Cliffjumper is a wonderful addition to the Transformers cast in the currently running Skybound comic series. So it makes it even harder to know that he is suffering greatly from Survivors Guilt.
1) My comment about Bumblebee being "more recognizable than Optimus" is definitely a HOT TAKE! I should've been a little more clear in saying that I think he is more recognizable to younger fans 💛💛💛 2) This video was made before Issue 10 came out, so it was funny to see DWJ say he chose Cliff because he didn't want to draw Bee
Something that I'd like to point out is Cliff's relationship with death in general In both the Prime cartoon, and the Bumblebee movie, the death of Cliff's character is used to display the threat of the decepticons. As such, however, he's gained the reputation amongst the fandom as being "The One Who Dies" DWJ, ever keenly aware of the fandom, likely used this reputation as inspiration for writing this character. But now, the dynamic is flipped on its head. Instead of claiming Cliffjumper, death claims everyone around him, Ratchet, Bee, and his entire clan. Leaving him to deal with survivor's guilt. Leaving him to feel like that he should've that died. Because, tragically enough, he often is the one who dies I hope Cliff's relationship with death is explored in other adaptations like this
I think my favorite part of the comic is that he didn't shoot Starscream, but for different reasons. He was tired, shooting Starscream will make him no better than the Decepticon nor will bring his clan back. I like to think that moment Cliff understood that he didn't want to be part of that cycle of destruction, yet intentionally, because of his actions, he pulled Carly into that dangerous situation. Another thing that I like about his character is that he is not tall compared to humans, I think this design choice make him easy to approach and huggable. Amazing analysis, Trion!
His actions do have serious consequences for sure! I think DWJ is showing us that yes, he is trying to end the violence in his own life, but that it will continue with or without him.
I actually think it's refreshing having someone other than Bumblebee be the Autobot that bonds with the humans the most and being the new scout of the group
this has clearly been the start of a smaller characters time to shine between cliffjumper and beachcomber are taking larger roles instead of the tried and true grimlock bumblebee and ratchet
Finally good to see CliffJumper as a full fledged character after so many different times where he just dies and never goes further than a few minutes or even seconds of screen time. Like with the extremely frustrating death in the Bumblebee movie.
Really just started in 2010 in with tfp, bayverse his fate is unknown, idw I don't know maby don't know depabs on the run, sige he probibly died and bumblebee he died.
I love that the series is shining a light on other characters. Sidelining Bumblebee (because a future writer will most definitely bring him back into the story after DWJ leaves the series) was a smart move. I’m hoping that light shines on Beachcomber now while Cliff is…detained.
This comic disturbed me, but I also like it a lot. It disturbed me because most incantations of Transformers have the Decepticons be evil but not overtly evil, like they don't really care about the humans (except for the Bay and Prime incarnation) but Starscream picking up some poor dude and slowly crushing him agonizingly to death while commenting on how he likes how we _squish_ is so messed up. And the horror they play off of by not showing us the most grotesque things but still implying, like said "squish" that happens just showing blood on Scream's face and the word "Squish" in bloody text, it really adds to the overall mood of these comics. I really enjoy Cliffjumper more than Bumblebee, and I found it although bleak, kinda funny that in this series Bumblebee dies instead of Cliff who is always killed off. I've only read 1 - 5 in Vol. 1, I'm waiting till Nov for Vol. 2 to come out. I regretted not getting in the IDW comic run sooner and missed the majority of it. Seeing Skybound take over Transformers I honestly thought it would be for kids, forgetting that Skybound comics is part of Image comics. The same Image comics that made Invincible and The Walking Dead. So, given the fact they can kinda publish whatever, I'm expecting a perfectly crafted grim storyline that fits the overall sadness of the Transformers universe.
For the longest time, it seems most stories using Cliff in the 21st century tie him and Bee to the hip. Often with the latter getting all the focus. So I'm very happy to see a change to that.
I’m hoping I’m wrong here but I have a funny feeling the story is gonna lead up to Cliffjumper sacrificing himself. In doing so this will leave Carly broken and regretful for her treatment of him and eventually she will become like him. Great vid 👍
i've never read the comics and i probably wont because i get too attached to characters, but this video was really interesting, especially since cliffjumper is one of my favorites, even in continuities where he's just a side character
After having been known for the one that dies mant times alongside Prime, the red Autobot finally takes the spotlight, But with his human companion, Carly, consumed by anger and revenge, now against him, the pain had increased with the events of Issue 9, and 10. Your Optimus video introduced me to your channel, and your thumbnails are unique yet amazing, God bless you, Delta Trion.
@@DeltaTrion (I realized I misspelled the first paragraph. I hope you're able to maintain your health, physically and mentally, behind the scenes. Because RU-vid can really be a lot to do when it comes to making those video essays. As always, stay safe. God bless you, and Jesus loves you.)
Thank you so much! It is so easy to look at your own content and wonder “why didn’t this video get as many views” or “why didn’t this one get this many comments?” Of course you want to grow your content and audience. But, you gotta also make the content because you love it. And I do love making these videos! I also love seeing the feedback 💜
I heard somewhere that DWJ picked Cliff instead of Bee because he “wanted a change of place” (I guess also cuz he didn’t want to draw Bee lol) and I think it’s neat! Taking this characters personality and expanding it with stuff like survivors guilt and how he’s tired of violence feels real, and if it were Bee, well we’d probably have a different situation play out entirely!
Yes! In the Issue 10 Q&A he said he didn't want to draw Bee and chose Cliff. But I do also think it's because it adds a new twist to the franchise. We have had a LOT of Bee lately, and you could switch his character up, like they did in Siege, but I do think it was the right move to have this character role be filled by Cliff.
This comic made me love Cliff, and I hope he gets to be a more central character in other media after this. I later found out about his role in Shattered Glass which made me love him even more
Who, likes the idea Cliffjumper becoming the next prime in the Energon universe? I'm not saying Optimus prime is going to die or anything, but you know what I mean.
The way DWJ is able to thread in new character traits into already existing character traits that we know is really awesome. Cliff is a great example of that. Great video as always🔥
I'm so happy you covered this! I love the spotlight that's been put on cliff in this continuity :) he's so interesting and you articulated it so well! looking forward to your next one
I hope the "clan" thing gets expanded on through other characters n such. Its a really awesome concept. Its insane how much material and worldbuilding is packed into only TEN issues so far. I am feverishly awaiting more.
Excellent work with your analysis on how Ratchet's death plays into Cliffjumper's survivor's guilt. DWJ already ripped my heart out by putting that rift between Cliff and Carly, but with Ratchet's death and being Shockwave's prisoner...yeah, Cliff is having a bad time - but it's super compelling character work in addition to being gutwrenching. Nice work on the video!
im really happy they killed bee off for cliff i mean most fans dont even really like bee that much so idk why they would still use him as a main character
Tf you talking about people like bee they just don’t like hasbro oversaturating him and the hate he gets is insanely forced and if people didn’t like bee like that he would not sell
