What a programme. It displays the many facets of James musical gift. Even his physical expressions don't bother. Evidence of his immersion .

I find this pianist excellent, highly musical with good technique. Hopefully a time comes when he pays attention at his appearances at the keyboard. Expressivity does not need to come from wide movements and facial expressions. Cliburn performed Widmung in Russia with good posture and without making faces. Rubinstein is another good example of a calm expression during very emotional playing.

What a great musician, wonderful tone and phrasing. His mannerisms are a little distracting, and apparently quite a lot more than when I last watched him in that fascinating masterclass with Andras Schiff. I hope they don't continue to become more exaggerated,

what's wrong with moving, exactly?

@@mcrettable nothing really, but like anything taken to an extreme it can get distracting. I love his playing.

Nothing wrong in this case; his playing perfectly matches his "mannerisms". He's just an eccentric young fellow.

though he has a bit more movement compared to other competitors, I sense that those movement came from a sincere intent rather that staged (like some famous pianist). So I am find with his movements. His playing is very sensitive imo

Good playing, but so formal and conformist!! A pity!, An excellent pianist, a masterful instrument control, but.....where is the beef, simplicity and naturalness of the Music Itself? We hear the Pianist.....where is the composer?

Who won the competition and did Bartlett get to the final?

He is excellent but so fake, I can't stand it. It's like a poor acting job. So the heart of it is actually lost.
