Nice. When I read that people in comment sections from other videos pointed out that each of Týr's weapon introductions have a short music cue (or whatever the correct term is called) from their respective mythologies, I hoped someone had already uploaded seperate themes of Týr in a mix. Once again, very much appreciated of you for doing God's (of War) work, @GOWThemes
Tyr really said "people were disappointed by me in the story. Allow me to fix that by becoming the best boss" The fact this DLC was free is still mind boggling
@@itsvideodragon wishfull thinking. Remember the developer response to Baldurs Gate? "You placing unrealistic expectations in consumers" or some bullshit like that...
What are you talking about? He didn't even fight one on one. On higher difficulty it's already annoying as it is to get to him then he needs the annoying centaurs..
"A man at war with himself places a deficit upon his focus. He is impatient, emotional, easily surprised. A man at one with himself has a clearer mind, sharper instincts. That man is ready to win. That man is ready to progress." Amazing DLC and I'll admit I had to reduce the difficulty because Norse Jesus kept beating my ass. Tyr was great.
Not lying, you have to take a souls approach to this, because I got my ass kicked quite a lot, but learned his movesets well for the next attempts. Key is to overpower yourself in Greece by doing many rifts and get all runic attacks for your weapons, unless you want pure skill, don't overpower yourself. This DLC legit fed into my mind of MORE combat that I craved and the difficulty felt sooooo fair but hard at the same time. Legit made the game a 20/10 for me. I'm a BIG souls player and this DLC was absolutely perfect for me
@@Noctazar Actually, headcanon time: Týr, on his travels, met/heard about Jesus, and after the Crucifixion, decided to honour him by growing his hair out like him.
Tyr: "uwu i'm a pacifist now i would never hurt anyone" Týr: "Kratos, my man. Check out this cool hammer I found. Wanna see me beat your ass with it, just for fun?"
I personally think everything he said to Kratos and Atreus was stuff the real Tyr said to HIM when he wanted his help against the giants “I told you I would not lead you to war” “I’m not that god anymore” “Not even if I wished to”
I love this approach to a god of war. The living embodiment of speaking softly and carrying a big stick. He’s calm and soft spoken. And he doesn’t cherish or value bloodshed. But if you try to come at him he can and will fold you in ways you’ve never believed imaginable
Odin really had it for Tyr. While lot of his mannerism Odin did imitate properly, he had quite clear goal to cast Tyr in a bad light, basically turning his portrayal to malicious parody of the real Tyr.

The Weapons Tyr Uses: - Spear and Shield (These were his weapons seen on the statue of him) - A Macuahuitl (Aztec Mace) - Two Khopesh (Egyptian Sabers) - Katana (Japanese Sword) It is noted that many of these Weapons were gifts that people from other cultures gave to Tyr while he was traveling outside the Nordic world. It is curious that people who had other deities became fond enough of Tyr to give him these gifts, as we were told in The first Norse game in Tyr's chamber he visited many cultures to gain knowledge and people gave him many gifts as a sign of affection, Tyr was a God who literally traveled to many places to help and learn and by not interfering with the government others deities because he only dedicated himself to helping his people. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyr had also become friends with the Aztec, Egyptian and Japanese gods.
It would be so awesome to find out more about Tyr’s travels like what he did, why the other cultures were so fond of a foreigner, how he avoided confrontation with other gods (especially the Greeks, a notoriously petty and selfish pantheon), and how he compared to the gods of other realms (it’s established that the Greek beings, even beyond the gods, are far more powerful than the Norse; like the power of the Fates).
@@kirbyppg I wonder if Kratos is gonna do the same thing tyr did and gain a higher perspective for his role as the new Norse god of war this leads him going to Egypt alongside Mimir and Tyr as his l guide since Mimir doesn’t know much about Egypt plus if Tyr is friends with some of the Egyptian gods they would be wary and distrusting of Kratos due to his murder of the Greek gods that could be the reason Kratos goes to Egypt
@@kirbyppgI may be late but according to Tyr he only visited Greece during the age of rebuilding which was a long time after Kratos released hope back into the world
Still struggle with specific classifications of katana, but isn't he using specifically a nodachi? If hes 8'5", sword is barely shorter than he is, it has to be what, 7' long?
the fact they manage to give the music a procendence with the use of one single instrument at the time, and the fact the choir is present in all of them, showing that Týr may have been around all lands and mythologies, but he will always be a Norse god
What is in there? Oh, I'm not here to spoil that for you. Only to help you prepare. Why? Because I can. Because for us, fighting occupies the body while our minds work out the rest. Because you're not ready. Yet. Show me.
