A drive-through tour of Clear Lake State Park in Kelseyville CA (North-West of Sacramento & North of San Francisco).
Clear Lake State Park is 590 acres with 149 Developed Campsites, multiple bathrooms, a RV Dump Station, Boat Launch, Fish Cleaning Station, large parking lots, a public beach, miles of hiking trails, and plenty of wildlife. This lake is known as the "Bass Capitol of The West" due to its excellent fishing (25+ lbs. catfish & 8+ lbs. Largemouth Bass are caught regularly), along with a serene and peaceful environment with nature all around.
Clear Lake is 1,417 feet above sea level and is the largest freshwater lake that is completely in California (Lake Tahoe is bigger, but it crosses the boarder into NV and thus is in two states). It's a great place for a fun getaway as it's clean, has good amenities, is quiet, peaceful, full of nature, and has plenty of space to roam around and play and is very reasonably priced. Our kids loved it, I'm sure yours will too (the adults loved it too)!
Though there are plenty of spaces for RV camping, there are no hook-ups. It get's hot in the summer, and seeing that you can't run your generator during quiet hours at night, that means no air conditioning...bring extra fans, and plan accordingly!
This is a warm water lake which collects surrounding agricultural runoff, so unfortunately during the hotter months of the year the water is anything but "clear": it is green with a thick layer of algae on the surface. Enter the water at your own risk!

Red trees are Manzanita and make excellent BBQ taste like mesquite. Our favorite. We camped up there years ago. I think we were on that upper bay in the uneven site backed into the hill. We had an 18ft trailer.

Thank you for posting this, I haven’t been able to figure out what those trees were! That upper area had pretty tight turns and narrow roads (compared to the lower areas), must have been tough towing and 18 foot trailer up there.

Thank you for your comment, and that’s great to hear! I’m glad this video helped you. Though I didn’t have any luck fishing there, I saw other fisherman catching huge largemouths (6+ lbs) and catfish (40+ lbs) right from the shore. They were catching the cats in the main body of water by casting off the beach with bait and leaving their lines in the water until they caught something, and the bass at the mouths of the inlets using mostly lures. There were fish all over the place. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Some 20+/- years ago, wife and I stayed at this park. It must have been at the later peak of the heat season as sleeping was near impossible due to the UN-subsiding evening heat. The crickets were very loud as well. My suggestion is to get the camping trips and such done no later than one's 40's and then find better places with air conditioning to spend a night or 2. We also stayed at Paradise back in those years a couple of times in a hotel/motel studio set-up with kitchenette and nice pool to swim in.

Hi Paul, thank you for the comment. We were fortunate to have relatively cool nights while staying at this park; we also had fans running inside the RV each night to keep the air moving. It was hot and sunny during the days, but cooled down enough at night to make it easy to sleep.

Thanks for the video, any spots where I can fit a 36ft 5th wheel?
@4x4offroadadventures38
@4x4offroadadventures38 Год назад
Glad you liked the video, thank for your comment. As I remember there were several spots that can fit a 36 footer - one of the open areas (parking lots) has 10+ pull through spots which could fit 40’+ RV’s, and several of the campsites had parking spaces parallel to the site with plenty of space. There were some areas of the park that were too small for a RV that big, so please contact the facility directly to confirm your spot before you book. Hope this helps.

Hi, yes lots of places for 36 foot 5th Be sure to speak to the ranger before going, they can point you to the right spot.

In 1971 my entire family and I went on a family road trip/ vacation. We lived in LA. We were heading to the coast of Oregon. We drove highway 1 along the coast. Eventually we got to Northern California and needed to take I5 so we headed east from the Coast. We ended up camping at Clearlake state park in Kelseyville. Here’s the odd thing In 2001 I ended up buying a 5 acre ranch in Kelseyville not knowing that when I was 6 years old I camped less than 4 miles from the house I bought decades later

It’s funny how things come full circle like that! We really enjoyed our trip there and want to go back…people were catching 40lb catfish and 5lb bass right off the beach (of course we caught nothing!) When we drove home (south all the way to LA), we were in thick smoke the whole way due to the fires. It was hard to see and smelled terrible…the smoke finally broke when we went over the grapevine and dropped back into LA valley, but was with us the entire way before that. I couldn’t believe how smokey it was; a trip we will never forget!

I wish the restrooms weren't so far and few in between! The campsites look perfect. Even the first area has nice and flat area for big tents. But you have to drive to go use the restroom!

Thank you for the comment. Though the restrooms were spread out, for the most part they were easy to access. I hope this video helps with understanding the layout of the park.

Yes, too bad there are no hookups….this park was a lot of fun as-is, but would be even better if it had hook ups.
