CLIVE HOUSE (DUMDUM) : Clive house probably the oldest building of kolkata, situated in ward no 8 in South dum dum municipal area (dumdum ). Some historians says that this building was made by nawab 'Ali bardi khan' this building was also known as "Bara kothi" At that time and after the defeat of nawab ' siraj ud dullah' who was the last independent king of undivided Bengal, captured by Robert Clive the first major general of British East India company also known as first British govornor of Bengal presidency. From then this building and all the surrounding places is called Clive house area.
This building is more than 300 years old and present time 70% of this building has been damaged. In the year of 2001 archeological survey of India did excavate the ground attached of this building and they found many precious clay pots,stones, swords and four human Scaliton which indicates that this place was more than 2000 years old (Gupta era), from then ASI took the whole building and surrounding area as historic place. But now a days whole building and the surrounding area has been maintained by archeological survey of India, cause this building provides much more historical value in India. Due to Negligence and lack of advertisement a very few percentage of people knows about the history of this building otherwise this place might have been a tourist place like mursidabad.
