In today's video we discuss cleaning and maintaining the drain holes on your SV650. This is a commonly overlooked maintenance service that should be done regularly to prevent moisture build up in your front spark plug tube. When moisture builds up in the tube and has nowhere to drain. It causes the spark plug to corrode and causes the front spark plug to eventually cut out leading to the dreaded "SV325". Which means your SV is running on one cylinder. This is a very simple process and should be done regularly to prevent the moisture build up. If you enjoyed and learned something from this video. Please hit that SUBSCRIBE and Like button and stay tuned for future SV related content!

@ghaazymadlion795 try changing the plugs. If it was anything like what mine did. All I did was change the plugs, and it was running like it it did before the rain. If the plugs don't work, try the coil pack or plug wires. Hope that helps.

If you have a case of sv325 on the road, borrow a can of WD40 and stick the straw into the drain hole. Spray well. Most water will be displaced by the WD40 and it'll get you home, where you can give it a proper clean and dry.

Why only do it while changing oil?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT Год назад
When I said do it every oil change I meant to add it on as a maintenance while you’re changing your oil. Like when you change your oil, go ahead and check your drain holes and clean them at that time if needed. It’s just something that you can add to your maintenance list. Usually when I change the oil on my bike I inspect my drain holes, inspect/clean/lube my chain, check tires for uneven wear, inspect air filter (every other oil change), etc… hope this clarifies that.

Does the Gladius has the same problem with the moisture?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
To be honest with you. I’ve never had a Gladius in my shop. However. The engine on the Gladius is almost identical to the one from the SV650. The Gladius does have the later style dual spark plug design engine. Which does have a drain hole behind the secondary spark plug. If your bike runs into the issue where the main front plug gets moisture on it. Your secondary spark plug will act as your main and will still allow your bike to run just as smoothly. I still recommend cleaning your drain holes to avoid that issue. I made a video that shows the differences on both the single plug design and dual plug design. Give it a watch! Link below 🙂👍🏼 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N_M-2FnIZFI.html
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
But overall. Yes. The Gladius is prone to getting moisture in the front spark plug but is not likely to run bad immediately due to having the later dual plug design. Hope this helps!

@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
It’s not as common to hear about this on the SV1000. However, they are still prone to this issue because the engine is mounted the same way. It’s been a while since I’ve had my hands on an SV1000 engine but I believe the drain holes are on opposite sides of the cylinder head compared to the SV650 engine. Make sure you clean the drain holes so you don’t have to worry about this issue. 🙂👍🏼

Great advice thanks! Odd that given you have multiple engines, and are at such a skill level, that you don’t have an air compressor?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
What is odd about that? I use electric impact tools so I have rarely needed a compressor. The only time in the past year that I’ve actually needed a compressor was to blow out the transmission cooler lines on my truck when I replaced my transmission and I borrowed one from the shop next door to mine.
@RichardT2112
@RichardT2112 2 года назад
@@PASSIONBUILT Odd only as it is one of the most useful tools I own … from inflating tires, cleaning and blowing (obviously) to a huge amount of tools and even acting as a great liquid vacuum system for purging brake lines - not to mention painting etc. Other than my socket/wrenches, likely the most valuable resource in my home shop. Given the low cost of one as well (around $200ish) good bang for one’s buck. So yes, I would qualify that (given how useful it is) as odd. Personal choice of course, but I’d argue that it is akin to a professional automotive shop not owning a hoist.
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 года назад
Yeah I honestly just have never really needed one. I would like one but I don’t want to cheap out on a compressor though. I’ve had a couple of cheap electric pancake compressors in the past and they died out really quick. I just want to save up a bit and get one that’s a buy once, cry once type of deals lol Side note - I don’t have a compressor. But I do have a hoist that has gotten more use than a compressor probably would in my shop 😅😅 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ELXidN7Q-_Q.html

Hey there. I mentioned in the video that there are 2 drain holes. One on the front cylinder head and one on the rear. Since you have a 2008 model. You have the dual spark plug design. The drain holes are located behind the secondary spark plugs. The rear one is a challenge to get to. I’d recommend doing a spark plug replacement service while you’re cleaning your drain holes since the rear plug will need to be removed for the drain hole cleaning.
