed to stop paint under gravity pressure (atmospheric) not repeated pressurized paint forcing against it...
@mastodonseven
@mastodonseven 7 месяцев назад
@ShorrockPaul People hear things and repeat it without having experienced it themselves. I think generally a gasket won't last forever and is a serviceable item

Pull the needle out the back? Gross.
@heruhcanedean
@heruhcanedean 2 года назад
I'm just starting to get into airbrushing, I bought an iwata to not have to fight learning with a harbor freight special. Why is pulling the needle out of the back bad or "gross"? I heard taking it out the front damages the nozzle. Also why would the manufacture of the product not show the proper way to clean the equipment they produce?
@jamesdavid7782
@jamesdavid7782 2 года назад
@@heruhcanedean I don't see how taking a needle out the front damages it unless YOU damage the needle, you know? Pulling it out the back tracks gunk through parts of the gun you wouldn't have to clean in the first place. There's really no good reason to pull out the back if you have the option to pull it out the front. Of course, you can't be careless with it, but you can't be careless with the needle regardless of the direction.
@heruhcanedean
@heruhcanedean 2 года назад
@@jamesdavid7782 I heard the nozzle gets damaged when pulling the needle from the front. I'm not too worried about the needle. I'm pretty sure I can polish the needle back if I damage it slightly, bending it would be bad but I assume that takes some effort.
