Thank you. Yeah if you can keep the cue ball under control then it does make things much easier. I rarely use side unless I have no other option. It's so much easier to move the ball around over small distances, with simple screw back, stun and follow through. Spectacular shots off several cushions with side look amazing but have a far greater chance of failure.

It’s because back spin only brings the ball backwards from the tangent line (the line at right angles between the cue ball and object ball). If these balls are in line (i.e a dead straight shot) then the ball comes straight back. As soon as there is any sort of angle then the ball will travel sideways along the tangent line, and back spin will pull it back from this line.

Its a very attacking style of game its really fun and fluent to play. Should give it a go especially with most tournaments adopting it

I actually have a kids educational channel as well which has 70K subscribers and 60 Million views, so I have a bit of experience! Good content is obviously key but there are a few other things that really help. You need to have good titles that include relevant key words. You then need to have extensive descriptions and tags that re-enforce those key words and lots of other relevant ones. The other probably most important thing is to keep posting as regularly as you can. Most people give up too soon because you just don't get the views in the early days. With both channels it took over a year before I really started to get any decent figures, but you have to stick with it. If you have stuff people want to watch you'll get there in the end.

tristan plays pool good question. There are a couple of reasons but it’s mainly to do with the shaft of an English pool cue. Players tend to use cues with a much thinner shaft and tip which also has a far greater taper to it. Because of this taper, when you draw the cue back with a looped bridge, the grip becomes loose and there is too much movement. American pool players generally use thicker cues with less of a taper so this is not an issue. Other factors are things like the balls being heavier and the table being bigger so the ball has to be hit harder more often. The loop bridge can be good in this situation as it keeps things controlled. Because in English pool the cue ball is quite small a loop bridge can be a little intrusive on the view of the ball as well. In answer to your second question, it is not very common but I have seen the odd player using a glove. This is mainly because if you’re using an open bridge it’s only the grove between the thumb and finger in contact with the cue so there is not much friction anyway. A glove can help with a closed bridge because of the finger being in contact as well.

It's a Strachan Superfine. It's a napped cloth but a pretty fine one so still quite fast.

Thanks. I'll see what I can do. It's all about pushing right through on the shot. If it ends up being a stun shot then it means the back spin has run out by the time the cue ball gets to the objects ball. You obviously need to play the shot fairly firmly to maintain the spin but generally people try and play them too hard thinking the emphasis is on the power. The most import parts of generating the spin are to make sure you're hitting low on the cue ball, pushing the cue right through the shot, as straight as possible, and timing is probably more important than power. You cue should be accelerating as you push through the ball.

richard small thank you. Yes when starting out I’d always recommend forgetting about using side spin until you have a really good grip of the basics. Until you are confident that you are cueing straight, trying to use side will add all sorts of bad habits to your game. I’m not saying it’s not a powerful tool because it is, but as the saying goes, don’t try to run before you can walk!

I don’t? I play on an English pool table and play World Rules which is a common rule set used in the UK. The other rule set widely used in the Uk is blackball rules.

turkyish the table was about £1100 (paid a little extra for the superfine cloth). You probably need a minimum of about 16x13 foot if you have a full size cue. My room is a little narrower than that at one end and I have to break the cue down if the white is on the cushion.

poolsharkuk not sure, never really counted. I’m not that good though, certainly not good enough to do a few in a row. I’d say when I was filming these it was maybe 1 in 10 (although several of those would be a dry break so didn’t bother going further).

I've not made a video specifically about the grip yet but I do look at it briefly in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bosPR6gcoH0.html The grip should be light, if you grasp the cue hard then you tense up and don't get a nice fluid motion of the wrist as you move back and forth.

Leigh Simpkins in “world rules” which is what I play in my league, if you pot any ball off the break you have a choice of colours, as long as you nominate them to the referee. If I had of chosen reds I would have been reds. If I had of missed the yellow I went for then the table would have been open again. I’m pretty sure this is the same in Blackball rules as well (unless someone who plays these rules wants to correct me?)

This is an English pool table with a napped woolen cloth. The Diamond is an American pool table which is bigger and usually has a speed cloth (hence it playing faster). To say the pockets are smaller is in inaccurate. On the majority of American pool tables you can fit two balls side by side in the jaws of the pocket. On an English pool table this is not possible. When you also consider that American pool balls are 2 and 1/4 inches and English pool balls are only 2 inches then you can see the American pockets are considerably larger.

These are 3 inch rounded pockets, much harder to pot balls compared to American pool.

To refer to pool or pool table as American is really ignorant, Billiards has it's origins in France and is played in Dozens and dozens of Country's and the tables are standardized witch makes your microscopic pool table odd to say the least. To say the pockets are larger on a standardized pool table is not at all accurate. A snooker tables pocket is 3.5 inches wide a snooker ball is 2 inches in diameter leaving 1.5" of room in the pocket. A standardized international competition diamond table used in professional events has 3.75" wide pockets and a 2.25" diameter ball leaving 1.5" of room in the pocket. So playing on a 9' by 4.5' diamond table with 3.5" pockets with much much faster cloth is much more challenging, Also the 142 degree angle and Sharpe points of the American/International table makes it much easier to bounce balls out of the pocket as opposed to the rounded pockets of a snooker table even at slower speeds. You are the only man on you tube making billiards videos on a 6 by 3 table. With all the good players using 9 by 4.5 tables. So this makes you look incredibly cheesy. Good luck trying to be taken seriously while playing on a pool table made for hobbits .

@@Sean-wd7ld You are wrong about balls being more likely to bounce out on an American pool table. If you hit the near rail then the ball will still bounce into the pocket, this does not happen on rounded pockets.

Firstly my channel is aimed at players of English Pool, not Carom Billiards, Snooker, English Billiards, Chinese eight-ball or Pool, whether that's eight-ball, nine-ball, ten-ball, straight pool etc.(informally referred to in many parts of the world as American Pool). Some of the content of my videos can be applied to all of these games but the the majority is aimed at the specific variant of "English Pool". You may not be aware of it, but in the UK it is played in pubs and pool halls across the country as well as at tournament level. The standard size for these tables is 7ft which is the size of the table used in my videos. As with all cue sports there are variations that make each game unique, which is why my videos look specifically at this variant of pool. If you don't play this form of pool then that's fine but then these videos are not for you. Secondly you need correcting on your pocket sizes. The pocket size for a "Pool" table (which you would refer to as a Billiard table, but might be called an American pool table in other parts of the world) is 4.5 inches. This information is stated clearly on the World Pool-Billiard Association website (www.wpapool.com). The size of the balls used is 2.25 inches. This means that two balls can fit side by side in the pocket and therefore gives a clearance of 100% of the ball size, in this case 2.25 inches. In English pool the pocket size is 3 inches. The balls used in English Pool are 2 inches. This gives a clearance of 50% of the size of the balls, in this case 1 inch. As you can see, these pockets are clearly far tighter. Each of these games has it's own differences and to argue about which is more challenging is puerile. The size of the table used for example has two effects on the game. The larger American/Billiard table obviously means your are potting balls over a greater distance with the cue ball travelling further, conversely on the smaller English table there is less room between the balls and therefore positional play has to be more accurate. You can't really argue about what is more difficult, they are simply different variants of a game. I simply do not understand the need for people to mock a game, just because they play something different. As I said before if the game is not for you then there are plenty of other videos on RU-vid for you to watch.

Take Ronnie O’Sullivan (in my opinion the best snooker player ever) he played a woman in America at pool and got beat multiple times.
