Cleaning the Heads on an Alesis Blackface ADAT, Error 7

Here is a look at how I clean the heads on my Alesis Blackface ADAT machine, which did not cure my error 7 problem, but I evidently from this video, there are some bigger problems with my machine, of which I will deal with in a later video. The motors do not seem to be working well. These machine are extremely finicky, as you might well imagine, and are not really suitable for modern day recording. Worn out parts, mechanical rollers, pully's, and belts that are worn, stretched, and out of alignment...the list goes on. It takes a lot of work to have one of these units working perfectly in a studio. I would not recommend using these to record on.

My Blackface had this exact same behavior, changing the rubber ring on the idler wheel fixed it completely. Simple and cheap, worth a try if you're still looking to fix this.

Really eh ? Okay, yeah I still have this unit and I would really like to experiment with it and get it going, so I really appreciate your advice, when I get some time I will try this and see if it works, thanks for the tip !

@@raulconve6841 At a hardware store, it's the same ring as used in plumbing for pipes. You just have to bring the old one along so you get the right size.

the right roller guide is misaligned, if you turn it less than a quarter CCW, that may help to fix the error 7

@@UOttawaScotty For a moment I thought it was the pinch roller, because by touching it and applying little pressure against it, the error 7 was removed, I removed it and turned it, but it did not help, so I remembered the problems in VHS if the rollers are misaligned they cause rain on the image, I adjust that roller to be the closest and voila! that eliminated the problem of mine. good luck

@@maxwelldegregorio5126 the part I am referring to is a white roller, located near the heads, it has a slot to adjust it with a screwdriver, move it a little from one side to the other, the problem is that I could not tell you if the adjustment is to one side or to another, but I definitely think it's clockwise, that was my problem, It is not about adjusting contact, it is about adjusting the elevation of the tape

Nofo means that section of tape is not formatted. You are getting error 7 because the tape is bad i can help ya get that shit working like new

Could be bad tape too one of my nos tapes has a section around 5 minutes in where it won't hold time format even with reformat... im sure you checked this... I'm new to adat, but it's an idea for others with similar problems

The adat is more reliable that the fostex i got a Fostex 1624 mk2 and the display stopped working i opened it up checked power supply replaced capacitors and still no luck found burnt out ferrite bead on the tiny pcb thats out putting the VGA connector. Doing diagnostics with all the boards and the thing runs on firmware that has gone from the chips. So it's bricked those fostex where over engineered

I grabbed an adat xt yesteryear with one hour of use (probably reset somehow =/ ) and went turu the same: no good tc, er7, sometimes e9 (weak rewind), couldnt adjust the pulse generator (PG) delay since its number has been ripped off... E7 could be head pre failure or further electromechanical bug. I took mine to a vcr tech, dunno if you tried yet. If you manage to get "video" signal plugging into a tv that's good sign. Anyways, good luck with your 90's project! I'm kinda aiming for that here in Brazil, too.

Ah man, that's a huge bummer, I have not gotten mine working yet, haven't spent too much time on it, but I'll take another crack at it on a rainy day.

for error 7 the right roller guide is misaligned, if you turn it less than a quarter turn CCW, fix the error 7 problem, for error 9 , clean the switch under the mechanism, it would be good to clean all and the rubber parts, rollers etc.

hi i have alot of working adat i have fixed over the years you hot to use the right paper once cleaned find the bad tape this is why code 7 is coming up work ok in a vhs audio master i moved all the tapes that do not work in the adat's recorder some times the tape are made bad i had this time to time keep recording the old lady's will last along time
