Cleary Gecko vs Spawn Yoji Bicycle Review

London gets a new bike for Christmas. This review takes a first look through the Spawn Yoji 16 and his previous bike, the Cleary Gecko 12. Hopefully, it helps you with your decision buying process. He didn't grow out of his Cleary. I just wanted something with bigger wheels so he could get over the rocks and roots better.
Honestly, both bikes are great. I purchased these both with my own money and they were not given to us so I can give a completely honest review.

Best kids bike video I’ve seen so far. Bad thing is. Every one is out of stock on the little bikes. My grandson is still riding his balance bike. So ready to get him on a pedal bike. I messed up and bought him a Spechalized rip rock 14”. Stupid coaster brake. He’s really struggling to ride it.

Hi! My 2.5 year old is slowly outgrowing his Spawn Tengu balance bike, about 1" of stem left. Currently he rides through Montreal snowy parks wherever the snow is packed enough. So I am looking for spring for the next size, a pedal bike, and I think I'm in between the Gecko and the Yoji 14" (a size smaller then yours). The Gecko is quite a bit cheaper, probably CAD 140 less with all taxes. Weight and seat height are about the same, I guess the main difference is 12" vs 14". Any thoughts?

If he can fit on the 14, I would go with the 14". The bike is definitely faster and it's easier to balance since most of his weight is on the seat vs being bent over the bars, like a cross country bike. Better roll over with the bigger wheels. I think with all those factors my son flys over his handlebars far less often. lol. I'm amazed he keeps riding after all those Superman's. The draw back is that he tends to wash out the front on loose rocks more often. I think that's possibly him needing to steer less aggressively and he's going faster, not necessarily less weight on the bars, so it's hard to say.

What do you think the max height is for the gecko?

Is this a 14 or 16?

This is the 16 for the Spawn. The Clearly is a 12.

@@rtbd420 Sorry yea, meant the Spawn 😆 - thank you! My son has a 14.5” inseam so I was deciding between the Yoji 14 or 16. Or maybe both in this day and age where you can flip a bike pretty easily...

@@rpiian Yes! Can you get them or have a connection? My friend was looking for one and ended up buying a Trek. He's not really a mountain biker but he is trying to the best to make his kid happy with the sport. My son is due for an upgrade soon. So many good choices that I can't buy. LoL.

@@rtbd420 I wish I did but no, I’m just emptying my wallet 😂. I was considering the Ramones 14 or Vitus Kids 14 and both have been out of stock since last fall. So here I am buying one of the most expensive kids bikes on the planet lol! I’m in the justifying stage at the moment. I know once I get my son ripping on it it won’t matter, but it definitely hurts.

@@rpiian I love looking at bikes. I'm liking the Commencal bikes, also. They have disc brakes. The nice thing about these high-end bikes is that even without Covid the resale was still great versus a big brand like Trek, etcetera, so in the end their really isn't much of a loss. There is definitely a quality difference. When I have friends that have the money but are considering a bike from Walmart, I ask them how much they weigh. So if they respond, 200lbs, I ask them how much fun they would have riding a bike that weights 200lbs. Because, especially at the younger ages, the bike from Walmart might weigh as much as the kid.
