Cleaning My Jet 1642 Lathe Ways with a Rust Remover 

Just some thoughts about cleaning. Acetone dissolves CA glue. For a very light surface rust like you had there, going over the whole thing with steel wool would have been a good first step, followed by a very light coat of machine oil, or even WD40. The Naval Jelly may have been overkill.

Use steel wool to remove rust, and then scotch bright to give it the shine.

50/50 muriatic pool acid ....or metal prep. from a automotive paint store..gloves,glasses and shield . apply with acid brush . let sit and watch it eat away a minute or so, scrub with ss tooth brush or ss wool it and wash with water and or or wipe off apply two parts atf oil and one part acetone. Then wipe with clean rag and cover with vaseline. Will look like new metal !

Naval Jelly is a Phosphoric Acid compound. WEAR GLOVES when using this stuff.

There's a product called Glidecote that works much better than wax on the ways.

Been using navel jelly for over 25 years now. Good stuff
