Hi Danny- David LaBounty here... Great question! Yes, you could cut the threads on the screw blank before parting off the screw but, with the setup I was using in the video, I would need to move the cross slide out of the way in order to get my die holder into position. That would mean a loss of accuracy if I was trying to make more than one screw and I would need to setup the tooling again. I found it saves time to blank them out and then cut the threads in a separate step. There is tooling which will allow you to cut the threads without loss of accuracy but it isn't something the average clockmaker has available.
