I went from a 172 ph1 to a 220 trophy, it's substantially better car to live. I'd agree the MK4 is better in every single way (Except the fuel economy, 35mpg in my 172 on avg, this is 28mpg), but I do miss my 172. I think the thing the MK2 had in bucket loads was character, also bolstered by the performance to price, the MK4 does not have the same sort of clout in that department.
Try a 220 facelift Trophy with Akra exhaust. You won't notice any faults...just exhaust noise brrrr psssh. This being said, the car is more "grown up": more boot space, auto box for easy city drive, BT media/nav etc...and it's also the last of a hot hatch RS generation :(
Fully get that. As you say though I think it's the more grown up nature of the car and that's something I don't want in a hot hatch. I want to terrorise neighbourhoods lol
Agree 100% with everything said about chocolate! I would be interested to set some lap times in one of these compared to my mk3 clio200 as I reckon the na car is better set for track. These are nice road cars though arent they. Good video 👌🏻🐸🇫🇷
Thanks. Yes. They are a great road car ... More comfortable and refined than the previous generations for sure ... But lacking that bit of RS magic overall as a track or B road weapon!
