I did that walk in 1973. No cat walk or clearly defined trail then. Tried it with my daughter ten years ago but gave up. . Great experience when you get at the top. I think false hope is a cirque. Not for the faint of heart for sure. Thanks for allowing me to tag along.

Hunted moose North of Gros Morne at Portland Creek Pond. Some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain a person could ever hope to hike or hunt. With the trails you don't have to pull yourself out of all the bogs.

Beautiful hike! Chuckled a little because I know it would be grueling for me now but when I was in my 20's I lived in Jackson, Wyoming in the Teton Range and was able to climb (really a bit more technical hike, as you cross a snow field) a mountain called Teewinot. The peak is at 12,325 feet (3,757 meters). The base is at about 6,400 feet (1.95 meters) so it's a good bit of vertical climb. We started about 4:30 a.m. and were able to finish in time to get to our car by 4 p.m. and back in town to work by our 5 p.m. start time. We were pretty much running all the way down! Oh, to be young again! 😂

We used to make an annual trip to Gros Morne Park before we had kids. Part of that trip was the annual trip up the 'hill'. The first few trips up, there was no signage and no trail across the top and down the back. When our 2 girls got big enough we went back again for another trip to the top. This time there was a trail across the top and a trail down the back. Our girls got a great thrill playing in the snow that we found tucked into the shadows on the way up. It was one of my most memorable family days. Our youngest daughter (8 at the time) found a 'magic' walking stick. That stick kept her going the whole trip! Thanks for bringing back all those memories.

Excellent video as usual. My late wife and I went to the end of the Viking trail to the Viking village at L'Anse aux Meadows 20 years ago. We did a boat tour along the way. In no way comparable to that hike but very memorable, nonetheless. Thanks for all your hard work. Cheers!

Did the hike 20 years ago and loved the views. Hardest hike I’ve ever done so far. On the way down my legs were jelly lol.

Great video Chuck! I hiked the trail about 25 years ago, with my friends from Cow Head. It was a tough hike then, but the view of Western Brook pond was worth it all. Seems like the steps were the hardest part(?)Good on you sir for taking on the challenge

I have done that mountain many times over the years. In addition to the water, I take Nuun tablets to help restore electrolytes especially on long hikes like that. Chuck, the winter snowshoe into the base is beautiful as well. Enjoyed the video.

You did well! This summer my wife and I made a 10 mile round trip hike with 2000 ft climb in elevation. Took us 8 hours and I hopped the last mile on one leg due to a bad knee. I wouldn’t do it again but also wouldn’t have missed the experience for the world.

Well, that was an excellent experience that you had. You couldn't have asked for a better day. I don't think that I'll ever be able to make this part of the trip. So, I am glad that you and your wife did it for us. You did an amazing job with your video work. One really got the impression that you were right " there" with you. Now, I might try to walk to the " No return sign" some time. If you're going to do something it should be outside like you say in your video endings Thank you for sharing your experience. Looking forward to more videos. ENJOY THE FLATS BYE.

Great on you both for doing the mountain! It is on my bucket list as well. I was there years ago and backpacked the Long Range Mountains for 5 days. We were dropped at the end of Western Brook Pond and came out in Fairy Gulch. We hoped to hike Gros Morne but we were late starting our backpacking trip due to complications so didn't have enough time but to be honest, we were too tired after the long hike we had. haha! NFLD is such a beautiful place, it is no wonder you got emotional at the top, that kind of beauty can do it to ya! lol Thanks for taking the time to film and share your great accomplishment! :) :)

Can't wait to do this hike! Thanks for the great video. Can I ask where you left your dog - is there a dog sitter nearby? I need to leave my two aussies somewhere while doing this hike?
@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
Yes there are locals in rocky harbour who do just that sort of thing. We got a few names from the park we stayed in there. But I’m sure if it ask anyone in town they would be able to provide you with some names.
