Let't climb to Acatenango volcano in Guatemala and do some hiking and camping there! It is 1 of the 37 volcanos in the country.
I joined a 2-day tour for 450Q ($58). It's including most of the outfits. For equipment and boots, they are available to rent at the agency. A passport is required as a deposit.
It took me over 5 hrs to climb up to the campsite. The slope was very steep and slippery. The weather was not very stable. I couldn't define if that' was rain or fog. I finally made it by a porter carrying my bag (with 4 litres of water and extra clothes).
Our agency has a few huts at campsite with bedding already prepared. As far as I know, not every agency has that service.
Later in the afternoon, we had a fire place for marshmallow and hot chocolate. For dinner, our guides cooked some hot food for us. It was nice to meet other travellers who also like to explore the world.
2 people in our tour got sick due to the altitude. So, take your time & stay safe. It's difficult hike.
Since the weather was not stable, we couldn't see anything...It was quiet disappointed. For going down, I took half of the time. Basically, I was just sliding.
This experience couldn't let me down, I went straight to another one the week after. Stay tune for more.
