Climate change may seem far away in some parts of the world, but for Pacific Islanders, its effects are very real. In August 2016, anthropologist Jennifer Newell led a Constantine S. Niarchos Expedition to the Marshall Islands to study how communities there are reacting to flooding, drought, and other effects of climate change, and how they are navigating an uncertain future.
The Constantine S. Niarchos Expedition featured here was generously supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

With solar cycle 25, 26 and 27 the climate will be colder, less melting - stable water level.

Every little bit helps. When you visit the Marshall Islands, bring a suitcase full of sand.

It seems like an anthropologist would be aware that the Marshallese have historically settled in one location until it was fished out or other resources were depleted and moved on to a new area. The difference between then and now is that they no longer migrate. It also begs the question of whether locals would prefer that funds be spent on an anthropologist interviewing them or remediation.

Well. That' a helpful solution to displacement. Cultural traditions, dubbed historical, are anything but historical. There is no place to migrate. Excepting Arkansas.

@@vincentgallagher7562 "Cultural traditions, dubbed historical, are anything but historical. " That's why archeological evidence always helps. " There is no place to migrate. " It's a big planet.

Shame on us for dropping a nuclear bomb on these lovely people. If someone did the same to us, they'd be well within their rights and it would be our karma. We've committed so many atrocities at home and around the world. These folks have endured so much already and are now dealing with climate change despite having practically NO carbon footprint. So unfair.
