Climbing Up Cross Mountain Medjugorje | Part 1

About 60-90 minutes. If you do it at night like we did to see the sunrise, more toward 90 because it’s so dark. It’s also not the easiest climb even though it’s not overly high. It’s deceptively steep and very rocky…hard on your shoes and feet. We went up on Ascension Thursday 2004. We started the climb around 4 am and got up in time for sunrise around 6. It was quite an experience. Everyone in my group was tired afterward so they went back down. I stayed up longer and then went solo back down the opposite side toward the church for early mass. My hope was to go early so I could go back to our hostel and sleep while everyone else was out as church later. Do not do what I did. I got lost and ended up following the steeple to try to get to the church. I almost toppled down the mountain because of no path and wound up in a hill field with 3 ft high grass. I eventually made it to church, but actually fell asleep in the back before mass started because the descent was brutal. Ripped apart my sneakers too. Stay on the path and you’ll be fine. You’re asking for an trouble if you don’t.
