This is a short demonstration of the Clegg 22'er MK II Transceiver. This is a 2 Meter AM unit. It is actually a separate receiver and transmitter with a SPOT function to line the two radios up.
This radio apparently has major problems with the receive. It does not pick up any two-meter signals, and whatever background noise it is picking up never changes when turning the VFO. Mine will pick up NOAA WX stations when I transmit nearby with a 2-meter signal. Something is obviously mixing in there.
Watch a new short transmit test at the end of this video.
The Clegg 22'er MK II puts out 15 to 20 watts carrier. Coverage is 143.8 to 148.4 MHz. It will operate on 115 or 12 VDC for mobile station operation. Can you imagine using this this as a mobile? Well, cars used to be much bigger on the inside, so it is definitely possible.

Enjoyed the video. We used the older, original Clegg 22ers back in the 1960s for Civil Defense (RACES) communications. The 22er transmitter section was crystal controlled and the radio was a step up from the older Gonset Communicators they replaced.

Bob - Thanks for the comment. That's good to know. The flier that I found online states that it will cover MARS, CAP and Coast Guard Auxiliary frequencies. 73 Paul AA1SU

What a neat radio. A good place to start on fixing it up would be to have the tubes checked and replaced, if needed. There are still folks that have tube testers; antique radio clubs, and testers can be usually found at hamfests. Then, then next step would be to check all the caps to see if they're good or bad. Good bet they're going to need to be changed. It would be really neat to see you get it back on the air. Good luck, sir! John, N8SGM.

John - Yes it would be cool to fix it up. I have two tube testers myself and have recapped a few tube type receivers. However, this baby is up for sale on eBay. I rescued this, and some other radio items from the house of a SK friend of mine. Some of which I repaired. I'm not interested in restoring this one. Solid-state repairs are over my head, and I have a 2 Meter AM rig, if needed. But it was worth the money I spent to keep these things from going to the dump. The family did not know what to do with them, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the nice comments. 73 Paul AA1SU
