I haven’t talked to my narcissistic mother in over a year, to try and heal myself. It’s been a crazy slow journey. I still struggle immensely with insecurity, self conscious behaviors and nervous ticks that happen because of her. And I miss her every single day. That’s the part that no one talks about. No matter how badly they treated you there is a huge part of you that will miss them, and it leaves a big gaping hole in your heart. Today, I almost sent a compulsive message explaining to her that I missed her. Which I do. But I distracted myself instead with music and my art, and that’s when I found this song. It sobered me right up and reminded me of why I can’t speak with her. I lost myself in being something for her that I couldn’t be, because it just wasn’t who I am. Thank you for sharing your voice so beautifully in a way that resonates with us so well.
