PERFECT !! Thanks in the process of getting 1 or the other, BUT had no clue what the real difference between them was..NOW I do :) sure wish there was a Dongle that worked for my windows PC...like you have for your MAC. I would love better resoltion/codec ... Also, can we use a thumbdrive LARGER than 512gb on both of these ? i Saw a video and they seemed to have plugged in a 128MB thumbdrive.

Thnx for posting this video. I came from reading mixed reviews about the Elgato video capture, searching for alternatives and finding ClearClick. I think I'll go for analog to USB and record directly to Quicktime.

I'd love to see side by side comparisons (of the video feeds) from all the different analog capture methods you've explored. I love your analog capture video series by the way. I haven't found many resources specific for QUALITY analog video capture on mac. So love these videos!

Another option on the Mac would have been to use virtualisation and run a Windows PC on the desktop.

No one mentions this but did the 3.0 have a slight filter on it like in the 2.0?

These are the same guys producing EasyCap clones, I think it’s best to get a DVD recorder in the same form factor. It may be bulkier but will be better worth it for quality sake

Hey great video! Quick question: I have a vintage Sony camcorder. I am looking to use the clearclick 3.0 to record video and then upload it to my MacBook Pro to edit. What is the best way to get the video footage from the clearclick to the MacBook Pro? And does the file type not allow for editing (heard you mention you use Kodak for easier editing)? Sorry, very new to this.
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 9 месяцев назад
If you are going to edit the footage, I actually recommend the Analog to USB device that I mention later in my review and record directly to Quicktime. that product is linked in the description section. The ClearClick devices are great for people who just want to digitize their tapes for archive. Not for editing.

Got it. Does this connect directly to the camera when recording? I was thinking I’d use the clearclick to attach to my camcorder when recording so I didn’t have to use a tape and it would record directly to the clearclick. Does this make sense or am I thinking about this the wrong way? Thanks! (If using the analog to USB, would it need to be connected to the computer when recording)?
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 9 месяцев назад
The ClearClick can connect directly to the camera and can be used as a digital recorder. Some camcorders have burned in screen displays, so you have to check with your specific camcorder. If you use the analog to USB device, you will need to connect directly to your computer. That device won't do anything unless it's plugged into a computer.

This is super helpful. Can I record the video prior to connecting the analog to USB and offload the video from there?
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 9 месяцев назад
No, when you use the analog to USB device, the recording happens only when you plug it into your computer and use Quicktime to record the video. That's only if you want to record digitally. If you want to record to tape inside the camera first, you can do that, then digitize that tape later with the analog to USB device.

Hello does it can do motion adaptive deinterlace like from 50/60i we get 50/60p without combing artifacts?
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 8 месяцев назад
I don't think so. This is a very basic device meant for the average consumer who does not need the kind of specialized analog capture features that video editors need, like deinterlacing, uprezing, frame rate changes, audio syncing, etc.

Will this copy my manufacturer DVD's like Titanic,etc. Or will copy prevention cause the recording to fail?
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 2 месяца назад
I believe going directly out from your DVD player into the ClearClick should be able to rip your copyrighted DVDs. I've never done this myself, so I could be wrong, but I don't see why it wouldn't be able to do that.

How do these clearclick devices handle macrovision? Some tapes have this and are not available on DVD or Blu-ray.
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 6 месяцев назад
From what I understand about macrovision, it was used in the 80s/90s to copy protect studio movies or programs. According to the DMCA, it's still illegal to copy tapes with macrovision in the US. So technically, ClearClick should not be able to record tapes with macrovision, because of the legal issue. However, I have not tested this because I do not own any tapes with macrovision, so it might work, but ClearClick probably wouldn't advertise that.
@cryptidproductions3160
@cryptidproductions3160 6 месяцев назад
These kinds of devices are just directly saving the output of the VCR to a digital file so copy protection methods designed to interfere with analog-to-analog dubbing don't affect them
@jimmolinaro-t9d

Despite the positive ability to edit your videos, the biggest drawback to the smaller 4 wire analog unit is that it does not offer an MP4 output file.
@cryptidproductions3160
@cryptidproductions3160 6 месяцев назад
Yeah The benefit of this kind of device is that encodes directly to a efficient, "finalized" codec so you don't get an obscenely massive "lossless" recording that's like 50GB an hour. And I question if there's even a benefit to recording from a media format as lossy as VHS in a "raw" format

All this replaces OBS correct?
@VideoGizmology
@VideoGizmology 3 месяца назад
I wouldn't say it replaces OBS, it's just an alternative to digitizing analog video. OBS has more features and higher quality, but it can be complicated for people who don't understand the program.

I was looking at the DigitNow as an option, but the reviews weren't as good as the ClearClick.
@lookingforwookiecopilot
@lookingforwookiecopilot 6 месяцев назад
@@VideoGizmology You made the right choice. I returned my Digitnow, as the recordings were just too big. The smallest It'd make an hour and a half movie, was 4gb. I have the Clearclick now, and that same movie is just 700mb!
