Thank you for the reminder - As a woman of faith: I need to be a good steward of my home! I have fallen off and will get back on track for 2024 (i.e., getting back to my cleaning regimen). I honestly had to address the deeper psychology reasons; for me it was anger and resentment which I will not go into here but thank you for your transparency which provided a confirmation for me returning to making myself a priority and taking care of my apartment (co-op) in NY (which I own) and a peaceful home environment! Again thank you. I will get my place in order! Grace and peace to you! I am determined!

Almost 2 years ago I’m sold my 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom home (kids are grown and I’m divorced) and downsized to my 17 foot RV trailer. I’m on my parents property and I’m there to help my mom care for my dad (he has Parkinson’s with lewy body dementia) and help take care of their place. I downsized a lot and kept enough stuff to furnish a small apartment if I decided I needed something bigger. My stuff is stored in one of my dads garages, but it’s not much at all! I love my minimal lifestyle and it’s allowing me to be there for my family.

Senior with a husband and 17 year old grandson and his cat in a 3 bedroom two bath single level home. We have 20 acres of woods so if I keep my house clean, I get to go outside and play. Except right now, it’s been below zero the last few mornings. Carla, you always inspire me to keep decluttering. And last year I helped a friend declutter her whole house. "Now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." -John Steinbeck- I'm in 1 bed flat (apartment) in Scotland. Its getting decluttered and decorated this year. Already got the flooring down that was laying in its packets for nearly 3 years as an ornament on the floor at the end of the couch. One job at a time, whether its the dishes or clearing a cupboard at a time. Your videos have really helped motivate me to finally sort this mess out. Some days all I can do is just make the bed, and that's ok. Today I pulled out the oven and cleaned behind it. Little and often, without beating myself up.

I lived for almost 30 years with my ex husband who hated to get rid of stuff. Needless to say I’ve been decluttering since we split, started big time in 2020 when I retired. Just put "it" away or where it belongs.. and do dishes after each meal, and you're good to go! Having said that, everyone deserves a staycation and just decompress. Hi Carla 🤗 Lovely to watch another real and relatable video from you 💗 I live in alone in a one bathroom, one bedroom rental house that’s about 764 square feet, located in a small village in the Netherlands. It also has a small front and back garden with a little shed. Officially it’s a senior home, so most people sleep in the bedroom that’s one the first floor. But the house does have a big attic with low vaulted ceilings, divided into two spaces. I sleep in the big one and store things in the smaller one. This way, the official bedroom can be used for many things, among others for guests and drying my laundry. I have been decluttering for years and i am passionate about it because every time i let things go i learn something new about myself and i feel more liberated. I can feel it in my body when something in my house feels right or it feels off. But it is a process and the hardest part for me is regular and sentimental paper, so i am trying to reduce that more and more, because it feels so chaotic and heavy. I could talk for hours about this but I won’t haha. This already is a long post 😅 Thank you for sharing!! Love, Nora

Don’t become a homeowner unless you can afford it when you have a major bill like hot waters heater, a/c heating unit, fridge, roof, pests, plumbing, appliances, yard work etc etc etc. I am 73 and I LOVE being a tenant. owning a house is so stupid expensive. The mortgage and insurance is the cheap part, the expense comes when the washer fails and the kitchen rains, or when the storm took out the fence, the roof and the furnace died all at the same time. Or when all of the glass in the house failed at the same time. I can go on and on.

This channel has helped me accept that cleaning is part of living in any space. It is ongoing but I don't have to feel anxious about it. Both of my parents were super clean and I associate it with stress and home as a place to maintain but not to relax in. I have truly adjusted my perspective and if things get a little messy, I can put them back in order and reset. I love that you show the real stuff and that you live in a real apartment. Moved about two years ago from an apartment to a house. 3 bed, 2 ba in the Carolina's. One room serves as an office space. Miss certain things about the apartment but enjoy the space of the house. I also love that you have an international following because space is a consideration no matter where you live and it varies depending on city, country, etc.❤️

Two adults and four dogs in a three bedroom/three bath house, but I spent a decade living in an old 700 sf apartment in OC with my son, a cat, and eventually a dog. I still lovingly refer to the apartment as ‘the hovel’. We were happy there, but it is kinda tough in a tiny space with an active kid and all the toys everywhere. Friday night after work was my mandatory cleaning night. I wanted to be able to wake up on Saturday morning to a clean home. Many years after we moved away, I was in the neighborhood and stopped by and knocked on the door. I had a nice convo with the lady living there, also with a young son.

