Cleaning Out Our Abandoned House - Everything Was Left Behind 

I think people often forget that when you’re following a person who is sharing a decent portion of their life, you’re not entitled to know everything about them, nor do you need to to enjoy their content. Like after seeing last video that you two bought a house together, I was curious too and thought maybe I missed a life update, but once I realized there was nothing shared about it, I just shrugged and said well that’s none of my business. If it’s two friends buying a house together, that’s great. If it’s more than that, also great. The house content is the same either way lol

Being next to a lake and a forest, an affordable quaint older home with a brick exterior, adequate outdoor space…..I see why you said yes to that property. It makes me want to move to Germany myself. It’s beautiful there! Watching you go through the former owner’s lifetime of treasures is both sad and exciting. There is so much! It’s like taking a walk through the past. Very cool.

That "Blacksmith Tool" that you were holding in your right hand at about the 7:30 mark in the video, is a tool used for pulling out nails, so you might find in comes in use during your renovations. They are called "Pincers" and although I am only a DIYer I have a few pairs exactly the same as the ones you were holding and I've used them several times on reno's around my house..

You've been doing wonderfully, but about your dust mask: Pinch the metal band over the bridge of your nose, or dust will get into your lungs. I'm very happy for you and Elli being together. She is such a sweet girl and meant for you. Love and best wishes to you both, Wendi 🌻🌻🌻

I lived in Germany as a young child from 1970 -1975. I had such a wonderful experience I often feel more like a German than an American. I love both countries very much, but I would move to Germany in a heartbeat! So excited for your adventure!

7:40 The black pincers are the best nail removal tool you could ever own: grab the nail where it comes out of the wood and roll the pincers over the curved bits; lifts the nail out with little to no damage to the wood. Not a blacksmith’s tool.

Would luv a cost break down. On how much different prices r in Germany versus the USA. Everything from building supply to groceries to basic house hold electric, heating, water etc.

Sorry you lost a bunch of footage . When I was a kid , that's how us kids would make money going around and finding glass soda bottles . 5 cents each for a small soda bottle and 10 cents for the 32 oz. Bottles . Very little plastic back then . Glad to see you wanting to hold onto someone else's years of memories. Hats off to y'all for doing that.

How exciting to be living in another country. I love Germany. I went there almost 30 years ago I loved it. You will be getting the hang of the language in no time. I really got a kick out of watching you clean out the tool shed. My grandpa was born in the U.S. to 2 emigrant parents from Germany. His wood workshop reminded me of your tool shed. He reused everything, saved everything, repurposed everything. It was fun seeing those little treasures that you found. I am looking forward to seeing what you two do with your renovations.

Hi Maddie and Ellie, Congratulations on your new home! This is so exciting! It's so fun looking at the work you did each day at the end of the day. I highly recommend a shop vac! You'll use it forever. No more stirring up dust and mold. Great for Spiders too. I have never seen anyone save a spider. Good for you! Ok, maybe I have saved a spider but mostly I save Bees. I've saved a Duck and a bat before also.

The tools you held up are for shoeing a horse. They allow you to pull out the nails. Keep the tools around, you never know when you will that unique tool. I use my grandfathers one llike in your left hand to pull nails on drywall. It worked perfectly and did not mar the drywall board.

I like this change and the house you two bought. It is reassuring to know that Ellie has relatives who are guiding you in your quest! I am guilty as charged: a couple of time I said, out loud, ‘no don’t toss that! You’ll it later on’. However, you guys will learn and grow as you go, so, it’s better left unsaid. Sell those unwanted or unneeded tools! Some people collect old items for parts or just to display. Being in Germany for one month now is there anything that surprised you the most about Germany? Carry on and enjoy the adventure. If you get to do any hiking or sightseeing, include some of that in your videos!

The one thing I’ve always told my kids (who will be 26 & 30 this yr) is “there’s a big world out there and the saddest thing you could ever do would be to NOT see that! To stay in the town you grew up in and never see the world and experience something new and different” But isn’t that why most people are sitting on their couch’s watching RU-vid content, bc that’s scary and hard and unknown which means UNCOMFORTABLE and the really unhappy ones spew negativity and their pain onto everyone else! But we really aren’t living until we get uncomfortable!!!! Maybe it’s bc I wish I would have traveled before becoming a parent, I have a gypsy soul but now is my time! I can somewhat relate to the experience of moving into an old home that was lived in for many years and where so many things were left behind due to the owner's passing and there being no heirs. Years ago when I lived in Seattle I was helping some friends clear out an old house they'd just purchased in order to renovate and flip it, back when flipping homes was a really big thing, before the real estate crash of 2008-9. The previous owner, an old man who lived alone, had recently passed away and didn't appear to have any heirs either, so the house was filled with lots of stuff. The basement was filled with food that the previous owner had canned himself, in mason jars. It felt so sad to know that I was helping to clear out a house that someone had lived in for years, of all their personal items, and I wondered what he was life and what kind of life he lived. But, these things happen all the time and there's nothing to do about it but just clear things out, save, sell or donate what's salvageable, and move on. We all leave a mark upon this world but life goes on. I think that the best way to honor those who have passed on is by keeping their legacy alive in all the ways that matter but to also live our own lives to the fullest, because that will be us too someday. Omnes una manet nox. And on that cheerful note, best of luck making this into your dream home. Great back yard by the way.
