Im dealing with this. My humble reccomendations: Drink plenty of water [64 oz daily, MINIMUM]. Eat fiber [an apple a day really does work!] Get ready for liquid only or soft food diet, maybe, during bad spells. Ginger turmeric tea seemed to help my inflammation a TON. I've also heard small amounts of apple cider vinegar helps. Consider intermittent fasting. Take probiotics. Also, Sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, Kefir. Get exercise. Stretch, and check your posture. Start a food journal. Make sure you have a DR you can talk to when symptoms occur/get bad/worse. Try not to strain on the toilet, or sit on it too long. Get a "squatty potty." or other way to lift feet when you poop. Really helps BMs Good luck

Your opinion is humble and may help but its not that simple just drinking 64 ounces of H2O a day. A person need for water varies and the hype of drinking lots of water is a myth in solving everyone G.I. issues

Same. I just got out the hospital. I was whole-food vegan for the last 5 years to manage what was always told to me was IBS and it worked remarkably. Then I got an abscess with bowel perforation and looking back I think I have had diverticulitis all this time off and on over three decades. Now I am told to give up my vegan lifestyle in favor of 8 grams of fiber for the next two weeks and work up to only 28 grams of fiber. At this point I am willing to try anything to continue healing this one but jeesh - everything currently in my fridge has to go 😫

For the last 6 years not one doctor could diagnose my condition after ultrasound, CT scans, and an upper GI. I finally diagnosed the condition myself after reading a wealth of information. Ironically every bad episode was roughly every two years when I would go on some fad diet. I have been using the FODMAP system to see what I can eat normally and what sets off my diverticulitis into a firestorm of pain. For me personally if I’m having an episode I stay complete off fiber and solids only hydrating. After a good week of no pain I gradually introduce fiber into my diet. I’m 6’2 and 225 pounds for reference. I now consume a daily average of between 30-55 grams of fiber and have eliminated a ton of foods that I cannot digest normally. I’m able to enjoy about 75% of what I normally consumed and I do not miss the other 25%. I do everything I can to stay pain free. I stay away from most processed junk food and most sugars as they induce pain. Again everyone is different. Just sharing my personal perspective and what has finally kept me pain free.

Diverticulitis is probably the most painful I've ever felt in my entire life. So painful that I almost fainted while crying because I cannot breathe already. I thought deep breaths could help but it only makes the cramps more painful. I was rushed to the ER eventually and antibiotics helped. I wouldn't wish this pain on anybody. Please take care of your gut, drink more water, eat more fiber (eat it before protein or carbs), never force bowel movement, exercise and try intermittent fasting (I do OMAD). Mainly because I’ve taken pain killers for back pain. Obviously these have not helped. Most over the counter medications for constipation don’t work for me. But what has worked for me is a tablespoon of hummus every night when things are bad and 1/2 glass of tomato juice with Worcestershire sauce mixed, occasionally. I hope this helps someone.

It's not so much about the food you eat. That just aggravates the infection. Gut dysbiosis is what allows bad bacteria to infect your colon in the first place and cause this problem. Gut dysbiosis is an imbalance of your gut flora allowing the bad ones to take control and "bully" you with your diet. You need PROBIOTICS not anti (life) biotics!! Kefir is what worked for me. Grass fed, organic kefir (purchased at Publix) that is filled with trillions of probiotics, over 60 different varieties. I'm eating normally now.

If the doctors give you antibiotics for this condition you must take a good probiotic supplement. The probiotics will help to counteract the effects of the antibiotics which kill off good gut bacteria in addition to the bad bacteria which causes the inflammation and infection. I am still recovering and this is helping me. In fact, I have taken a probiotic supplement plus Activia yogurt which has probiotics in it for years now. It helped my IBS condition. I had diverticular disease aged 5! I almost died due to complications from it and ended up with a volvulus with my insides rotting. I obviously had to have a third of my bowel removed. I've had constant stomach/bowel problems ever since. All these people saying about "flare ups" happening every few weeks/months well, you have no idea how unbelievably lucky you are to only have it every so often. I wake up every single day with something wrong with my stomach/bowels. It's different every day. I keep getting fobbed off with "it's just anxiety" or "take this drug". I'm so sick of living. I'm even more sick that I've been treated for anxiety (even though I've told doctors that I'm not anxious) for years with many different drugs and therapies which haven't helped. I keep telling them that I was born with Poland Syndrome but most doctors don't even know what that is. It's only been 38 years of this torture. I've done everything that doctors, dietitians or gastroenterologists have said, most of which made me worse. I've tried a lot of other things like apple cider vinegar which helps with acid reflux, kefir, fermented foods, probiotic supplements and fasting, not to mention quite a few other things like specific diets. The only thing that vaguely helped was fasting but I don't want to stop, I don't ever want to eat anyway, I just have to force it down otherwise I'll make myself worse...I don't even know why I'm typing any of this to be honest...I've tried to kill myself 3 times now. I wish it had worked. It wasn't just the relentless illness along with depression and being suicidal but the fact that people, especially those that can help like doctors, don't believe me! Every single other medical professional says it must be terrible and wonder how I cope (I don't) and they tell me to tell my doctor! I wish that would help. I can fully understand people not understanding if they haven't experienced it but not believing it? That makes it all so much worse and I wouldn't wish this hell upon anyone.