We own a 2 story townhouse, 2 bed 1 bath. Absolutely not ideal for our family of four with two dogs, but it helps us live below our means! We're room sharing with our toddler so that our teen gets her own room. The teen is in charge of her own room, so that's one less thing we have to clean ourselves. We have one plate and one bowl each, so that cuts down on dishes. Other than that, we keep things cleaner by owning less random stuff-- really only things we use on a regular basis are making the cut currently. Love your content! I especially enjoyed the series with helping your sister declutter & clean her house. Thanks for providing a real take on things

Happy New Year Carla! Love your inspirational videos. I've found the smaller place you have, the less time it takes to clean it. The less space you have to accumulate stuff helps keep the clutter to a minimum. Before buying anything I always ask myself if I have room for it and what will it be replacing? When something new comes in, something else gets donated. Meal prep on Sunday helps me hugely during the week. I make healthy homemade soup and freeze it in one portion containers so I don't have to worry about it going bad if I don't eat it within a few days if just in the fridge. I also make protein smoothies and store them in the fridge in small mason jars for the work week. I prep stuff for chefs salad and keep the ingredients separate until I'm ready to sit down and eat it so the salad and toppings stay fresh, crisp, etc. I also make yogurt parfaits in advance with plain greek yogurt, frozen berries, sliced almonds, chia, flax and hemp seeds. I also eat one apple a day. This routine helps me eat healthy without cooking and creating a lot of dishes. I highly recommend making sure your next place has a dishwasher. I run mine twice a week and having it helps to keep the kitchen cleaner for longer. I'm a solo dweller, just me and my cat. I have a 2 br 2 ba condo and I can't wait to sell it soon and downsize into a one bedroom. I always thought I needed a second bedroom for guests, but it just ends up being a store room for clutter, so I'm moving away from that trap ! Have a fabulous 2024 !

My husband and I moved into the upper floor of my grandparents' house which they previously rented out to guests who were staying for the holidays. It's three relatively small rooms (one bedroom, one living room and one spare room) plus kitchen and bathroom. It's working fine for just the two of us but the plan is to take over the house one day when we grow a family of our own :) and until then we can save ourselves the cost of an expensive rent and can help my grandparents out whenever they need us. Plus the limited space has helped a lot in my decluttering journey as I now only keep things that I actually use or that are valuable to me. Perfect solution so far :) Greetings from a normally silent viewer from Germany ❤ love your content!!

Hello from Texas. My husband and I live in a 2 bedroom "barndominium". Such a corny name but basically it's a metal building with a large shop on one side and the other half is a regular house. Both bedrooms are arge and one is now my craft studio. I'm really into junk journals, altered books, and collage lately so lots of paper scraps on the floor but I don't mind. The studio can get messy as Hell and when it bothers me enough I'll clean it. The rest of the house is pretty easy to maintain as it's just the two of us. 2 cats do leave lots of fur and I clean when necessary but overall I don't stress over it. I'm 55 and I think I've hit the age where enjoying life is more important than killing myself to have a spotless house. I clean the kitchen as I go so cleanup is not horrible. I so appreciate your channel! ❤

I have a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath FL house. It's my first home after apartment living my entire life and I had to buy my ex out of his half of the equity when we divorced but it was so worth it because now it's completely mine and I love it. Decluttering and having designated spaces and systems helps a lot. I also cook at home 90% of the time and do food prep, it's really easy to oven bake a bunch of chicken so it is ready to go, veggies, fruits, and salads (save the dressing on the side so they stay fresh longer). But be careful with buying a home, I feel like stuff/clutter expands to the space alotted often. Thrifting and decorating has been my favorite part of ownership, but the maintenance costs have not been (new roof, fence, flooring, vanities, appliances, paint, AC unit, water repipe, etc). Can't wait to see your new digs!

I live in my mom's house where I lived when I was 16, 17,18yrs old. After her passing, I started the process of going through her things and deciding to move in. During this time, which was most of the time, I felt like I was being pulled apart. So many emotions, grief, regret, you name it, I was dealing with it all. I'm an only child, I didn't have any support or help, which added to the weight. Along with all of that trying work, paying the bills, etc. The journey through the tunnel was full of sadness, darkness, procrastination, and defeat. The good news is don't give up no matter what! Perseverance, take small steps forward, be patient with yourself, and celebrate small accomplishments. It's been 6 years since I moved into the house. It's still in progress, and sometimes I get so overwhelmed I freeze, not knowing where to start again. I do visualize how I want my space to look , but it may not be exact, and that is ok. But improvement comes when you don't give up. Allow yourself grace and allow yourself to do a reset and reset your focus!

