I bought a Studio 360K from a neighbor for a song (ok I paid $50 lol) and your videos have been just a Godsend. Thank you so very, very much. This is awesome! Blessings xoxox

So happy to hear that one or maybe more of my videos were helpful to you. I know that many others have found answers to their questions on RU-vid. Isn't it nice when we can get a bargain on something? I know I love it when I get it for a song and dance or very inexpensive. But also sometimes we need help with cleaning up the different machines. It took that SK840 I had, got it in pieces but was happy to get the service manual with it. Cleaned it up, husband took care of any rust and painted it (more the inside parts) and got it all back to sort of new and it worked. That is the good thing with the singer type machines, they are easier to work on than the brother machines, at least in my opinion. Berda

Hi Roberta, I just rec'd a Brother KH-800. It needs a new sponge bar, and I see rust on some of the needles, so I want to thank you for these cleaning videos as this 800 needs a deep clean/oil before use.

Your very welcome. I know that we have to do these things. There was a time when we had to bring or mail them out to get fixed but then it can get costly. We find different machines at a bargain but with some Tender Loving Care and some elbow grease, we can get ourselves a working machine. Berda

If one is unsure of something, sure that you can find videos even if not mine on how to do so. This is the way I was told to do it but do prefer Denatured Alcohol.

Your knitting machine will perform a lifetime. How often do you clean your machine?

Most times I will clean a new to me machine as they come to me dirty or not usable. But then I do get some that work right out of the box. But for any machine I do keep, I will do a deep clean maybe every 5 or 7 years as needed but most times I will after each project just vacuum up any lint that accumulates on it or the carriage and also take the air compressor to the carriage underside. What products do you use for deep cleaning. Do you have a deep cleaning demo?

I do have a 4 part video on Dismantling and Reassembling the SK326, hubby took care of any rust and repainting the inside of the covers and brackets while I in turn did take, but not sure I have in the video, of the Denatured Alcohol and wiped down the top of the bed when that part was out of the case. In the case of a Brother machine I had with the top middle button not able to be pressed in by itself, I was told to take WD40 and spray between the 2 buttons. But you can also get the same effect of loosening up any congealed grease with a hair dryer. But then after that, keep pressing in that top center button so that it will not get stuck again. Those machines are famous for that when not used much. Then of course you did see how I clean my needles, I have used Denatured Alcohol as well as Mineral Spirits. I like the DA as it dissipates when taken out of the jars. Now the plastic bed machines, I take all metal off them and then soak the plastic in hot soapy water, even taking a brush to the needle grooves. Then rinse them with hot water also and if the right time of the year, put outside in the sun to dry up all the water. If i do it in the winter time, I will take a hair dryer to them before putting the needles back in and any other metal parts. Berda

Your welcome, sorry for delay, google did something to where I wasn't getting notified of things I needed to attend to, or maybe someone hacked my account. Berda

Hello Roberta. I am in the process of cleaning my machine and I am at the part where I am needing to take off the metal bar, but I am having trouble with finding the right socket size for my screwdriver. I tried a 1/8, but to no avail. Could you please let me know what size you used in your video? Thank you in advance

Gee I am not sure what size I used. if it is not standard or imperial measurements, then it has to be a metric one. I have this little box that goes with my electric screwdriver that has both standard and metric sockets. Oh and I also have different sizes of the Phillips and flat head screwdrivers as well as the hex wrenches that goes with that tool. Not all of those tools will carry all of them but if you can find a small set with different size accessories, that may be the best way to go instead of bringing it to a store to find out. Oh if this is a bolt, you can use some adjustable wrench to get one off and then go to your local hardware store and find out the size you need. If a screw, that may be harder to do but I sure hope you can get it off and finish cleaning up your machine. Berda

Sometimes I can get here fast where other times it could be a day or more. But I sure hope you get what you need and finish cleaning up that machine. Have a good one, Berda

I am not sure but believe it was a metric size. I do recall that I had to use the 7mm more than other sizes but if you have any metric sockets, try them. I no longer have this machine so cannot tell you for sure. Berda

A dealer recommended mineral spirits too, but you can't buy it or paint thinner in California! ;(

Here is another thought, can you get a high concentrate alcohol? I think the most I have seen is 90% but if there is one more than that, it will also do the job. But even with that, one needs to lubricate the metal parts as that little water can still be left behind. Why I tend to do mine outside so the sun can dry up any water that I used. I do prefer the Denatured Alcohol as less water in that compared to Mineral Spirits. Hope you can get what you need to clean up your machine or needles. Later Berda
