Hi All! Today I'll show the past weekend experience: climbing the fully italian glacier Gran Paradiso, in Aosta Valley, Valsavarenche.
The beginning of the trail starts 1.800 masl, then we hiked for about 900d+ to reach Chabot Mountain Hut, at 2.710 masl. We arrived at 4pm, we checked the mountaineering equipement for the next day, then we had dinner.
In the video I reported some manouvers I was doing just to practice, hope you like it. Give me advices if you notice something!
The next morning we woke up at 2.30 AM, to have breakfast, then leave the mountain hut at 4AM. Almost 1h of quite intense hiking to reach the beginnig of the glacier.
Here we equipped with the required material (harness, crampons, ice axe and ropes).
Then we started the ascent to the summit, finding out a lot of crevasses. The trail before the very summit is a mixture of rocks and stones, I removed the crampons to be more agile. Then the fantastic summit, at the end of the video. Hope you like!

Nice, did same thing a few days ago. One note: this is Madonna peak (4058.). Gran Paradiso peak if further on the ridge and a bit more difficult :)

La séquence de la corde et des mousquetons nous en dit mieux qu'un long discours sur la personnalité de l'auteur de cette vidéo !

Hey there! Thank you for the video and congrats on the accent. A question from my side. What's the thing with a carabiner next to your right hand? I don't know this. What is it for? Thanks!

Hi! Thank you for the comment and for the kudos! I'm glad you liked the video. Aaaaa I spent few moments in trying to understand what you were referring to... But now I know! Is a very small carabiner I attached to my right glove. I use it to rapidly and safely fix the glove to the harness when I want to shot photos or start/stop the camera. I don't like to put it free in pockets or into the jacket... I want to have it fixed somewhere. After this experience I can say I don't really like the fact that I have a carabiner floating everywhere... It may stuck somewhere. But it is connected to a very small ribbon that can brake easily in case of much load. However, next time I'll try another solution. Any advice?

@@profilo_is_back For Scottish winter mountaineering I use elastic wrist loops, with a short elastic tether, sewn to the inside of the glove. Could save your glove, your fingers & your life!

Is the climb suitable for beginners looking to start mountaineering? Whats the technical level needed and fitness level required. Thank you !

HI! Thank you for the comment! To be sincere...no, it is not suitable for beginners to complete the ascent in safe conditions. You need a bit of experience in terms of hig-altitude conditions and mountain hiking techinques, it is physically hard (900 d+ first day, 1300 d+ second day, the second day you also have to return back down to the parking). Moreover you need specific material (the one you see in the video) and you do have to know how to use it. Al these are for safety conditions! For sure if everything goes well, you can go straight on. But honestly, I won't do that for sure.

How cold is it at the summit?

Hi! last year we were at about -5°C. it was a sunny day, in the middle of July, quite hot period. It really depends on the daily conditions. Few weeks ago I went on Mont Blanc, here it was about -15° with 40/50 km/h of wind. Really tough conditions.
