Climb Double Rope Faster!

Another long winded video on a pretty simple idea! When I'm double rope climbing, I always install my cambium saver by hand. I've almost never set cambium savers with a throwball from the ground, I find it tedious and frustrating. Ideally I'd always climb with a cambium saver. It's better for your rope and the tree. To avoid natural crotch climbing in the tree and setting a cambium saver from the ground I usually create a canopy anchor so that I can ascend single rope and transition to double rope. The goal of this video was to highlight the fact that advancing beginner climbers with only double rope equipment can utilize single rope techniques without all of the fancy SRT equipment.

I might be missin' the point somewhere along the line but as an arborist, I simply would never ascend a tree, especially for the first time, on a system I couldn't instantaneously bail on - this'd be due to bees/ wasps or even just (real story here) one very pissed off Momma squirrel some years ago. I know I could rig up a munter or ring to add friction if wanting to descend, but that takes time. Esp. with the tree rat experience, I'm outta here, right now like. Also, in winter climbs a single hitch might be peachy on a nice warm dry rope but most times I wouldn't trust just one holder-upper if the rope was wet or frozen (bitter experience here). Just my two cents tho. Cheers and thanks for taking the time for making the video.

That’s a great point, there’s definitely some issues with ascending on a system you can’t immediately descend on. However, there’s times when I’m resetting a tie in where I might encounter some “locals” and a immediate descent isn’t readily possible. Just gotta be ready to whip some shit up and fly. I was resetting my tie from the crane a couple days ago and standing face to face with a huge cavity that I had no doubt was inhabited, thankfully there was an outlet elsewhere that they fled from. Thought I was gonna have to squeal like a pig and jump out of the tree, but I got lucky.

Every time I get to the end of one your videos, all I want to do is throw my harness on and get up there. When you climb trees, you know 👍

Another option I used a lot is to: -Pass rope thru small ring -Throw line pulls up/over tie in point -Pass rope thru big ring and knot block -Tie on tail to friction saver Pull up and set friction saver, climb SRT to tie in point. -Friction saver is already set. Switch to DRT

Awesome and helpful video. I am new to climbing and have an intuitive attraction to single rope systems, but don't want to have to buy expensive devices. Nice to see some simple approaches.

I really like it, it’s pretty weird to get used to. I loved the Grillion I used to have and hated someone’s positioner that I borrowed. The positioner felt way to touchy, and I really like how the Glide feels more gradual in its release. It has taken a lot of getting used to. What rope do you use? I’ve been using some big Samson Vortex as my flip line.

Using the friction saver as a soft 8 is easy to install and your already in the system when you get up.

That’s a great point, I’ve done that to preset a canobase. That’s a fantastic idea

Nice video. I’m interested in that lanyard adjuster! Green too 😍. Is it Art? I have the zillion. As you probably know if anything taps it it will release just enough to scare you 😂

That’s the Notch Glide! It’s pretty nifty, I’ve tried that ART positioner and I was not a fan, it was way too jumpy for me. The Glide is a lot smoother and it’s a very nice price for something so fancy. Took some getting used to, but I’m a huge fan so far.

I was trying to think of what I’d heard other people call it! I kept thinking cowboy canopy anchor, but that sounded wrong. Thank you!

@@treespicemediaNo problem. Knowledge is power, and sharing is caring 😊. In all honesty, I only know that because I'm currently learning the various knots lol.

I was going to complement your video for how quiet the background sounds are and how this makes it so easy to fully concentrate on the content... then you inject that crap music and kill the whole mood...kids, they only half know what they're doing!
