I have never had an issue getting out of them. I put my weight on the heel of the foot I want to remove, pull the release, and THEN remove my foot. It is a very similar mechanism for triggers in firearms. Stepping in took some getting used to, but if I got my toes in properly, they always clicked in. If I didn't get my toes in properly, all I had to do was hit an ollie and they seated.

As a Flow bindings guy this whole clew, Sp, step on, and the least talked about clickers, I love to see the easy entry bindings being more of a thing. I’m also a Utah local and am curious what resorts you plan on hitting while on your trip here?
@BoardsBikesAndHikes
@BoardsBikesAndHikes Год назад
How do you like the flows? I’ve seen a lot of people using them at our local resort. I agree I think the more variations and competition in the easy entry market, the better the technology is going to get which I’m stoked for. We are coming to Solitude, Brighton,and Snowbird🤙🏻
@dallascoxsmk1
@dallascoxsmk1 Год назад
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I’m basically flows #1 fan. I been riding them since like 06-07 season. I’m on like my 7th pair. But I’m a quiver rider so I always have multiple set ups ready to go depending on the day. I would say their is a learning curve to getting them dialed but once you got it it’s a set it and forget it system. Could go on and on all day about these bindings. Sounds like you have an Ikon pass. Just a heads up you might already know this. Traffic is awful going up both Big and Little cottonwood canyons so get up there early. Solitude has pay for parking so keep that in mind when you get there. And we are getting pounded with snow right now. Brighton in the last week has got more snow than any resort in the 🌎 it’s been nuts the last few days.

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes so no, The supermatics are completely different. I would like to demo some at some point but the supermatic’s are more of a traditional binding meets a reclining high back. Or so I’ve heard. But for sure they way they function and the parts they go into the binding are not like flows. That’s dope. Solitude is pretty cool. If it’s open you NEED to go check out Honeycomb canyon, the views are 🤯🤯fantasy ridge looks like it belongs in Alaska . I don’t know how much research who have done but there are some cool things to see. Like snowbird has a tunnel threw the mountain that takes you from Peruvian to Mineral basin. And Brighton is everything it’s cracked up to be. I feel you should have a great time either way. If you know any locals they can play your guide for you would enhance your experience for sure. Hey man, I was just wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking for some new bindings, and the step ins really intrigue me. I found the Clew's, and am really leaning towards those however I have heard that they seem to be quite heavy especially when riding. Should I go ahead and pre-order them, or maybe look somewhere else like the burton step on's? I'm really just looking for the best step on's overall, and so far the clew's seem the best. Any reccomendations?
@BoardsBikesAndHikes
@BoardsBikesAndHikes Год назад
Ya for sure! Honestly everybody that I’ve seen complain about the weight, are people who are dogging them without ever riding them. Riding them you can’t feel the weight at all. I’ve never noticed the little bit of extra weight. It feels just like any other binding. I’ve even switched back and forth with one of my buddies between runs and couldn’t notice a difference(except for the fact that the clew was a more responsive binding). I think they’re an excellent binding and can’t recommend them enough. The burton step ons are great also but I think I’m actually enjoying these more. I’ve even been using these in powder in Utah with no issues
@caullla
@caullla Год назад
Can't find this video. I saw a video where clew + boots were the same weight as step-on + boots. I'm not 100% sure, but step-on boots could be heavier. The cool part about clew is that the highback stays on your foot, so your board is really comfy to carry around also less weight when holding your board in hand.

That’s tough. Real tough. Haha. Honestly I like them both a lot and you can’t go wrong with either, but I have to say this season I think I’m enjoying the CLEW more. And I think at any skill level you’ll benefit. I have a buddy who has literally learned to snowboard riding the CLEWS and has had 0 issues and I’ve ridden mine every where this season. Currently working on a long term review video. The clew is a slightly stiffer binding and pairs well with a medium to stuff boot. It has a safety feature that prevents it from just “dropping off”. You have to fully pull the red lever up while keeping your weight down on your heel and then once the lever is fully pulled, lift your heel/foot up. If you pull it without all this, in the wrong order or try and do it all at once it won’t release. That way it can’t “accidentally” release

@@dekubravo1128 I had the same problem at Bear Mountain this weekend when we had a decent dump of snow. My first run going down I didn’t click in and didn’t realize it until my foot came out on toe side. Crashed pretty hard and my board swung around, I thought I tweaked my knee. What I did to fix it was brush the foot pad and stomp the snow off the bottom of my foot and didn’t have an issue after that. Still sketched out a little bit. I reached out to Clew and they said to record it, but it’s kind of hard to recreate it without risking blowing my knee out 🤷‍♂️. Still love them though.