I currently live in a 100 year old craftsman bungalow. 1600sq ft., 3 bedrooms 1.5 bathrooms. Family of five. I have lived in an apartment my entire life prior to this home. Being a minimalist at heart and lover of design has alway been my vibe. Cleaning is rough!!!! This old home has sooo many nooks and crannys. I have been getting better and being minimal is what helps.

Home. 4 bedrooms, 2 and a half. I currently have family living with us, and they are very neat and tidy. My husband will clutter any flat space and keeps things. I'm constantly cleaning and putting things in their home. Your video inspired me. I've cleared so many drawers, trash, donate, sell, and keep are what I do. Just sold a car that was redundant. I feel lighter in so many ways. I bulk cook and eat many things I don't need to cook.

Hello from Germany! I´m a single empty nester (45 yr). I live in an old house, which I have remodeld 8 yrs ago. 4 bedrooms, a super small office, 2 bathrooms, living/diningroom and kitchen. In fact all the rooms are small. And I have a sweet garden (you guessed it - it´s small) 😅. Thankfully I´m a pretty neat person by nature so my house is looking tidy almost all the time. I love your apt so much. It´s so cozy!

Hi Carla :) I recently found your channel and have been loving it! You are a delight. We are seniors and married for almost 49 years. We own our 1500 square foot ranch home that has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a basement with a bedroom and bathroom. We downsized about 12 years ago because of the stairs. I’m medically fragile so I do have a cleaning lady come once a month and my husband is the main cleaner here. I do the declutterring and keep in check what comes into the home (kinda) lol. I realized that nobody will value my junk/collections when I’m gone - it’s all going straight into the dumpster or to donations. That’s what keeps me from accumulating more these days. The basement is my husband’s dumping ground that I can’t access so that’s a major problem. I am hoping we can move into small condo soon so the basement will have to be addressed! Wish me luck, lol. And bless you for all you do :)

We downsized to about 1100 sq ft house and we love it. The kids are grown and gone and we just didn't need all that space to clean. It was also so much to take care of with a big yard. Now I'm in my 70s and I clean one room at a time & lots of organizing which I just love. It took me 2 1/2 years to rid our house of over 30 years of stuff. Its been 8 years since we sold it and I don't regret it at all. Smaller is so much better.

Hi! I live in a 2000 sq ft home in Western Canada. We have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We have a great backyard which backs onto a mountain. It's the perfect spot to walk our dog 😊. I used to be very overwhelmed with house cleaning, BUT since I've decluttered a lot of things and have become more minimalist, it's easy to manage!

We have a two story, three bedroom, one bath apartment. It is NOT large; we live in a small 1 family house that was converted to a 2 family. So although that may sound like a lot of space, it really isn't since the rooms weren't designed to be living rooms, kitchens, etc. and the bedrooms and closets are small. We are a couple with two cats and a baby on the way! Cleaning is a constant struggle, I try to keep up on it every single day but I am perpetually cleaning to not let the pet fur, laundry, and dishes get out of control. I recently ordered a countertop dishwasher and am hoping it's going to help reduce some of the daily work. I've also been on a huge decluttering mission for the last year, and having less to manage has definitely helped. Love your channel and your very real apartment

We are on a relatively small homestead..two floors, five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of the smaller bedrooms are being ripped apart to create a new master. I have two kids and each of them have their own room that they are responsible to keep clean. I maintain the rest of the house... I work from home but it is still a lot of work to try to clean this big of a house, especially in the country. Because we get a lot of dust. We also have a large dog & 3 cats so there's lots of pet hair.. I experienced trauma multiple times in my 20s. I was a hoarder by age 28. The last 5 years I have been working on decluttering. And it has taken multiple passes to get where I am but I am learning and getting better about it. Thanks for sharing I love all of your content!

My husband bough a 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom house before we married. It’s 3 floors and around 4500 sq ft. I lived in 1200 apts and condos for 20 years before that. 😬 1) we have a house cleaner that comes twice a month and helps on the main floor. She is an angel for me. For the rest of the house, it’s not used often, so if someone is coming, I start two weeks befits with a refresh of that space (sheets, vacuum, etc). My husband and I both work full time jobs (his is 65 hours+ per week and mine is solid 40). We extend a lot of grace to one another but we work hard to be mindful of what we bring in and that it has a home. I declutter and tidy everyday or I would drown in all the things. 5 minute increments are my saving grace. We don’t live in a show home by any stretch. If you ever find yourself in Chattanooga though… you have a place to stay!

Most of the rest are cleaning balcony glass doors, room doors, mirrored closet doors, regular dust and sweep inside and balcony, clean the oven and organizing/cleaning our food pantry by the night before.

