Paul Little accidentally left behind lottery tickets he purchased at a Massachusetts store. That's when prosecutors say the clerk, Carly Nunes, kept them for themselves. Two days later, authorities say the clerk went to the lottery headquarters to claim the $3 million prize from one of Little's tickets. Suspicious of the ticket, officials checked the store surveillance tape and realized it was actually the customer who bought the ticket. Nunes has pleaded not guilty.

Man that girls whole life is a red flag. Attempts to steal lottery ticket, probably went home and had the winning ticket, but left it on the table while partying causing the burn marks, then she can't even find a ride to the lottery place and finds a guy who idiotically argues with her about splitting the winning without talking about it in advance. Then proceeds to argue in front of them. Doesn't realize they check tapes when you turn in a large winning., proceeds to cash in the ticket while working at that location, there is a law against employees buying tickets while on shift.

@jmodified Год назад
Once you knew the ticket was worth 3 million, you'd be legally required to turn it in to the police (unless you knew the guy and could return it directly). It's no different than finding a pile of cash. Before the drawing, I guess you could just throw them all away. The laws as written probably don't cover things with such a wide range of potential/indeterminate value. It is an interesting legal question. If I steal 500 lottery tickets and the police catch me before the drawing, can they only charge me with stealing $500, or if one of the tickets wins and is worth half a billion, can I be charged for that amount?
@scotttaylor9133
@scotttaylor9133 Год назад
@@jmodified I agree, this wasn't 5$ just left on the floor, the store has video inside and out so finding that customer is a real possibility. And this isn't someone forgetting to grab a 5$ soda, this is a truly life changing amount of money. The clerk should have turned it in as abandoned and let the lottery commission and or police try to find the rightful owner. Otherwise to me it's fraud. Especially her trying to turn it in without stating (to the lottery people) the fact that it was an abandoned ticket and that she didn't pay for it. That's what she did wrong, she didn't pay for it, and was not above board in hopes that she could take the very large sum of money. Especially given her position where this type of fraud could be very easy to pull off.

An unsigned Mega Millions ticket is a "Bearer Instrument." Whoever is in possession of it, owns it. The question is did she "steal" it OR did she "find" it.
