In this video, Alan explains how we clean and sanitize the bulk tank after the milk truck comes. Keeping the equipment clean is super important for health and safety reasons. Joshua pops in this episode too now that it's getting warmer outside. Jennifer shares how important it is to remember farm safety rules around the milk house chemicals; a lesson she learned the hard way!

You need to put a switch on that wash pump plug.Keeps the plug and the cord from burning off over time.

You could hook it up to a breaker box and flip the breaker like a switch, works good our air compressor is hooked up that way.

One of our barn cats liked to come in the milk house through the hose port during the night. I guess he liked the milk house because it is warm. I had to stop that habit by stuffing a bag in it, and removed it before the milk truck came. We have had other wildlife that did that too. We milk around 60 cows in north eastern Maryland. I get tired of people telling me that there is no hope for us smaller dairy producers. Thank you for taking time to post your videos, I enjoy them. By the way, we have a New Idea UNI too, we have a 6200 chopper and a 737 husker for it. The tractor is a 707.

There's a lot of loud people saying the small farmers don't stand a chance, but I say we are way too stubborn to quit!

Acid washed jeans sell for a premium! Cut up the knees a little and wala you are a fashion designer!! In 84 we went from a sunset flattop to a new 600 gallon Mueller. That had the digital control panel that ran cooling and washing. You just end up with a new set of problems to solve.

Seeing your son in the milk hose door reminded of when I drove bulk milk truck in southern Wisconsin in the late 60's. On a Sunday morning the farmer was at church and their driveway and parking spot for the milk truck was too iced over but I didn't know it was too slippery. I backed up to the milk house got out opened the rear doors plugged in the electric cord got the dipper for the milk sample and the baggie stuffed the hose in the door got into the milk house measured the milk turned on the agitator wrote out the receipt as I reached for the hose it was gone and I looked out the window and the truck was 20 yards down the drive way. I had to put the plug back on the cord, pump the milk and rinse the flat top tank and on to the next stop of the 26 farms to be picked up that day. I had the owner of the milk trucks call the farmer to put some sand down so the truck would stay put.

That's kind of the line we walk with the channel. We started it to educate non farm people, but we have a lot of farmers watching, so to them washing bulk tank might not be the most interesting to them. But we try to keep it fun, the kids definitely help with that!

That soap or acid is as hard on clothes as battery acid. Plenty of cleaning required in dairy, at least no more shoveling trench and in a couple months, no more frost to freeze the line to the pit!

Objective out of the box observer. You could spend upwards of $200 for a washing machine timer. If yours broke would you do all the laundry by hand? 3 or 400 $ for the parts to fix your automatic tank cleaner seems a small price to pay to alleviate some of the burden you face. I admit I don't have all the facts but this situation certainly looks like smarter not harder is the way. Great videos great content!
@trinitydairy

This still washes the tank automatically, I just have to add the soap and water, doing laundry by hand would be a lot more work! Thanks for watching.

Could you do a report card from the dairy on ssc protein fat
@trinitydairy

We are hoping to go more into that once the grass comes in and the cows are grazing more. Right now our scc spiked because we have 2 fresh cows in the tank so it went from 89,000 to 180,000. That should go back down once their swelling goes down. Right now our bf is at 4.55% and protein is 3.4%
