I use organic refined coconut oil after use. I cook with olive oil or canola oil.

Ages ago I was a cook at a restaurant that used a flat grill mostly for breakfast & lunches. We would clean it while it was still hot with water, vinegar and a pumice brick? Then lightly oiled. I forget what the brick was made of but it was made for flat grills to restaurants. Each time it made the grill sparkling clean. Not sure if one would use this method for these griddles though. I just bought a griddle & I think I'll treat mine like my cast iron pans & skillets. Just hot water & a dull plastic scraper, dry, then light oil coating.

I use flaxseed oil! And I use water and some lemon in there! With a scraper and get all the food off and gunk off then with a rag clean it up then add the flaxseed oil when it’s done

Do mine the same way, I put the oil on, but I heat the top back up until the oil begins lightly smoking. Then turn off heat. after it cool I take a cloth and wipe down just in case there's excess oil. over time it will make your top sticky

Great video. I do the same thing you do. I have a Camp Chef FTG600 and as soon as I am finished with the cook I just use a wide scraper (aka drywall mud knife) and scrape it down. Then I add a touch of oil and wipe down. Iget the cover on it as soon as it cools down and it stays nice and seasoned and ready to go.
@JPBBQ

Right on. Appreciate the comment. Same here once it cools down put the cover on it

Thanks for the Video tips on cleaning, I'm new to the Griddle scene, I also have a Camp Chef FTG 600 that I purchased late November of last year. Didn't have much of a chance to really use it with Winter here in New England. I keep it in my garage and roll it out ready for use. We did have a few warm days where I was able to cook burgers and bacon for the toppings as well as some griddle fries that came out amazing. But my favorite cook seeing that I'm Italian was my homemade meatballs, I was able to cook 4 dozen on the flattop in no time. I'm really loving this and can't wait to explore other food cooks on the griddle. Happy Cooking and thanks again for the cleaning tips.

@wkd253 same here in Mass. I just bought the Camp Chef FTG600 this spring and wondering about winter usage. I've had grills forever and grill throughout winter without too much problem, even in heavy winds and snow/ice. I'm wondering about a flat top since it doesn't have a wind cover or anything, how it'll hold up to New England winter cooking? Perhaps I could move it to my garage but I don't want to have much food mess there but if I have to do it then I'll do it. Maybe place griddle on top of flattened cardboard boxes and just recycle them in spring when I move griddle back outside again? Not sure. How about u?
@JPBBQ
@JPBBQ 5 лет назад
Rob Mitchell i don’t usually move my griddle. It is the camp chef explorer and i built it into my outdoor cooking island. If i am gonna use it on around the garage area i would definitely put something under it so not to stain the concrete with grease spillage. Appreciate your comment and thanks for watching

I live in humid Pennsylvania…I’m new at this…after seasoning is it necessary to bring my cast iron griddle into the house or can I keep it on my camp stove outside with the protective cover on it? Might sound stupid but I Wasn’t sure if protecting it from humidity and direct sunlight and all that would affect it…
@JPBBQ

Great question Jason, I keep mine on the camp chef stove outside under its protective cover. It gets pretty humid here in Florida too and mine seems to keep ok. I do keep get seasoned after each use too. Thanks again

Should the grill be warm when you season it with the oil?
@JPBBQ
@JPBBQ 5 лет назад
Hey there Josh. Absolutely. Once the grill is nice and hot, turn it off and put a thin layer of your favorite cooking oil. And let it set in by rubbing it it with a terry cloth towel and some tongs. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Is this a cast iron griddle? If so, does it hurt it to clean with the metal scraper? I was told to use a plastic scraper but they don’t hold up to that hot water
@JPBBQ
@JPBBQ 4 года назад
Hey there Jack, appreciate you watching and commenting. The large griddle is made of steel. I do have a smaller one that fits over one burner that is cast iron. However I use a metal scraper for both and it does just fine. I would not use plastic scraper. The last thing you want is melted plastic on the surface of where you cook. Hope that helps and thanks again.

Noticed you used a rag at the end there. Clearly for cleaning a cast iron, or carbon steal surface rags are always superior to paper towels. However, how do you clean your rags? Do you just toss a oil soaked rag in the washing machine? Is the wife or GF okay with that?
@JPBBQ
@JPBBQ 5 лет назад
Hey there Micah, appreciate you watching and commenting on my video. All my oiled rags i leave soaking in a bucket of water and vinegar, usually 1 cup to a gallon of water overnight. I do wash them all by themselves with hot water and soap/bleach and dry all by themselves too. I usually get three to four cycles out of my rags. After that the oil is too imbedded and wont get cleaned enough to show on video. They are cleaned but the stains just wont wash out and i use them for cleaning other things. Good question, rags cost money got to stretch them as far as they can go. Thanks again. Oh, wife is totally cool with how i wash them. Lol

Scrape it real good when dry. Put on medium heat for 10 minutes. A couple cups of lemon juice mixed with water 50/50 on it, scrape again. Turn off heat let sit for a minute or two, then pour about 4 cups of the lemon water mix and scrape again. Then scrub with a rough steel wool and spray "easy off" on it. Let sit for 20-30 min and wipe off with a wet towel. Then heat to medium high, let fully heat up and pour flax oil and spread out with paper towels. Turn off heat and spread some olive oil on it.
