Just a suggestion, when picking antennas to compare too, instead of just the last two maybe pick your current top end expensive antenna and a mid level one so we can see where the reviewed antenna falls on the spectrum of bang for your buck. Comparing it too that junk antenna and another antenna we don't know about unless we go back and watch that video does not really help.
@AntennaMan

@@pete-iv My RU-vid channel is mainly supported by video views. I include results of the last two antennas. In the past I didn't include it at all. If someone wants to see how one antenna compares to another they have to watch the other videos. If they do not want to take the time to watch them they can sign up for an antenna recommendation from me on my website.

Allow me to plug your Antenna Service, I gained invaluable information on reception in my area, I highly recommend it. Perhaps then in the wrap up let us know where on the price and reception scales that antenna falls?

Okay I think this request might help others. Can you do a vid about reading the gain grid you showed. Reason I ask is I ran into this need when I was setting up a DB8. I didn't understand that the gain grid in my case used both antennas and moving them around didn't really do what I thought it would do. It looks to me that moving them strengthened or weakened the signal. Can you cover that in general for all antennas and also explain the signal coming from the back. I hope this made some sense. Thanks.

Hey Tyler, decided to try this antenna after your review. Bought it for my daughter. She lives 60+ miles from broadcast towers. She is on the bottom floor of an apartment complex. Has about 6 multistory brick buildings in front of her facing the towers. Many large, full trees in the way. Her apartment has no windows facing the broadcast area, in fact her apartment actually faces the opposite direction to the towers. Had my doubts on how this antenna, or any other would work. Got it all connected, did a channel scan and 70+ channels later all is working great. Every channel is as clear as her discontinued xfinity service and has a better selection. This antenna is awesome. I recommend it to everyone. Worth every$ I paid for it! Thanks

Tyler I can't thank you enough. I am a retired U.S. Coast Guard my wife a retired nurse. We have only had one television in our house, I don't watch much of it. Then Covid hit, and suddenly I was spending lots of time at home, one set wasn't enough. I set up a small TV in another room but those square job antennas that stick on the windows didn't do the job. Until I saw this review, man this antenna got me nearly 60 channels nice & clear I still have trouble getting CBS. The window where I set this antenna faces the transmitters they are about 10 miles away, but I think CBS may be located elsewhere, I only need CBS to watch football. Again man many thanks you're a life saver (get it Coast Guard life saver) 😀 if you know of any type of booster that can be located between the antenna & tv I'm all ears. Thanks again, Grady. The NBC, CBS, Fox, and PBS affiliates in my area are all on VHF and were notoriously difficult to receive about 25 miles from broadcast towers. The VHF component in this antenna indoors near a window roughly facing the towers on the second story did the trick...all the difficult VHF stations come in reliably for the first time we've been here. No issues whatsoever with the UHF stations.

I get over 40 channels and half of them are in the 50 60 mile for sure. Useing parts of antenna I had around the house. The proof of its efficacy is that I don't waist electricity for boost of signal that I had to do. And two times when the boost shorted out I decided to do it without. And it works great.

I've got that antenna, I bought it in 2017. I had its predecessor, but the figure 8 part eventually filled with rainwater, got corroded and it quit working. The version 2 has a drain hole on the bottom to let water out, but it eventually clogged, and now it's corroded and I can only get a couple channels. I was looking at your videos to see what the best replacement would be when you mentioned the lifetime warranty. I had no idea, managed to find my receipt, and will be contacting them tomorrow to see how I can get a replacement. Your video saved me $80, thanks.

Do have internet to stream. This antenna gave me 100% glitch free reception so far. All the local stations are only 11ish miles away. Have antenna maybe 12 feet off ground. This is what I use now, had it outdoors for a while but had to move it indoors after needing the cable for internet. In Sacramento it STILL will not reliably get the 2 VHF stations we have. I was able to get them with it in a weird position but there was just no way I could permanently install it like that. As it is, they just come in every now and then. I’m convinced digital VHF just doesn’t work on anything but a roof antenna. (Channel 10 added a UHF translator for that reason, never have issues with that but only on a good day do I get both of them.) It DID pick up VHF channel 7 from San Francisco a couple times, at least enough for it to register on my tuner (that signal is now used for ATSC 3.0.)

Antennas Direct makes an RV version of this antenna that includes a PA-18 pre amp, mounting bracket for the Winegard Razar boom and related hardware. You still use the 12v power inserter for the pre amp usually located right behind the TV inside the RV. Nice upgrade and so much better than the compromised omni antennas they're installing on RVs these days. I've seen 84 mile reception late night /early morning. Very reliable reception at 40 to 65 miles. Anywhere we go camping I take a rabbitears report!

