For the munter, grab it in the same way and go knuckles to knuckles 😀

Thanks for this refresher course. This is how I learned to tie clove and munter hitches for climbing, but it’s been a while, so I’d forgotten. It had become a muscle memory thing once I had it down though.

Was taught that in 1987 by John Yates BMG… half way up Ty Du Rd in Beris. (Not a route… the street) Used it ever since.

Sadly I can't remember who taught me, or where I first saw it!

(TLDR; do you switch up which hand is on top in order to get the knot orientation you want in a given situation?) I've been having a play with this and may be overthinking it...but there are 4 ways to do this method which change the final orientation of the clove hitch ie. There are 4 combos of Right or Left hand on top...with top hand either closest or furthest from your harness tie in (or on the dead vs live end of the rope). Different combos produce some mirror images of the knot. You can rotate the knot at the end to eliminate some of the effects but this leads to some crossing of rope ends and a small amount of twist in the rope. Thanks for all the great videos Jez, brilliant channel.

Could you do bowline with a Yosemite finish I just can't work out how to stop the tail strand Fromm pulling under the load strand

Pull the bowline (somewhat) tight before you do the Yosemite finish. Then you stick the end of the rope through and tighten everything up for good.