Add two pounds to your gear for a binding that performs like a $200 mid level binding and is going to ruin your top sheet faster because it has zero padding between your board and bindings, is more than a few reasons not to get these. I don’t consider these even in the same category as the burton step on. It’s like going back in tech 10 years ago in every way except that you can step in quicker than a traditional strap binding. And i have some negatives on that side of things too. They even tell you to not walk in them. So you have to strap them on and off other than the lift lines. Regardless I’m glad you make these videos and like your honest feedback. If you come to Utah and want to hit PC let me know, I’d be happy to show you around. I used to be an instructor there and know it really well.
@BoardsBikesAndHikes
@BoardsBikesAndHikes Год назад
Compared to regular bindings they’re about a half pound heavier on my scale. I compared them to some unions but riding them and wearing them you can’t feel the difference. I do admit the top sheet wear is something I was initially concerned about but so far (7 days in so still early) I haven’t seen anything yet. They ride very similar to a burton step on but they are simpler to get in and out of they feel to me almost like a union force. I do admit 99% of the time I do unstrap if I’m walking further but I’ve walked to my car once or twice with them and they’ve never told me not to walk in then(I’ve messaged with CLEW quite a bit) only thing I wouldn’t want to do it wear them in the bathroom(for obvious reasons 🤢) But I do appreciate the feedback. I want to be full open an honest about everything I try and use. I do wish more people would give them a shot and just demo or get some laps in a pair. I really have enjoyed them and been super impressed so far. That would be sick! I want to get out to Park city for sure. This trip we are hitting snowbird, solitude and brighton
@travis4804
@travis4804 Год назад
From what I have read the burton step on comes in at 1.8 and the clew are 2.8 Including all the hardware. Times that by two and it’s a sold two pounds heavier. That doesn’t seem like a lot but over a day or two riding and it’s going to fatigue you quicker. It’s the same with the overall materials. When you use basic plastics that don’t take out chatter and dampen the ride is going to fatigue you quicker. Another reason straps suck, you have to work harder to get the board to respond, causing fatigue. But I also have always hated straps. They never lock in the way I want. The top sheet wear won’t be an issue for a season in my opinion but long term it’s going to wear it out quicker for sure. Considering some of my boards cost more than 800 I’m not willing to even put this on my stuff. Getting in and out of step ons vs clue is a none issue in my opinion. It took me one day to figure out how to get into them while moving. I have no issue stepping in while getting off the lift or un doing them to skate across the flats and then just step back on. Just takes a little practice in my opinion. It’s always good to hear as many options and opinions. It’s helping move technology forward giving us better and better gear. You can’t ever hate that. Keep up the good work! This is the kind of video that pushed the industry to innovate. Until clew can show me a base plate and high back that uses better materials and design along with padding on the bottom I’m not willing to spend the 500 price tag. Way better bindings for that price point. The step in feature is just a gimmick unless the product is up to industry standards. The burton freestyle is a better binding at less than half the price for what you get out of the clue. You must of gotten the icon pass? If you didn’t or want to change it up a little I’d drop solitude and hit PC. I have discount passes and would be more than happy to share with you. If not have a great time! Brighton is my favorite of those 3. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. It’s appreciated and a fun topic.

