Big deal. He´s just moving his fingers around on the fretboard and plucking the strings with the pick in his other hand in a quick, precise and well timed manner
Yeah I mean, he's just fretting the notes within a particular key and making a sequence that results in a series of phrases that comprise a clear melodic motif while taking into account things like rhythm, harmony and dynamics. I'm a literal fetus and I can do that.
the point of guitar circle jerk is to satirise opinions within the guitar community. One joke on there is that [insert popular youtuber who clearly can play guitar] can't play guitar. The joke started with people on forums making fun of Tyler from Music is Win. They are mocking the anonymous forum users who have act like elitists.
I once met Eric back stage after a G3 with Joe Satriani and Stevie Vai. He was a genuinely kind person and had the softest hand I've ever shook. I was fourteen years old and I have my folks to thank for the experience. Do what you can in your life to keep your spirits up! \m/
You're playing is so accurate that since I didn't know this song, I Shazamed it and it was able to identify it even though it isn't the original. Also, maybe I just don't know how Shazam really works. Keep on keeping on. Great videos my fellow Canadian.
It's amazing how people don't get how hard this piece is. It's also amazing how in 2023 you can't even say a damn thing because there is so much negativity, don't you think guys? on the other hand, its good to be able to speak our minds, more freedom of speech , and more respect
@@carlmurillo9584 well sir I made this comment 2 years ago, there were only a few thousand views. Since then he did change the title and now he has almost 600k views. I would say a lot of people care.
@@angelogomez2272 Its just an American Ultra Telecaster, its literally 1.8K I have one sitting next to me (Elite thinline to be exact, but basically the same thing)... don't believe everything you see on the internet (:
Comment to help the Algorithm. Thanks for posting this cover, Brandon. My dad passed away yesterday, and I'd forgotten how much he liked this song when I used to play it in Guitar Hero. He never could get the name right, because I knew which one he was asking for. He was the biggest supporter of my switch from plastic and buttons to wood and strings. Still haven't gotten good enough to play this awesome track. Not even mad, though. Practice'll get me there, some day.
if he can't play guitar i become so absolutely terrible at guitar that i hit negative levels of skill and loop back around to being the best guitar player on earth
Brandon, I just have to let you know, to see your smile at 5:27, that "fckyeahnailedit-smile" really made me happy inside. So thanks, you're awesome! and by the way, Fckyeah, you nailed it. Stay classy.
I have had a few teles, and they are good enough for me. And they are usually a lot cheaper than Les Pauls. Yeah, Les Paul's might be better, but since I don't play a whole lot I don't need one. I do want one tho
@@jaideng721 les Paul’s are NOT better than teles, just different, if we’re just gonna go with build quality les Paul’s are pretty shit, while teles are a staple, and as far as sound goes it’s all personal preference
Incredible cover. Also, kind of does emphasize just how absurd a player Johnson is, because for as accomplished as this cover is, Johnson's rhythmic precision and feel on that recording are just absurdly good.
@@ZenthexThat makes sense. I'm a bassist first, and primarily an acoustic player when it comes to guitar, so I don't have perfect clarity about guitar techniques, but I have good sense of rhythm, and your explanation makes a lot of sense of the differences I was noticing. Legato makes notes feel more strung together, rather than individually articulated. It's kind of like when people play the Thunderstruck intro without picking (just tapping) and you think it sounds like the song until you go back and listen to the song and it sounds nothing like the recording because it's not played with a pick. It's easy to shortcut fast lines.
@@bradoliver9324 as for thunderstruck, the album version is picked but angus played it legato live plenty of times, and he said it even started out as a legato practice (which is pretty fucking obvious when you play it) and added in the picking for the record so they're part of the confusion themselves
maybe someday you will finally peel the sticker off your pick guard xD Sounds incredible dude. Not only have you been sharing your knowledge with people around the world, you've also spent so much time honing your craft. Love getting to watch you grow and a guitar player and content creator!
err..for me its moonchild89's cover is the top 3 cliffs of dover.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tQ0iww5u6_I.htmlfeature=shared he had 3 covers i thought, so my top 3 are all his covers
@@nesforce7712yeah I can hear a lil bit but it’s still frickin amazing like damn I would just be playing so many opens but he’s constantly fretting still giving him lots of props
@@FerSpadaPeople are still able to criticize work in which they are not experts in. Think of people that criticize movies. Could they do any better? Probably not. However they still can make valid critiques and point towards errors in the directors work. Still, I still thought this was a phenomenal cover even if there are some minor flaws.
