I love the Catahoula breed so much!! They are intelligent, protective, playful, love to run and explore everything, they have beautiful coats, and they will remain loyal companions to all those that they love. Miss my sweet Taylor girl who is a Catahoula that my family adopted 14 years ago.
I adopted a Catahoula from a shelter seven years ago. He is the most intelligent dog I've ever had. He is thirteen and still in great shape and still plays.
John Kimzey mine too!? She's 8 and plays like a puppy and look like. 3 year old!? Incredibly human like dogs that a lot of people still not familiar with . I recommend them to everyone who has a family
Peace On earth They are great dogs. Unfortunately mine is mow 14 and has a problem with one of his hips, which I've read lots of them suffer from as they get older. He's still very active and the vet gave us a prescription for pain pills but he still drags one of his legs when he walks but it doesn't affect him running.
@@johnkimzey5390 Hey john i know this is a year later, but a friend of mine who trains shutzund tells me old gsd and other dogs with joint pain benifit from msm. Really inexpesive if you get from a trainer. He said old dogs train as if puppies again. I'm sure it's different for each dog. I'm 59 and take it for the gym. Helps my squats and deadlifts, but doesn't help all my frenz. Glucosamine, msm and Chondroitin. Good luck.
I got my Catahoula as a two and a half year old girl, she was abused as a pup she now suffers from anxiety and ptsd but now she has a loving forever home and she is my best friend bc i also have anxiety she is me in dog form haha she also has a half white half gold eye and the other is brown. I love her so much!
Matty Nix mine was abused too by a farmer with some sort of stick cause she still fears sticks 6 years later but reminds me of a military person when the sergeant walks into the room( being me) she sits strait up and stays upright perfectly it's amazing!? Never peed in the house or #2 or bit my kids who jump all over her, just the BEST DOG anyone could ask for and we reward her for it with lots of table scraps cause she also doesn't beg!

my wife and i rescued a catahoula from a shelter in north Carolina never heard of the breed before but i have to say charlie is the best dogs I've ever had! he's 2 and is great with all the kids and just wants to play and run and he gets along great with the other dog as well. he's the 1st dog we've rescued and hands down the best!
I have a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog too, her name is Fiona. She is so intelligent, when she wants to go outside she will come up to you and put her head on your arm, none of my family or friends has ever taught her that. She is highly trainable too, when she was a pup it only took about 5 minutes to train her too sit. My family adopted her in 2009, now she is 4 years old, I still cant believe how the time just flew by. My family loves her so much. The Louisiana Catahoula is my fav breed now
I have a Catahoula. The rescue I got him from found him in Tennessee as a stray. He is the biggest lovebug ever. I am so happy he's mine. It's so wonderful that I was able to find him in the North East cause they're so rare up here. I intend on getting more of these wonderful dogs in the future. They're really smart, playful, and loving. I couldn't be happier.
i have one, he has a glass eye with a brown eye. he is protective and on the first day we got him he learned his name and to sit. they are amazing dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful girl. Lucky you and her to have found each other. My own shelter Catahoula passed in 2007 from leukemia and I miss her every hour of the day. They are addictive.
The couple I got my dog Magic from as a 7 week old pup told me she was mostly a "Louisiana Alligator Cur". I looked it up and realized it's a Catahoula. But her markings are reddish brown with creamy throat. She's almost a year and a half now. She's a real good dog.
Two of our catahoulas were rescues. I've raised other breeds but Catahoulas are my favorites. Unfortunately, many people consider them "mutts" because of their non-standard coloring but that's what I love about them. Their loyalty can't be questioned and their intelligence shows in so many surprising ways. Thank you for the posting
I have a male that's a little under a year old. He is truly my best friend. I have had several fur babies throughout my life but my sweet BB takes the cake. I don't know if it is a breed trait or just him singularly but he is extremely laid back (as long as he can st least see me) but completely protective of me. I have never seen him be aggressive towards other animals and is great with small kids. I don't know what I would do without him now.
I adopted my Catahoula, Tater, about 2 months ago. He is high energy but so smart and easy to train! Be positive but firm and he gets in about 5 tries.
I have a catahula... Best dog ever... They are protective-ish (mine barks when she hears something like some one talking... Mine has a glass eye on the left... They are smart... They are loyal... And they are nice
I have a Catahoula/Blue Heeler mix who is wonderful, had some awful anxiety issues to begin with and apparently two other people gave up before me, but it really didn't take that much patience and she is well on her way to becoming a therapy dog. I don't think I could ever stand to be without this breed in my life now! I just wish the video had shown some of the unique vocalizations they do, especially since some who don't know the breed are scared by these noises( which are only a greeting).
Yes love a Catahoula. You will not be sorry. But make sure they get lots and lots of exercise minimum one hour per day and lots of attention they like to be in the mix of whatever you're doing. No exaggeration. I love the breed so much. A real down to earth kind of doggie. Smart, exploring, trickster, loving, protective, sensitive omgoodness just the greatest doggies.
I actually did find a catahoula here in Iowa at our local shelter. Its kind of a rare breed here, but we are very happy we found ours. Ours is named stewie. We love him very much, and our family would not be the same without him. Catahoulas are very smart, and gorgous dogs. Stewie is colored Blue Merle, and looks fairly similar to yours. Ever since I found stewie I dont want any other dog breed. Catahoulas are my absolute favorite. They are loyal, funny, loving, and protective.
wow! ive always wondered if my catahoula rescue was a pure bred or a mix, but this dog looks EXACTLY like him! the only different is my dog is white with black and gray markings and two blue eyes. such a sweet and smart dog! soo easy to teach!