@Fetherko
@Fetherko 3 месяца назад
I have the Winegard directional antenna. It has the directional "Yagi" elements. I don't think it has a UHF amplifier. I recall that the amplifier was an option in 2015, but our builder did not include it. There is an amplifier somewhere in the system, though. I have a wall plate with a switchable amplifier. I should be able to feed the antenna. I wonder if I can check the DC voltage at the antenna cable end with a voltmeter. I was going to upgrade to the new Winegard product which has an amplifier in 2024. I might try Antennas Direct though. It is a new product. They don't have to engineer for frequencies above 700 MHz anymore. I occasionally receive low VHF TV stations when camping. But as Tyler says, the broadcasters prefer to move away from low VHF. Tyler described noise problems that are probably because channels 2, 3 and 4 are close to 50 MHz and signals in those bands will carry well beyond line of site on occasion. I get FM radio Stations from 200 miles away when Lake Erie has a temperature inversion.

Tyler - before I found your channel, I bought one of the PDBs from Amazon. It broke apart after a couple of years in a minor storm. The plastic simply fell apart. I replaced it with one of these. Definitely appears to be much better made and the reception may even be better. But as i live in a city less than 10 miles from the main TV transmitters, most anything will work reasonable well if it doesn't disintegrate.

I bought this antenna over a year ago, but haven't put it up yet so thanks for your review. I'm in a fringe area because of the terrain here in northern CA. We had a wild fire burn the north side of our house where the antenna was. I"m using a rabbit ears type pad for the ota channels now and they come in good except for a uhf channel in Chico 70 miles south. We used to get it on our previous cheapo outside directional antenna it was pointed 300 deg, but we got the Chico station on the backside. I haven't tried any of the inside rooms hookups yet to an outside antenna since the fire. We do watch via Spectrum internet via fire stick and direct streaming of Disney+ and Paramount. We are cord cutters and plan to stay that way. Thank you for the valuable info.

I got this antenna after seeing it on your channel, or it’s similar ones. It gets every channel I probably should (within 35 mi) except the one that’s farthest away (61 mi). It doesn’t get the farther ones we’ll or reliably in the attic, and it doesn’t do vhf well in the attic. Outside it does very well. I probably would do better with a larger vhf element, but there are no dropouts with the antenna on the roof. Thankfully the vhf station are only 9-10 miles away.
@seregener
@seregener 2 года назад
Generally, hi-VHF gets through roofing just fine, which probably means you're dealing with some kind of electrical interference. If your cabling isn't well shielded, that could be your issue. In the analog days, it would look like lines of multicolored static moving through the picture. Harder to troubleshoot now.
@jonathanzappala
@jonathanzappala 2 года назад
@@seregener well. One of those are the case. I have a house full of quad shield. My house was brand new under construction, this was before the house had insulation or siding or electric. The direction of the towers is the gable end in my case too. I tested on a 3’ cable. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I got dropouts on rf channel 10 with the antenna inside, and outside the signal comes in at 60%. The tower is 10 miles away but only 9 kw, because of another Rf 10 in Canada close enough. This is why I think I would be better off with a larger vhf element in an ideal world.

@@jonathanzappala Hard to say then, but I think what you're saying is a better VHF antenna than a simple, bi-directional dipole is what you need. And in difficult reception circumstances, I'll agree that it isn't enough. Have you tried a preamplifier?

@@seregener yeah a pre amp made everything worse haha. That puzzled me, instead of making the lower power channels better they disappeared, and the close ones got lower reception too. @seregener
@seregener 2 года назад
@@jonathanzappala Stronger signal means worse reception when your issue is multipath. You need a more directional VHF antenna. If you look at the gain pattern for a dipole, it’s a loopy figure-8 with sharp nulls only when the antenna is parallel to the receive path. Too many reflections confuses the tuner (but won’t be an issue with ATSC 3.0.)

A few things: First of all, you did a great job with this video, it definitely matches the quality of the other Clear Channel antennas you advertised. So, it would be pretty neat if you did an update video documenting two things: First of all, a few Franken-FMs are now running an ATSC 3.0/Analog broadcast, and in Phoenix, AZ, the nextgen signal is offering ESPN/NFL scrambled as you predicted. Do you feel it holds up to what your original thoughts were? Finally, that was a nice prank at the end, saying "Tom sawyer" is a pateron ;)

I have an older version of this antenna without the VHF elements. Is that a separate unit that I can add to mine? Is the block that the VHF elements attach to integral with the figure 8 casing or is it attached to the frame or reflector? Thanks for another great video

Excellent video. Sometimes I see this antenna without the metal reflector (also see the ClearStream 4V model without the reflector). Is there a difference between with and without reflector?

It's better to get the antenna with the reflector if all of your TV stations come from one main direction.

@@AntennaMan thanks. I purchased this 2V about 5 years ago, mounted it in my attic, and used a splitter to deliver the signal to 3 TV's. While we've gone back to cable, we use this for route diversity if the cable gets knocked out.

This is a good antenna, I still have it, though not using it now ( the moving of frequencies, had me thinking the antenna was dead ) I could get NY channels from my home LOS 75-90 miles away. I replaced it with a MOHU Sail , it performs equal to the CS, though a little larger.

