I lived on the first floor of those apartments when they were called Oak Winds in the 70's. One month after my having moved out, the complex was flooded floor to ceiling. By the way, those apartments are almost next door to the celebrated Virgin of the Plate Glass Windows a few years later. Between the flooding and the "miraculous" window, the neighborhood is almost biblical. Expect locusts and frogs in the near future.

The owners of this complex should have known this, I bet the insurance companies all still knew it.

Sleeping in their cars? The cars would be flooded out, too. I remember when Covid began, and China was throwing up emergency hospitals like they were Tinker Toys, but they had all the infrastructure they needed for emergency care. Why can't we emulate that, so that people who are homeless have available shelters? Shelters are already crowded, and with questionable situations. New shelters could be erected within days with FEMA or other organization, tents that can be erected on any available site temporarily. Our military does it all the time in hostile zones or war scenarios. Even fair grounds erect huge canvas tents for their displays and events. They are fast and and portable.

I recall these apts flooding into the second level when I was a child growing up in Clearwater. It is built very low as in the first story is below street level. Perhaps not a good living situation for anyone here in these apt. At anytime…..it rains in Florida. Wishing these people help and strength in finding new homes.
The sad thing is the government allows this building up along the shorelines that are guaranteed to flood. And when everything is gone what do you expect ? THERES NO PLACES LEFT. what part of that don’t you understand? You have to leave the area, It all has to be leveled and rebuilt so it can be destroyed in the next hurricane.

At the end of drew street on the corner of McMullen booth was the rawest most epic project housing community that ever existed. I watched this dude Tracy slam a cop on his neck. He got in His cruiser and drove away 😂 it was a magical place. Cunna gardens. Jasmine court. I was but a boy. That place was magic. But they told thousands and thousands of people. Make way cause we’re coming in and we’re building a church here and a school. Yall jits will never know the magic of jasmine court. Sucks for you 😂
😮 CRAZY I used to live in that area!!! I lived in the Genesis apartments right around the corner. And randomly moved a week or two before the hurricane. 🙏🏾🙇🏾♂️ SAD I pray for all the people over there that is struggling and now homeless. Bless them.

In another place of the state a government official said clearly: we don't pump the water because there is no place to pump it to!!
Seems it would be cheaper to build 2nd level Car Parking to save on Insurance claims that raises everyone else's Premiums and Provides their Transportations to work, and less strain on the States Emergency Budget. Sad to say it but alot of those hispanic ppl who stayed there were undocumented residents and they pilled up in their 2-3 bedroom apts. Ive stayed out there since it was Savannah trace and its always always flooded not that bad but the water would be to the top of your tires in the parking lot. I moved last year and glad I did. Alot of the ppl stayed because of the cheap rent and they dont do backgrounds or credit checks like they're suppose to. Its unfortunate I hope the citizens will get the help they need

Florida and North and South Carolina officials need to implement that every building affected by Mother Nature especially the ones in the same areas. When they are being rebuild MAKE 3 to 4 stories of the walls impenetrable by water. We have to figure something out because we as a society are only idiots if this happens more than once. Some type of specialist walls for the first 2 to 3 floors for theses hard hit areas. That way you have hope next time
Those people were likely just scraping by, some lost all of their personal belongings. Now they are displaced in an area where affordable housing is hard to come by.

These apartments are located right next to Best Buy, Drew Street and US19, go see the layout, it's a giant bath tub, low ground surrounded on all fore sides by high ground, to get in there you drive down into it. This is a ridiculous statement. FEMA is a disaster in and of itself as they are withholding aide from NC residents harmed by hurricane Helen. They would be in absolutely NO position to assist anyone else as the majority of their efforts are supporting all the illegal aliens invading our country.