The fat is dropping off even though I didn't really need to lose any. It makes me look better though. Less bloating. Fewer toilet trips etc. I've started the carnivore diet as well recently as it seems like there is a sliver of hope for some form of healing with it. It doesn't have to be pure meat. It can include fish, shellfish, eggs, dairy, bone broth etc. Bone broth is obviously amazing for healing, especially the gut. My symptoms have got slightly worse but that's to be expected. I've already seen good results in a week or so when it comes to how I deal with going without certain things, like sleep. Far less brain fog. More energy. There have also been times each day where I'm almost okay with my stomach problems, which is rare. I've just practiced intermittent fasting (OMAD) and now the carnivore diet (high fat diets help the fat drop off) with little things like not drinking too much water, not drinking it before, during and after meals and just not eating too much in general. I've learned a lot in the past few weeks about stuff that might actually help for once and without doctors. I'm actually addressing the causes and not the symptoms. Anyway, thank you again. I hope you are doing well? Take care

The only food that seems to set off diverticulitis for me is popcorn. I think it’s important to explain that there are different causes of diverticulosis versus diverticulitis. Diverticulosis is the condition, and diverticulitis is the inflammation of the diverticula. I treat with hot water bottles to the area consistently every day several times even. Eat probiotics. Obviously the next step is antibiotics, but I try to avoid. Very good ! Thank you! 🙏

Try to learn about raw primal diet people. It is the most elevating diet I tried for this issue so far. I do have flares and pains but I just bear with them, and i dont think we have the same level of pain compared to some comments I read. Although, Im proud to say No antibiotics, no whatever medicine taken to 'help' me or ER so far, thanks god. I wouldn't like to cure something temporarily and sacrifice other part of my health in the same time. Coz this illness is too much already. Im 2-3 years in the diet and it is not strict for me. It takes me lots of learning and adjustments. I still eat cooked foods sometimes, I guess that is one of our commons - eating delicious foods. Unfortunately, those are the times i get bad pains. Good thing about the diet is it helps your body generally if done right and by experience. I stopped taking vitamins and whatever tablets coz of the diet, strength wise and body weight wise still normal. I really build myself phuysically if I get in the tempo without any pain. I do sports, gym, wimhof ice cold shower and wimhof breathing technique, nidra yoga to fight the anxieties and stresses related to it...i noticed stress is a huge trigger. Though im not doing the meditation and breathing consistently. I want to underline that when I was doing it consistently first thing in the morning, ice cold shower plus the diet. I had better effect until I get knocked off the track by stress (work related, family relsted etc) or eating cooked food for some days:). Consistency should be one of the key for my path which I work with. Why i had taken this path? Coz I believe medicine and doctors wont help you to a 100% recovery, and maintenance and surgery is not an option... Also, I went deeper with dry fasting but did not continue it due to my body weight. I believe some answers could also be found there. But I focus on the primal diet as it is building and detoxing in the same time unlike fasting. Raw fat is holy in the diet as fat work just like an oil for a car, it lubricates the system. Eating raw animal based fat is great for this problem. Like raw milk cream, raw BUTTER, raw cheese and etc. There should be plenty of info about the diet if anyone is interested. Im not strict coz my source of food is not continuous due to my locations and I like eatimg cooked foods sometimes or most of the times :). Im still learning and adjusting with the diet. If done strict and disciplined I believe it would be more rewarding in many ways. This is just my opinion people, a little glimpse of the progress of my path in short. I just wanted to share. Coz, i noticed people with this issue are really lost just like me. More strength and power to all of you. Peace.

My husband has had this for years and the only times we've found he has flare ups is if he accidentally eats any nuts or seeds. I've read the studies that say nuts and seeds are not bad, but when he tries to eat, bam, flare. Even tomatoes. The only thing we've found he can have is pickles, and we think it's due to the fact that it soaks in the vinegar for so long, the seeds are easy to digest. I'd suggest trying to keep what you have since you sound uber healthy, but take out the nuts and remove tomatoes to see if that might do the trick. We use slippery elm capsules for flares, but of course check with your doctor. For example, he can take them but I cannot as I'm on actual medications that can not absorb, so it's a great herbal and works, but just be on the safe side if you might take anything else, etc. (ya know, the usual med disclaimer ;) ) Best of luck!

Misinformation at the very outset of this video. Diverticulitis is not age related!
@Mohini52

I don’t think you understand what she meant by that. I’m sure she is aware that anyone is susceptible to it, it’s just as you get older you are probably more susceptible to this condition.

@Rhonda Cliett "Diverticulitus is a condition of the bowel where, very common actually as you age, you get the small pockets or pouches, as they are often referred to, in the...mostly in the colon" This was her answer to the question "What is diverticulitus?" Her response is indicative of her belief age is a factor in it forming. It is not! Statements, such as these, are disempowering and false.

I was gut healthy, strong,2022, bitten by a Dog twice, major antibiotics. CDIFF! 3 months later diverticulitis, they want to put me on the same antibiotics that gave me CDIFF. I just can't make myself take the antibiotics, CDIFF is more painful than diverticulitis! Just imagine a combination of CDIFF for the 3rd time in one year, accompanied with diverticulitis?

Ripe fruit only mornings until midday. Avoid bananas. Evacuates the bowel reducing pressure and healing lower bowel. Ripe Fruit only for the whole day.or even 2 days if in bad flare up. Never eat large meals again once healed.