3 bedrooms, 1 bath, no basement, no garage, only large shed. I used to always want a basement with washer and dryer downstairs but now at 72 I am grateful my washer and dryer are in my kitchen. No stairs and I can’t let the laundry ever get out of control. I am recovering from a torn meniscus, almost 3 months in, still using a walker soI can relate to putting things off. I am still tidying and cleaning the minimum because I babysit my 22 month old granddaughter and we started potty training yesterday but haven’t deep cleaned in a while. I can almost sit cross legged with out pain so soon I won’t have any excuses.😃Love your videos Carla!

That was satisfying to watch! I'm in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment. The spare room is a disaster and a dumping ground until about 7 minutes before anyone comes to stay. I have the kitchen at one end of the living room and a persistently terrible mess on the dining table because it's used for everything. Random stuff that's hard to put away, papers, receipts, and half-baked projects. It's so rare the table is bare that I text a photo to friends when it is. They need the proof 🤣

Recently “downsized” from a house to a 1200 sqft 2 bedroom apartment while our new house is being built. But we have 2 kids and 2 dogs, so we really need the space 😆 didn’t have to get rid of a massive amount, but still felt good to downsize and see what we can do. Having all the space of a house allows for delaying decisions and justifying keeping way more junk. I am with you on the perfectionism, it’s very much all or nothing a lot of the time for me!!

Holiday decor was overwhelming me too. In 2022 I skipped decorating entirely. In 2023, I decorated the mantle and hung up one string of lights in the window. It made it WAYYYY less overwhelming to take down this year and for sure will be the way I do it in the future.

Apartment living 650 sf, with 4 separate rooms. I’ve found having a lot of tables and surfaces really helps me to at least keep the floor clean. When I have a lot of stuff everywhere, it doesn’t look too bad because I pile like things together on the same table, so when I clean, they are already together, ready for the very short journey to the proper room.

Hi Carla! I really enjoy watching your videos, especially when I need cleaning motivation! My husband and I own a large home on 5 acres with a guest house. About a year ago we downsized from the big house to the guest house because the cleaning and maintenance was becoming way too much for me! Now, like you, I have a daily routine that takes me about 15-30 min. to keep up with the necessities, it's soooo much better! (You always think you want a big house until you actually get one and have to take care of it!) I do envy your separate bedroom though, our place is like a studio apt., one big room. ❤

I live in a rented apartment with 2 bedrooms. In Switzerland. I try to be kind of tidy. Which means I have the second bedroom for all my clutter.....an it can easily become overwhelming there. As I have quite a lot of store room I tend to put everything there and then the rest looks okay. 😂 After more than a year I finally cleared it of a lot of empty cardboard boxes. I was very proud of myself.😊 What I do when cooking is that when I have to be there anyway and have some waiting time while doing it, I use this time to wash all the dishes I used for cooking and clean the surfaces. It takes no time because I have to be there anyway. Thanks a lot for your inspiring videos, I love them!

3 bdrm 2 bath 3 floor townhouse in Bronx, NY. 3 kids, 19 yr old and 2 small girls and 2 young big golden doodles and a husband. I clean something everyday. I declutter something on a weekly basis. I spend about 30 minutes every evening cleaning up my kitchen and preparing snacks and vacuuming crumbs because if not, it messes with my mood the next day. Cleaning is actually therapeutic for me, however I do have my moments when I hit a wall and fall into a slump And things get wild really quickly leaning me to delegate and go on a cleaning rampage to make up for my slump. It happens. But I do make it a habit to try my ultimate best to put things back where they belong, otherwise with this big family, we are all losing our minds and arguing looking for “lost” things, like the darn remote! I love your videos Carla, and your personality and doggy too!

As it's a larger flat we do a "top-up" declutter weekly the night before bins are taken to stay on top.of things; go around & throw rubbish or add to the bag we donate on the pet shop run as it's next door & a big declutter twice a year. Helps keeps things tidy & easier to clean for us

We live in a ~1,000SF house with 2 fur babies and 1 bathroom. The pets create a lot of mess and so we choose to have a professional clean our house every other week. It’s been good for our marriage, but also that “deadline” of the professional cleaning helps us keep on track with things. We do a lot of prepping to get things in order before the housekeeper returns. It’s an expense that we’ve considered cutting, but I think that the related schedule helps us to keep on top of things which is a total win for us. I still spend time throughout the year doing reorganization and declutterring which I find super satisfying. I love your videos & find them inspiring. Keep ‘em coming! ❤
