We use the deep litter method for our bedding. We clean it out twice a year and today is the day!
We are Rob and Deb and we live in northeastern Alabama in a smaller town called Southside. We moved here from Michigan a few years ago and have found home.
What sets us apart? We are in our late 50's and we have found out what we want to do when we grow up! Finally, after all these years, we are going back to our roots and wanting to take you with us! It doesn't matter your age, dream again! Our dream is to have a place in the country where we can have more chickens, come cows, pigs and who knows what else! We want to share this with our family and friends. We want to establish a community of like minded people to join us.
Becoming more sustainable and getting back to what has been lost over the years is what we are striving to revive. When we were younger children, we have memories growing up and helping in the garden and then storing that food to last us through the winter. When we married, we continued that tradition. Somewhere along the way, we lost that. Now we are pushing to get that back. Many days were spent preparing food and preserving it. We plan to incorporate many methods of preserving as the years go by such as: canning, fermenting, dehydrating & root cellar storage.