When they start pulling, abruptly turn around the other way and start walking. When they start pulling again, turn the opposite way again. It may take some time but they'll get it. Also keep your leash short so they do walk beside you. It's a gentle way to make them use their intelligence instead of using brute force.
PandaBeafr good to know! I’ve been OBSESSING over the breed since I’ll be adopting one next week.. he’s 8 weeks old. I’ve NEVER heard of this breed until I seen one at my local shelter.. I need to know ALL I can so that me and puppy can have a happy future together ❤️🐶 All I’ve seen and research is good news as long as I keep it active (DAILY) which is what me and my children are all about.. 😁
I have a Catahula puppy her name is Charlie her mom was a rescure the people who found her was going to kill her while she was pregnant and then sombody found them and took charlies mom home. She could not keep the mom not even the puppies so she was selling them for $50, two girls took four out of the six and took the one we wanted and there was only two girls left, one of them was all brown with darker brown thoughout her body and the other (Charlie) was brown with a tan color and white on all four paws. She also had a white line on her face that was almost in a perfect line she also had a square shape on her back, when she let the puppies out they ran to us and when i saw Charlie i new i wanted her she was the prettyest dog i have ever seen. The second i touched one of them it was amazing they were so soft, they then started play fighting and charlie would always be at the bottom, they were so cute. The seller told us how she kept them in her bathroom and they would use the bathroom on towels and blankets and that the seller and the mother got attacked my her ex's dog and it streched the moms nipple so it was all streched i felt sorry for both of them and the same day they had the mom at the vet to be taken care of and the mom was a super sweet dog she would always give thanks for saving her and her puppies she was a joyful dog . We then told the seller we would like the tan looking one (Charlie) and she told us that she was her favorite, i couldint understand how you could have a favorite because they were such amazing looking dogs we paid her the 50 dollors and left with a puppy coming home with us. The mother and the other pup has been now sold hopefully to an amazing home and same for the other four puppies i wish them luck with their new homes and that they are healthy and happy playing with their owner taking a walk or two a day and that they are treated well and stay healthy.
+Tuffy Baxton Depends. Its definitely not the most ideal enviroment for them. Especially if you have a high strung Catahoula. They're working dogs and need to run. My aunt has 8 of them and lives on a few acres of land and they can roam and run and mess with the cattle lol. But I have a Catahoula puppy and I live in a condominium, I just try to take her to play and exercise as much as possible. She gets a little ancy just being in the house to long, but overall shouldn't be an issue of course just gotta make sure whatever apartment you choose make sure they accept decently big dogs, they can get a little big.
I'm here because I had to find out more about this breed. I live in S. Oregon and today I met the most gorgeous dog I've ever seen. He was Catahoula mixed with Weimeraner & Aust. shepard. Very large, beautiful eyes and coat and the most kind, lovely demeanor! He was a rescue.
I got a Catahoula/Lab mix but he more favors a Catahoula than a Lab. He is a great dog, very friendly, and very obedient. One thing I will say though, despite the fact that I keep hearing that Catahoulas are intelligent, he never struck me as a particularly bright dog. I still love him though.
catahoula's are a pack dog. you have to force him to walk beside or behind you otherwise they will always pull. a quick harmless pop of the collar and a firm no after guiding them to where you want them to walk, over time he will catch on. i did this with my catahoula and her whole temperment changed when she realized i was pack leader.
I have a Cat cross. This is a beautiful dog btw! They are harder to find here in Canada, but I love these dogs. My next dog will be another Cat or a Redbone.
Our leopard dog was homeless so we took him in. He wound up fathering 9 puppies from my neighbor's dog but she and the puppies got taken to a no kill shelter because her owner wasn't taking care of her.
Mine used to run and not let me catch her. I bought a harrness and put obout 30lb lig chain on it everytime she went out (she still tried 2 run but i could catch her) it broke her of running away but she weighs 85lb now, she got up to 110 it make her very strong. Best dog ever after u train them i love mine won't owne any other now, it's worth the effort u'll have to put n.
I have a catahoula he was found in Payson strolling down the hiway with his younger brother He was taken to the local humane society in Payson. He then was chipped attempts to find the owner were unsuccessful He was found to be mild mannered and have a gentle demeanor so when they had the adoption Savannah and Kevin went to the Humane Society took the day off of school and drove up to Payson and picked Dingo out of the pack. picked a number out of a hat to determine what the adoption Fee would be and it was only $40 which was wonderful to Savannah because she just had the money . so Savannah adopted Dingo and they Were inseparable the first thing she did when he got home what she put reindeer ears on him and he just let her to his hearts content they slept together ate together the only place he wouldn’t follow her was in the bathroom because she would want to put him in the bathtub and he was not having that he does not like baths until the unfortunate happened and mother and father split up and Savannah got taken from dingo Dingo had to follow dad .dad remarried and dad trained dingo to be my service dog dingo is still in training he’s doing a great job and he is the most wonderful loving dog that anybody could ever ask for he is everybody’s service dog he can identify when someone is not feeling well and he will notify I’m training him to obtain my insulin out of a small refrigerator to bring it to me because I’m diabetic so his training continues I love my dog and without him my life would be totally different and that would not be healthy for me . Dingo I love you!!
I had akc dogs. I Found what looked like a retarded dog bodywise first thought it was full grown. till I got to trust me and come to me hiding under car storage lot. 85lb and had tiny puppy teeth.6month old.best dog ever had 33''back high 158lb 18months about .they have been sized down. he was a frow back to what they should be. mastiff/ greyWolf/ greyhound .they were used to chass down people /slaves. there the state dog of (state I don't like )Ez to find out.
