“we spent 4 days down in the dungeon handling business. you did exactly what you wanted to do. i watched you fall on your face so many fucking times with 7simul, so this was enough to make me cry. proud of you dude.” - Dad
that quote just about sums up what this journey has been like for me. i switched to 7simul in the fall, and started to get below my flip times with it. I eventually got to a 3.5 global before my first ever time using the method in competition, so the nerves were high. I ended up DNFing my average, which would have beaten the current WR by more than .3 seconds without them. This showed potential to me, and 3 months later I double DNFed my last two solves in finals out of a 3.01 WR average. I was devastated over this one, given that it could be my last chance at WR in a while. 2.52 happened and I just decided that I will go for taking back my NAR average from 2 years ago. I had one more comp and 2 more rounds before NAC to hopefully boost my confidence going into it. I got a 6 average in round 1, and DNFed 4 out of 5 of my solves in finals. I was so terrified thinking about going into NAC, so I spent the weeks leading up to it deeply analyzing the way I solve and think in comp compared to the at home counterparts. I found a consistent solving style, and I went with it. NAC round 1 started off really bad with 4.11 and 5.79, but at least I wasn't dnfing. The 3rd solve was a 3.34 off by 1 tick on AUF, so i heavy safetied on the last 2, which went fine with a 4.08 and 3.79. these two solves were definitely solved at sub 2.8 or so, so I wasn't too mad at the performance. NAC semis: The night before, i did intense compsims with Daniel Karnaukh, and if felt prepared going into tomorrow. I had major nerves in the hotel room after I woke up, and being at the venue. I went into semis with the same intentions of solving well, and making finals. I DNFed solve 1 by M1, which was really stupid but I kept myself together by talking to my friends in the waiting area. next two solves were 3.11 and 3.05 with safety flips, and i was very satisfied at this point and most of my nerves had gone away. the next solve was a 5.55 with a hard mess up during the 5th or 6th simul move, but I was fine with the time as it wasn't like above 6. Last solve was a 3.44 and I was very satisfied with my average, almost being sub 4. Finals came around after lunch and I was doing compsims with Drake. I was pretty confident going into it surrounded by people I loved. And there it happened, I was finally able to overcome the biggest mental barrier not just in my cubing career, but my whole life. I appreciate all the people I hung out with this week, and most importantly my family who were there watching me. Thank you to everyone who made this moment unforgettable.
it's over.

Brendyn, Dude what can I say. When I woke up to you saying you made 3x3 finals I was as happy as ever, but then going to WCA live to see you breaking NAR in NAC finals!!! I WAS LIKE "NO WAY" that's something not many can say they've done, especially with the dnf streak you've had. I can not imagine the relief that overcame you once you broke this barrier, you've worked harder than anyone else that I know, you bounce back after failure with a new outlook and a new strive to break a record you've been so close to beat so many times, and what a comp and a round to break it in. In short I couldn't be more happier for a good friend of mine :) All the best for the future man! See you in future comps.

brendyn, it was worth every discord call since day 1. it was worth the hours of practice. every clock solve you have done up until this day, paid off. every time you competed in this godforsaken event, we were rooting for you. it was worth the tears, the anger, the fails. i always believed clock was a cruel event. funny enough, your grandpa that morning gave me a better outlook on what happened to me and drake yesterday. he told us that it gets better, no matter how much we doubt ourselves. i normally don't take people's advice that seriously, but i kept his words with me that day. soon enough, i watched you get nar in the audienced. i watched you through a screen for nearly the past 4 years, i always knew you would do great things but this is one of the arcs of all time. you almost can't win in clock, but when you do, it pays off.