This DLC drilled into my head how important Tÿr’s absence was in Ragnarök. An active, mobile God Of War Tÿr clears like half of the issues presented in the main story with little effort. All through his reputation, wisdom, perception, and battle prowess that we only got a taste of in this DLC. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Tyr prepares Kratos after himself. A god of war, but also a symbol of peace and hope. Tyr is kinda like Superman in that regard- strong, formidable opponent but a huge symbol of hope for the Norse Realms.
Tyr was basically teaching Kratos what Mimir mentioned about him back on GoW 2018: Become a God of War but using his might, judgement, knowledge and power to stop wars rather than creating it in the first place. Not that any of them won't fight anymore, but war would be their last resort to conflicts.
Now, im not really a music expert, so pardon me. but i've noticed an interesting contrast between Tyr's theme and Baldur's. both soundtracks has the simliar tempo, yet different choice of notes. With Baldur's theme, the notes seem to signifies a broken person and desperation, going for a more depressing decreasing melody, meanwhile Tyr's theme goes for a more motivational increasing melody that signifies wisdom and hope. It's actually cool how noticeable it is.
Tyr's first weapon is a Norse spear and shield, presumably the same one seen in his mural depictions in the base game. Tyr's second weapon is a Macuahuitl, most commonly associated with the ancient Aztecs. Tyr's third weapon is a pair of Khopesh, from ancient Egypt. And Try's final weapon is a Japanese Katana.
If this man was in the Ragnarok battle, the game wouldn’t last long, there’s a reason why the all father himself locked him up, and this reason is that this mf is STRONG AS HELL.
I think you should know about this: The second Weapon, its Calle Macuahuitl, an american Ancient weapon used by Aztec warriors, and the intro Of the song have a Tlapitzali, a Aztec Flute (it sounds in the 19:36 and the 21:10) The Third One, its 2 Kopesh, an Egiptian Sword, and the instrument in the intro Of the song its a Rebaba, an a Egiptian Violin, or its the closest instrumento that looks like. The Last one, The Katana, you should know about that Sword, and the instrument that sounds in the intro its a Fue, a Japanese Flute, its very popular
I think the meaning of Tyr's spear and shield in the first battle is to show the share similarity of Greece and Norse, and maybe to make Tyr relatable to Kratos since it is their first weapon lore-wise.
@@pracitus No, because if you watch the painting in the 2018 GAME everyone that shows tyr he is always with a Spear, even Atreus tryed to give him a Spear when they realise him from the Jail (but was Odin sus) the Shield have a runic symbols in it, its not greece and the chorus are the same from the every song in this 2 norse pantheón games, so it is norse, but I understand the confusión
odin tyr was underwhelming, i dont think someone like tyr would have his will broken that easily. his badassness is proven in valhalla. the way he sits looks like he could crush you in a thousand different ways.
It’s 4:40 for me. The somber flourish before you’re hit with that epic overture again perfectly summarizes how seamlessly he goes from a peaceful diplomat to a ferocious warrior IMO
I really love the differences between Gods of War, specifically between Ares and Týr. The Greek God represented the beginning and middle of all combat, the provocation of creating a war and thriving on combat and blood spilt, constantly looking for the next thing to conquer, leading to his plan to usurp Zeus. Týr meanwhile represents the late middle, end, and prevention of a new beginning, the evenutal ceasefire and diplomacy to end it and prevent future wars. The God of wisdom, while still a warrior, actively sought out peace rather than violence, guiding all realms to unity for all of them to prosper as best he could, yet always being ready to throw hands when things got out of hand, lessons and wisdom he passed down to our main man and that glorious beard of his.
Ancient Greeks revered her as the God of defensive war. In opposition to Ares who was revered a God of offensive war, conquest and bloodshed. This is also the reason for the big rivalry between them.
the fact that this entire dlc is (as far as i know) uncheeseable is a such a cool and amazing thing for me. you cant just save before a boss and brute force your way through it, you have to master every single encounter, master every enemy if you want to have the smallest chance against Tyr. You dont watch kratos grow as a warrior and person. You grow with him. accepting that this is about perseverance and patience was the turning point for me because every single time that i thought i would never beat him, i remembered that i had already done it before, and it pushed me to be better.
One of my favorite boss fights in the Norse saga, and he was just sparring. I shudder to think of what fighting Tyr would be like if he didn't hold back. EDIT: To clarify, I know that Tyr doesn't pull punches when fighting Kratos. When I say that he "holds back" I mean that he allows the fight to end at all. Considering that Tyr so effortlessly catches Kratos's punches upon victory, I feel like he could turn the fight around if given time. Kratos is as smart as he is powerful, but Tyr's dialogue implies that he's just as adaptable and clever, if not more so. If Tyr truly didn't want Kratos to learn from their fights, I feel like he would be able to outsmart or outmaneuver him eventually.
