I visit this beautiful, and very well cared for town, in North Somerset, and find that it has much to offer the visitor.

Very pleasant description of a place i know well. You mentioned the railway from Yatton, long gone now but there was another railway in Clevedon known as the 'Weston, Clevedon and Portishead' somewhat comically described as the WC and P, this was a Colonel Stephens light railway, it ran through one of the main streets in Clevedon. Col Stephens built a number of these light railways around the country using various items of secondhand rolling stock and track.

Thank you for the additional railway information John. Yes, there was a plaque about it not far from the clock tower. It must have been a scenic little railway. I didn't include it in this particular, as this wasn't one of my railway series, and a lot of my subscribers aren't interested in railways. I may consider doing one about it in a future video, but there is very little to see that's left of it, as far as I am aware. I am not a railway enthusiast, but I am aware of railways key importance for this country's future transport needs. It would be great if Clevedon could have a light rail link to Portishead, now that the reinstatment of the Portishead branch is going ahead under the Bristol Metro project. Losing both railways must have been a loss in tourist numbers to the town over the years, and the bus no longer serves Yatton station either - it's a long walk from Temple Meads to the Bus Station in Bristol (from where X2 & X3 services to Clevedon depart)! Thank you for watching and your kind comments. Take care, Paul.

Walton Castle resembles the coastal forts built by Henry VIII but (as mentioned) was actually designed as a hunting lodge a century later What makes it such an oddity is that it's castellated, a style which wouldn't become fashionable for another century
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings Год назад
Yes, it certainly is a strange curiosity that doesn't get visited much. I think there was just one dog walker there the whole time I was at Walton Castle (at least two - three hours). Oh, sorry you had that chap have a go at you on my Birmingham Moor St. video under the comments. I have deleted them now. Cheers, Paul

@@westcountrywanderings No reason to apologise I should have realised I was being trolled Anyway I deleted my responses too 👍 Some people are odd Personally I don't assume to know everything and welcome knowledge from every quarter He obviously took it as an insult that someone knew something he presumed to know everything about Anyway hope the weather turns to put a smile back on all our faces 🔆😎

@@stephenchappell7512 Yes, I do get some odd, rude and very blunt comments occasionally, which I either ignore or delete. Thankfully, they are fairly rare on my comments section - I feel very fortunate to have a fabulous virtual community here on Westcountry Wanderings. Yes, rain has just stopped here in Gloucestershire! I am off filming again tomorrow - somewhere a bit different, and, not well known, I think. Have a good weekend! Paul.

Hi Paul, you got it sorted, well done, perhaps behind the oval there was an easter egg!! I followed the link to my original comment which is still there somewhere although from your channel page only the rectified version is visible. I think the comments helps you on the algorthymn so I've posted mine again!! All the best Hi Paul, I've never been to this part of the coast , thanks very much for taking me there!! Very interesting story around the pier and its collapse, there was obviously a weakness there even if it sounds like the test weight was exceeded, maybe it would have failed or shown signs of excessive deformation at the stipulated test weight. The pagoda on the end is a joy to see and its really quite high up or so it seems. My AA book (1984) has a photo of the pier awaiting restauration without the pagoda and of course without the last span. There is something about piers on the seaside resorts, everone loves to see them but eventually they all need expensive maintenance. I was only looking at Southsea Pier the other day, this one burnt down during the filming the film Tommy The Pin Ball Wizard (The Who, Elton John). Those plaques are a nice touch of recognition for those involved with the restauration. You got some good shots of the beach showing the contrasting colours of different rocks, I think the some of the colour of the water must be the silt from the Severn. I do like these semi-natural swimming pools, the one at Bude comes to mind here. Some other gems as well like the Curzon Cinema, its wikipedia page tells me that its first show was to raise funds for the victims of the Titanic!! I shall have a look out for Dorris Hatt, I like art from that period and its a name I'm not familiar with. That was a really good day out, well done and good luck from Spain!!

Thank you David - yes, I have reuploaded it - minus the egg - and thanks for re-adding the comment too - greatly appreciated! The original is still there, as you have found, but I have simply 'delisted' it, so the non-egg version highlights first. That's amazing that the first show at the Curzon was to raise funds for Titanic victims - wow! Yes, that colouring of the sea here is indeed from 'Severn Silt' and the erosion from the native rocks hereabouts. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