@@travis4804 ahhh gotcha. I thought when you said 2lbs you were comparing the CLEW with a regular binding. Ya in terms of step ons you can’t beat them when it comes to weight 🤣 crazy how light they are. I do agree the step on is an amazing binding. I’ve spent my last 2 seasons on the Burtons and absolutely loved them. I’m running these this season just to see how they compare over the course of a season. I do agree some improvements could definitely be made but CLEW is in the early stages and I’m excited to see how they improve. Plus I think CLEW, Nidecker, all these brands coming out with their own Step in/On variations is great to help push this technology further and I’ll be curious to see how it affects everything, where as Burton has definitely been the dominating force in that market. So far I haven’t noticed a difference in leg fatigue but I’m excited to see how I notice it once I get to Utah and get some bigger/steeper/longer runs in. I definitely think in the next variation though we will get something along the bottom to give some dampening. Just curious what makes brighton your fav? Maaaaan that is tempting🤔I might have to talk to my buddy and see haha. We do have the Ikon. We are staying at a ski in/out in solitude and going to be there Saturday to Saturday. Brighton has the best terrain of the three in my opinion, some sick out of bounds access to unreal cliff bands. Tree runs are usually spaced really well and clean inside. Lots of rollers to do butter tricks and such. Just good flow. Check out the lift across the parking lot (milly express) for sure. Sometimes the flat areas can be annoying. It has a park that is really good too. They are all amazing in their own ways. If you get the bird on a powder day it’s unreal but it’s steep and windy and tends to get tracked out and wind blown quick. I love the cliff bands and shoots it offers. It’s a technical lovers dream. Lots of rocks. If you are not a double black level it will chew you up and spit you out. Amazing views. Biggest of the three you are riding. Solitude has some cool stuff on the back. It’s pretty chill, it’s geared to family’s and skiers in my opinion. You can find some amazing turns for sure. It’s just never delivered a day where I was like wow. Park City is just so huge and I know places that have fresh snow even a week after a storm. I like the diversity it offers. It’s bigger than all three of the other resorts put together. Snow is usually not as good as the cottonwoods. Has 4 parks. But it is expensive and tends to be crowded. I know I can get in and out to get to work, that’s a huge reason I go there. Also best days of my life have been there. Utah skiing is always crowded these days though. Regardless of what you decide it will be difficult to experience all each place has to offer. I find new stuff at each all the time. Good luck! Be safe and have a great time.

If you need to hike out of a zone at a resort the Clew is far and away superior for some very simple reasons: Youve got a plastic frame around your heel that DIGS into the snow , complicated sidehilling is EASY, its like having crampons, and then it also functions as a Riser for those Steep hike ins/outs. Clew is way too greedy and I hate the early access model. I did some research and found out some European stores have stock and it goes for as little as 339-389 euros (price changes between sizes, less popular is cheaper). My local shop asks $480 and the early access price is $450 (with the promo code). Honestly, I can just try my luck and buy it at the resort, waive the tax too, so it's ~18% less, which is like $330, which is what these are actually worth IMO.
@BoardsBikesAndHikes
@BoardsBikesAndHikes 10 месяцев назад
Are you sure those just aren’t left overs from the last season so that’s why the price varies. I like the early access model simply because here in the US only a few shops have them so online is your best bet and it at least knocks $50 off the full price. Plus CLEW is a much smaller operation than some of these other binding companies that have been around much longer, so they only can make so many units. I like the fact that on the first come first serve basis you allow some people to get them at a better price point 😁 more money saved for other snowboard gear 🤣

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes wow, I was surprised when you said you rode the Burton Step-Ons for 2 full seasons and didn't learn to step-in while riding. It is extremely easy to learn, took me some laps on a bunny hill to practice and get the feel, and after 2 days, it was automatic. Looking at your riding, I was definitely a lot worse than you when I first learned to step-on while moving. If you first place your foot right next to the binding at the same degree as your stance angle, you will get the angles right stepping in. When stepping in, as long as your boot is sliding down along the highback, everything will line up. You just need to have the toe cleats lined up and stomp down on your heel. If you don't get the 2nd highback click, you can do a hard heel carve or a small ollie. If one of the toe cleats don't click in immediately, as long as you are lined up right or the heel clicks in, you just lean laterally or medially with your foot and it will click in. If you messed up terribly, just place your foot next to the binding again to reset the angle correctly, and try again sliding the back of your boot along the highback. I think Midwest Shredder had a good explanation on how to do it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S5Zvrrw7ssY.html I really think you should learn how to step on the burtons while moving prior to giving it to your friend. It was really sad and shocking to hear that you weren't able to do it as watching your riding, you are definitely good enough rider to quickly master this. Just do some practice runs for it a few times on a flat bunny slope and you will master it within 30 minutes or so I think. Also, for the Burton Step-Ons, you can swap parts of the bindings to have the lever on the inside of the bindings which makes it much easier to reach and get in & out.
