Cleopatra was known to be incredibly witty and attractive, which does not mean she was pretty per se. She was so smart (and kinda nimpho) that she was extremely attractive. The sister was pretty but not so much smart @@razanlthr9093

Thank you so much for this!!! Arsinoë's life is a realistic Snow White and the Queen story. Cleopatra particularly hated Arsinoë; she is the only child of Ptolemy XII whose birthdate is unknown and who has no epithets (Philopater, Thea, etc.). Arsinoë's motives & role in her revolt against Cleopatra are not known, aside from escaping the palace to join it. Accounts by Strabo, Cassius Dio, and Caesar himself imply she was ambitious and a force of personality like her older sister. Despite being in the wrong against Cleopatra, Arsinoë proved to be dignified in defeat. Only 17 to 18 years old, she was paraded in golden chains during Caesar's Triumph in 46 BC, going to her death. Rome fell in love with the fallen queen and called for mercy. Apparently so did her younger brother Ptolemy XIV. Julius Caesar himself had reason to spared her, possibly as a check to Cleopatra's ambitions (he always kept at least 4 legions in Egypt). Arsinoë remained popular in Rome, while Cleopatra was disdained Arsinoë may not have gone immediately to Ephesus after the Triumph. Strabo states that Mark Antony (managing the late Caesar's affairs) reaffirmed Cyprus to Cleopatra and Arsinoë. This is the only window I could find into what Arsinoë was doing at the time. I'd appreciate any additional info on this. The scholarly accepted view that she spent her final 5 years abiding by her exile at the Temple of Artemis implies she was innocent. Arsinoë's murder in 41 BC is documented by Cassius Dio, Appian, Flavius Josephus, and one or two others. All imply she was innocent (Josephus insisting she was). To be fair these are sources hostile to Cleopatra. What Arsinoë did wrong is also not known. The remains of what is believed to be Arsinoë's tomb lie in the center of Ephesus. Cleopatra went on to be one of Egypt's most successful rulers for another 11 years. But she was 100% for her downfall. Despite all Antony did for her, Cleopatra abandoned him at Actium (31 BC), tricked him into killing himself, then tried to scapegoat Antony for her own actions that provoked Rome into war. (Hilarious fiasco that was.) Ultimately, Cleopatra opted for suicide, ending a near 300-year-old dynasty. Cleopatra's tomb is still lost. It makes you wonder which of the two sisters would have made the better queen. It is also ironic that the founder of the Ptolemaic dynasty, Ptolemy Soter I, was the child of an Arsinoë.

Despite being assassinated Arsinoe was interred in a nice mausoleum which was lost/deatroyed in antiquity. In the early 20th century a German archaeologist was digging in the location where he thought the mausoleum might be. He recovered a skull which appeared to belong to a young woman about 18 years old. He documented it in extensive detail as he thought it might be the long lost Arsinoe. No other parts of the body were found. He also conjectured that the young woman was of mixed Greek African heritage from the skull characteristics. He took the skull back to Germany for further study. Unfortunately the skull was either lost or destroyed in the bombing of WWII so no one will ever know.

Look at the pompeii skeletons, might surprise you. Before the modern access to sugar and other cavity causing foods, people had far healthier teeth, they also brushed heavily with certain leaves, types of branches, and if rich used charcoal toothpaste
@ThirstyTunaTaco
@ThirstyTunaTaco 11 месяцев назад
@@Dryhten1801 Interesting and i agree with you that sugar wasn;t as much prevalent as it is now but it was existing. I must be honest and came up with this question after reading a book about medieval Europe where rotten teeth were pretty common.. Even later from the 1500 to 1900 hundreds rotten teeth were pretty common.. For example.. America's first president And Louis 14 had almost no teeth left but would never be portrayed with bad teeth. Also plaque must have been a real issue in ancient times so bad breath was standard i think.

@@ThirstyTunaTaco Medieval is not equivalent to the ancient world, in the Medieval world mead wine was quite common, so there were many natural forms of sugar that were consumed.

WRONG. People in antiquity had very good teeth. They had no sugar. Your business would be much less than it is today. plus they breast fed their babies a long time and had good jaw development. Sugar and crap in the diet is causing the rise of dentists.
@wednesday321
@wednesday321 11 месяцев назад
@@ThirstyTunaTaco NO. Medieval people had good teeth. Refined sugar did not exist. Royals by Louis 14 had access to refined sugar. Their teeth were rotten. Queen Elizabeth 1 had a sweet tooth and rotten teeth. They did have plaque, but not rotten teeth. We saw the skeletons of the ancient anasazi and they had very good teeth. They did not have cavities.

Thank your for this one, from a Greek woman. And happy name day to all the modern day women named Cleopatra as yesterday 19 October, was the feast day of Saint Cleopatra: Saint Cleopatra (Greek: Κλεοπάτρα; died 319 or 327) was a Christian saint who lived between the 3rd century and 4th century. She is venerated in the Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodoxy and Eastern Orthodoxy.

Greek. Greek and Spanish have very similar sounds.