Yeah, this song is not easy, there's a reason why it's one of the most iconic guitar solos when we talk about the hard guitar solos. You did well for someone who "can't" play guitar.
I've never seen Brandon so happy as when he was when playing that last note. Props Brandon this is one of the most unique sounds ever and you've done it justice
I love how you break character at the end. It just goes to show that even the best guitarists find this really hard. And that makes me feel better about myself when I mess up as I'm currently trying to learn even though I'm only a 15 year old.
This is the first time I have ever cheered so excitedly for a youtuber during a video. I'm so glad you got to be my first time. That came out wrong... Or did it?
I learned about your youtube site from Rob Landes since I am trying to see if my son would be interested in the violin. Now, I have you to thank on getting me back to the guitar since the side trips in life has taken that joy away. I am noob but played trumpet and french horn back in high school eons ago, Definitely you are talented indeed.
Brandon. As a huge fan of Eric Johnson, as a huge fan of the Tele (I also own a sunburst tele) and a fan of your playing, this was spectacular. Absolutely loved it! Great tone on this as well.
@@riddheedutta3984 because most people wouldn't understand how hard it is to construct really complex chord progressions its the quickest way to get across your point. Plus yes playing that fast and clean looks and sounds impressive
Lol you can’t even imagine the time and the ability needed to pay cliffs of Dover like this accuracy.. do yourself a favor and check Eric Johnson stuff.
this wuz done 3 years ago!!! DO A NEW VIDEO of this PLEASE!! i love this song and you sir are playing it very well .......love to watch you play it again after three more years of playing... well done man ......kick ass!!
Love your take on this song. Loved the little bits that you played with your own feel (eg. 3:05, 4:23-4:26); your feeling resonates with me. Keep it up! \m/
Totally agree. Wasn’t exactly like EJ, but it was well executed with proper timing and feel. Less delay then the recorded version as well…not too much to hide behind.
“I call it ‘Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson’” 😉🤣 I want to write an ’original tune’ like that someday 🤪 maybe call it ”Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits”
With all the fookin lessons you teach and all the complicated lines youve already recorded yourself playing I really can't believe there's people who think you cant play or that yur lessons wouldnt be legit
Good work man. You definitely proved them wrong. One thing I'd like to say is try improvising in between parts so you can keep the momentum going during transitions and remain steady on time. You don't have to play everything note for note! Keep up the great work. Edit: some vibrato wouldn't hurt either ^_^ aight good day m8
@@DanielDiezCansecoM got most of the notes right with no feeling and couldn't maintain momentum through the song. A great example of an intermediate player nailing the notes but missing the song. If I arrogantly attempted Jaco's version of Donna Lee you would see the same result. Wouldn't warrant being called out for it, except the apparent hubris of an intermediate player choosing a song beyond his skill level to attempt to dunk on his critics. He should have tried Thunderstruck and we wouldn't have noticed any issues.
Well, IIIIIIIII liked it (careful how I say that). (We all do, lol.) 'Clover Cover', lol---I can't believe how many experts complain about the pick guard plastic! It's obviously doing double duty...Or seem to think that they could do better. A guitar solo is practically NEVER played exactly the same, ever again. I need to brush up on my air drumming before playing for myself in a few minutes, lol. I can't play LEAD guitar anymore, but I could sure stand in for rhythm and this is an excellent rendition. I'd have smiled at the end also---Great job!🥁!🥁!🥁!
hey brandon. :) I was pleased to see the attitude switch around the 2:45 mark, I'm sure the video started as like a "F'U to the haters" or what ever. it became about the playing and the love of doing so. at the 3:30 mark you make the guitar face.. which tells me you are no longer there to prove a point but there because you enjoy doing it. Keep it up dude.
Honestly one of the best covers of COD I’ve heard. While he did lose some of the magic by not improvising a five minute solo in the middle, the fact that he got it spot on to Eric Johnson’s recording is as impressive.