I have that exact antenna and I have problems getting channels 34 miles away. After watching your video,I’m thinking maybe I need a taller pole. I did get some channels that are further away with no problems but are favorite channel isn’t coming in anymore for some crazy reason are there aren’t antenna pole shrunk or our roof got taller lol🤷‍♂️ thanks for the video👍

I got this recently by this video on Amazon (second-life sale $75) and located in Lakeland, between Orlando and Tampa; the latter where the towers are about 35 miles away. I understand this design has been around for many years. I'm in manufactured house and though I was going to (and might) put it outside, I just decided to hang it on the wall above the TV to check it out, and it is kinda Star Trek like when you look at it, so it doesn't look that bad. I was going to made a canvas screen to hang in front of it, but I actually kinda like it (hence my screen name...lol). I doubt I'd get anymore with it outside. I also got a recommended quad shield solid copper core cable that's only 6 ft., so there could not be any signal loss. I do believe the picture quality is better, but I also believe I have a shitty 4 year old TV, and it is probably not capable of a great picture anyway. I do get about 15 more channels than before, but not any that I might watch and some are in Spanish, which is great for those who enjoy those and haven't been receiving them, and I did lose the lower channels. It got about 45 channels (including those sub-channels) and so many that I had to start deleting them from my lineup. There's a channel guide, but not sure where that comes from (although I had that before, yet not as long). I have more of the sub-channels (that's my term for them) under the same one. Most of the channels aren't of interest to me, but it is interesting to see what I was missing. It does not however, pick up the lower channels below 8. Those are PBS, cooking and kids channels anyway that I don't care about. I don't watch much over-the-air TV, but do for local news and such. I don't use it for prime-time, as there are no "prime" shows on anymore. I prefer to watch RU-vid for the instant variety for the most part. It is after all, responsible for a great antenna, right? I appreciate the videos, am a subscriber and enjoy watching. Thanks!

I purchased a similar antenna but the dual model and their in line amplifier. It replaced one those antennas you are always popping on. I am not impressed with the signal levels. My old antenna produced an average of three bars. This antenna only produces one bar across all the channels. Because, they’re digital the picture still looks the same, but some of the channels don’t come in now. A least this one doesn’t spin around in the strong winds.

thanks for your reply. my new atsc 3 set gets none fron rochester ny right now. in fact, the Sinclair station , which is supposed to go new gen tv, has disappeared here for the last 3 weeks. i also noticed the sony new gen tv , x85 , pulls in stations worse than the Hisense, TCL, and Insignia non 3.0 tvs in my house did. 🙄 p.s. the android system was horrible to set up and calibrate picture and sound for each input. i rate Roku, then Firestick, and google last! i set it up using basic, avoiding handing over info to google so they can target the set with their ad cramming.🤬

Thanks for the review. I've been trying to decide between this and the amplified Fusion, with a simple 6' direct to the TV, mounting it high as possible, indoors, on a wall facing directly South. I Get UHF fine with a simple cheapo antenna, from a tower 5 miles directly South East, but I'm trying to get my VHF Channels from a tower 15 Miles away directly North West, and there is a Hill/Mountain behind. San Diego Area. A little rural, but alot of interference. And the Hill/Mountain. Lol. I know it's a roll of the dice, at best, but with that situation, the lousy inside mounting + those two antenna's being the same price,...$50. Out of the 2, would you pick one over the other ? Thank you. And Great informative videos !

Antenna Man, I have a question. You know you saysl mountains block the signal. What if your location has coiled hills or mountains? is it hit or miss with certain antennas and how many miles do coiled mountains get, opposed to mountains right in the way. You never really described that really good. Idk if which DMA your in has that problem but mine does (East Merrimack County, West Belknap County, and SE Grafton County (NH)

I have a dumb question. What’s the little cage for and is that the back side of the antenna? I’ve had this one for years. It’s been great. I’m thinking about replacing the cable on it after watching some of your other videos or do you think the cable that comes with this antenna is sufficient? I wanted to make sure I was facing it the right way (with the cage in back). Thanks

I bought an older (BJ's wholesale club) 4V the older model with the metal grate on the back. I'm in the middle of a dense wooded area I had a cheap 960 Mile (LoL!) Onn POS that got like 5 channels well with my 4 bay (just like this but with 4 "thingies" sorry don't know too much antenna terms). I have it mounted on a 10' pole so about 2' above the roof line of the building. I also have a Winegard HD-6010 for my radio tuners on the same pole I have an ABC switch to select devices (2 TV's and one Radio tuner with HD Radio capability) and an AB switch into the other switch to select which antenna I'm using a bit of a kludge but it works for me. 2 questions what is the reasoning for the 4' between antennas? Not possible in my scenario and do I need it to be grounded as well? This is an apartment building the pole is just s 2" PVC pipe I stuck into the ground (in the summer time). PS: 1:30 I see Squidward loves antennas as well!

The reflector will improve reception of the signals the antenna is pointed at but may block reception from the back of the antenna. Pretty much if all of your signals come from the same direction a reflector is better.
