Cleaning Landscape Gravel or Stone 

I was thinking about doing something similar, but your idea is way better. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s what I use for my gravel. Mesh hardware cloth, tarp under to catch debris and dirt. Throw a shovel of gravel on hardware cloth, shake it out. Then throw the gravel into a storage container. Once my storage container is full, I use a Home Depot bucket that I pierced holes at the bottom to act a filter. I then throw 2 handfuls of gravel into the bucket and rinse them out with water. Then I throw them into a clean container. Takes a bit more time, but def worth it. I like to keep it as minimal as possible.

So smart! Lots of work but wow. Great results.

This is screening the gravel, not washing it. There is still going to be a fine layer of silt/dirt on the gravel. For our project, we need to make sure it is washed. Over time weeds will root in the thinnest layer of dirt.

Try using a tarp under the screen, it would work better than a wheelbarrow. At least it does for me.😊

Oh, boy…I’m still to see someone coming with an idea what doesn’t break your back. This is not cleaning, just removing debris. I mean, when you have a big area to clean this doesn’t look interesting at all. Is there a product that you spray in and removes dirt and stains? I just saw a lady saying “soak it with soap and brush it”…seriously, it is depressing.
