Well I am no expert but considering the fact that Ives had no weapons and was already wounded Boyd could have made a bit more of an effort to try to kill Ives. Boyd had a rifle which he could’ve used as a club to kill Ives.

@@micahbell5709 Ives may have been wounded, but he had just ate Tofler, and had the extra added endurance and strength based on the legend of the Wendigo. True, Boyd could've used his rifle as a club, but one wrong move on the edge of that cliff could've lead to either Ives taking his rifle from him, or Boyd could've fallen/been thrown off the cliff.

I might be wrong but I believe it is sort of both. It is a curse, for humans that become cannibals but when you eat someone you become a wendigo. So it’s a creature made that way by a curse, if that makes sense.

The Wendigo was a supernatural entity. Itself seems to possibly be a representation of what heinous acts man will do when greedy, desperate and hungry - such as committing cannibalism. In the original tales, they're often depicted as humanoid-like giants who feasted on men. But they weren't always described as having the same physical characteristics of humans. Some early legends suggest they had very ghoulish features, thinly, pale, etc. They were also associated with death and decay, not much different than that of legends of vampires in Eastern Europe whom were also stated to pester and feed on the life of humans. But the key trait of the Wendigo is its constant desire / need to consume. With that said, it was believed humans themselves could ultimately change into Wendigos if they engaged in over consumption and/or cannibalism.
