which ironically here it shouldn't have been. It has worse brakes, it weighs more and has no functional aero. I wonder genuinely how well the clio was being driven. if you watch the autocar video, the little clio almost keeps up with a focus RS! this little fiesta should have been a walkover.
pretty good drivers in my opinion; the clio driver is the better one and also the clio is much better in the braking areas and on hard corners; the fiesta has the speed(accelerations), the medium speed corners and the fast ones; impressed by both cars; each has its own strengths abd weaknesses; my mind is telling me ST montune...my heart is screaming at 8000rpm RSSSSS!
The clio doesn't rev to 8000rpm ;) I owned a clio 3 rs with recaros, speedlines an cup suspension. Had it for nearly 6 months, an got thoroughly fed up of it. The engine sounds like a sewing machine, except has less torque. It gets destroyed in a straight line by 2.0 diesels unless you are over 5000rpm an even then it doesn't really lose them that quickly. It drank nearly a litre of oil every week, which is "in spec" according to renault. it was also incapable of achieving 30mpg, I averaged 24.5mpg. The gearbox also started to crunch into second an third at which point I sold it. I've now got a Fiesta St, its a much better car all round. Its marginally quicker point to point, a fair bit more refined, you can stroke it around on the torque when you want and it'll achieve nearly 40 mpg.
showusurbeaver Hi. Thank you for your reply. the clio 3 rs was one of the cars I was contemplating buying as my next car; in my mind it was the RenaulsSport version of the GT3 RS; and I am pretty sure I saw the redline starting at 8000rpm. But, what you are saying makes sense. for a winding road, you need torque and good gearing..so, a good little turbo engine and a decent chassis would be much more relevant than a screaming 2 litre engine that need to be revved to an inch of its life. cheers, E.
eugenux no one at the ring buys a Fiesta St to use it as a Ringtool. no one... There about 10 3 Clio RS Rintools a day and only one Fiesta. think about that. For the ring, the clio is much better and cheaper... For normal street. Buy the Fiesta..
Thommi JoJo Thanks for your reply. Loved the way you striped the door-faces and carpets(probably a lot of the soundening as well); unfortunately for me, Nurburg is at over 2500kms away so I have to settle with our country's mountain roads(and also day to day driving); in my case, the sensible option seems to be something like a fiesta ST with a Montune up-grade. then again, at the moment, they are similar priced with 2010-2011 Megane RSs...so maybe that would be the better option in the end. Regards, E.
I've driven both. The Clio was marginally better on the straights (felt a bit more firm and planted) but the Fiesta ST (standard, not 215 upgrade) was so much tighter in the corners, where the Clio understeered and just felt a bit chunky. If you're considering them, I'd recommend the ST.
Thommi JoJo Based on what??? The fact that you own one? haha. Fiesta ST is pulling the clio clearly in stock form. Fiesta ST is better for track and daily driven
Thats every reviewer's opinion, please youtube the review of the fiesta ST. It has won 48 awards in its first year. lol. can the clio do a 8:20BTG @ nurburg? I dont think so!
