One cannot help but love Colorado. The five days in Denver undoubtedly helped you to acclimate to altitude but not enough for a day like this one. Sixty miles with those climbs is incredible. I have been as high as 14,000. Just walking up there is a major test. Many years ago I experienced a whiteout in Rabbit Ears Pass. That was mid August. I hope that you stay ahead of the snow.

Hi Robert. Never heard of Rabbit Ear Pass so looked it up. Will put it on the list. Colorado is a superb state. I had a ball going across it this last fall. As for the snow, well, you'll have to watch on 😬

Kudos to you for that day. Last year, I rode up from Idaho Springs to the summit of Mt Evans. Even after 3 days of sleeping at 10,000ft, I still felt the effects of the lack of oxygen, even at 8-9000 ft. I do admit, the descent from Echo Lake was one of my best ever. Hardly any need for brakes, and the views were incredible.
@FlyscoutRyder
@FlyscoutRyder 2 года назад
Idaho Springs to Mt Evans sounds like a brute. I would have wanted to climb Mt Evans but there was no way with how tired I was plus it was closed. Hopefully another time. The views from the summit must have been incredible. Thanks for reaching out and watching. More on the way, Loveland Pass in 18F and snowing.
@Friday1970
@Friday1970 2 года назад
@@FlyscoutRyder The views are amazing! However...the ride down was worse than going up. The road is in very poor shape and I found myself on the brakes for much of the descent. Ironically, at the top, someone asked if I would go through my brakes going back down. I looked at my pads and say "Nah, I won't have any problem". By the time I got back to Echo Lake, much of my pads were worn down. I ended having to replace them later that day.

@@FlyscoutRyder my job ends September 15th. Then I will take a train to Faro in the south of Portugal and ride the coast all the way up to Porto where I live. But the real challenge will be next year (hopefully) in the US. Starting in Vegas, Death Valley, Mojave Preserve, Havasu, route 66, Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, Arches, Black Canyon of Gunnison, Independence Pass, Million Dollar Highway and ending in Albuquerque or Denver, not sure yet. Starting mid march or the opposite direction starting in September.

The range of emotions you went through in this video is astonishing. Similar to cycling 1 when you first started out but it was much more in depth in this video. A few of the scenes you almost didn't look like you if you know what I mean. When you were feeling accomplished and cheering like a kid on the descent, I'm sure we all are overjoyed for you with great happiness in those moments. The pain of going up and up contrasted with the beauty of the Rockies, is amazing. As always, Thanks Diego for sharing.

Thanks BT. I was definitely not all there at times dealing with altitude change and overall fatigue. This whole episode and the ones to come is where I find myself with the most joy. I love touring as you know but out of all I love about it, climbing is top notch. Even compared to descending. But both of course. Those climbs are spectacular as you see better and better scenery around each corner and mile while going slow enough to absorb every detail. Also being filled with constant endorphins from the task. Thank you for watching and all else.

Hey Diego, I've started watching USA2 and finally caught up to ya, Your documentary has sparked a love I've always had for touring. I've picked up an old Cannondale touring bike and getting it road ready. Planning a 4 or 5 day local route to see if Im capable. Thanks again for your documentary it has given me so much enjoyment. Also if you ever get a chance to try out the pinion gearbox give a shout out, I would like to hear what you think of it. Your good at what you do!

Hi Joe. Very kind words and for sure my favorite kind of comment. I dream of getting as many people as possible out on a bicycle enjoying the freedom it has provided me and so much more. I would like to hear about how it goes with you with your new bike and your plans on doing a tour. Also if you have any questions concerning. About the Pinion gear box, I am expecting a Pinion frame from CoMotion in a week or two so I can build it. I've waited over six months for it after being fitted in Eugene OR where their factory is. Next season should be with it and I will be reviewing it on the go. I bet it will be amazing. Thank you so much for reaching out.

I suggest a DIY electric assist with a optional solar charger. A salvaged altinator motor works great. I use Hand held power tool batteries for my set up. Really helps with peddling on a grade and quick chargeing. Battery life is about 30 mins regardless. I carry 4 with me and have a small solar panel DIY for off side camping. Looks like a great adventure and you have my wheels turning. Lol sounds a bit punishing. Stay cool friend. SMFAA75

There is a bike race that I've done about 5 times that starts in Idaho Springs, goes up through Echo Lake then up to the Mt. Evans summit. The race is 28 miles, and the climb is close to 7,000ft. I also love Juniper Pass and Squaw pass. I need to start riding in this area more like I used to.

I ride on 40 a lot because I live about 15 miles to the south of where this particular video starts and ya know that "jump' that ya hit just after the path started? I was going about 35MPH and I didn't know it was there because it must have recently developed and I went flying, I must have jumped like 10 feet without even pulling up on the handlebars and this was on my lightweight road bike LOL!!!