He wasn't holding back though. In the middle of the fight, he repeatedly says things like : " Don't hold back. I won't". Also after dying to him Mimir and Sigrun have lines implying that he isn't holding back.
If Kratos wanted to, he could have killed Tyr after each fight, even with Tyr catching Kratos' punch. But Kratos isn't that man anymore. A yield is an honourable end to combat, and it's clear Kratos respects Tyr greatly. @@alimhm7341
The thing is, Kratos is physically MUCH stronger than Týr. But I believe Týr is completely capable of out-thinking or outmaneuvering Kratos. He is also very much at peace with himself, and so is more focused. I'm not saying Týr WILL beat Kratos in a fight to the death, but he'd put up an UNBELIEVABLE fight.
Tyr looks so cool sitting on the floor awaiting a fight lol. Someone in ufc or boxing should do this lol. Cm punk from wwe used to do it. It just makes u look like a calm warrior
It's honestly amazing how Týr went from cool Easter egg secret to one of the best boss fights this series has seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, Thor is awesome, but fighting Týr has a level of thrill not even Thor could invoke. Also I like that the two Gods of war Kratos fought designed him in their own image. Ares shaped Kratos to be this merciless brutal killer who'd do anything to win. A killer who doesn't think much about the consequences of his actions. Týr shapes Kratos not only to be a more disciplined fighter, but a calm and composed one. "A man who is one with his mind has nothing to fear, no doubts or hesitations. That man is ready to win." Týr teacher the importance of wisdom in battle. And in doing so shapes Kratos in his own image. And don't you come telling me that "oh Kratos is already wise." Kratos himself writes in his journal that Tỳr taught him a lot of things including new techniques. Clearly the game canon wants you think that Kratos is growing through his encounters with Týr. This amount of story and character development in a FREE DLC. EA or Bethesda would've charged like 30$ for this. Bravo Santa Monica, bravo.
I likes to think that Týr's training/therapy-through-combat was also to teach Kratos to master his power as a god, which by this point he finished uncovering thanks to him now being able to summon the Blade of Olympus through pure will (a feat I'm fairly certain even Zeus couldn't match). One thing that leads me to that conclusion: if you use the Legacy variant of the Spartan Rage in Ragnarök, Kratos remains somewhat calm, only displaying a frown when unleashing the Blade. Like, during the Thor rematch in Asgard, Mimir doesn't even tell Kratos to control his rage if the Legacy variant is used, and I thinks that it's because Kratos is in complete and perfect self-control of himself as a warrior and as a god.
Even after overcoming his trials and defeating him multiple times. Learning his moves, adapting to his strategies and weapons. I still feel like Tyr was holding back. There's still so much more to him than meets the eye.
I believe the blurb of tyr having "doubts" as the God Of War was Tyr believing he was not strong enough to lead the mortals, thus inspiring him to travel, gain holy weaponry and arcane magic. Tyrs newfound strength was enough to scare Odin, forcing him to unleash the "full might of asgard" down on him. (Thor, Odin, baldur, heimdall, magni, modi, valkyries, forcetti and many many monsters attacked tyr all at once and subdued him)
@@FierceDeity35His doubt was not strength or ability, Týr himself says in the game that his doubt about being the God of War is that he was collaborating to perpetuate the tyranny of Odin. That is why he begins to travel and acquire knowledge, to put his power in favor of the weakest.
Tyr : Shall we begin the treatment? Kratos : What treatment? Mimir : Talking? Tyr : Through combat Kratos : Okay Mimir : What the hell is this treatment Meanwhile outside Valhalla's gate Freya : I sense something is off inside Valhalla
I got loudly excited when I saw Tyr pull out the Macuahuitl. As a big lover of Mesoamerican mythology, it was amazing to see the Mayans/Aztecs' focus on the Sun & Sacrifice be displayed through the Norse God of War. I wasn't AS loud with the other weapons, but I did get similarly excited when Tyr did a literal "Yukikaze" with the katana.
No wonder why Bro was locked by Odin in special prison. What was literally first thing Odin did to prevent Ragnarok? He imprisoned the one who considered real threat.
“I know what you’re wrestling with, Spartan. I understand it better than you may realize. The shame, the doubt. The question I could find no answer for until I came here, lifetimes ago, and stepped through that door.” “What will I find inside?” “Oh, I’m not here to spoil that for you, only to help you prepare.” “Why?” “Because I can. Because Kratos, for men like us fighting occupies the body while our minds work out the rest. Because you’re not ready…yet.” “…show me.”
What’s so weird is that I’ve just been playing and realized this is a freakin awesome storyline with a fire boss and soundtrack, you’re telling me this whole thing is free?
