Clodagh Rodgers Someone To Love Me (1971) From the album Rodgers and Heart
Clodagh Rodgers (born 5 March 1947) is a retired singer from Northern Ireland, best known for her hit singles including "Come Back and Shake Me", "Goodnight Midnight", and "Jack in the Box". With this last song, she represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 1971. The single reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart, her third UK Top 10 success. It remains her most famous hit. The record was also successful all over Europe.

I really fancied this woman when I was a small kid . Music is a bit cheesy but she was the tasty bit.

I bought this record for Jack In The Box on the A side, it was a 33 RPM 7 inches record as this & Winds Of Change came joint second so both were on the B side, I played it a few times at 45 by mistake. Prefer this to JITB...

‘Someone To Love Me’ and ‘Another Time, Another Place’ were my personal Eurovision favourites. Loved hearing Clodagh sing every song and she gave it her all. I agree that Clodagh is up there with the likes of Dusty, Sandie and Cilla. All brilliant in their own right. Clodagh could sing any style which is reflected in her album release. Please Cherry Red …. release a Clodagh box set of her original albums + a CD of rarities or a similar CD box set in a hard back bookstyle similar to the Kiki Dee collections.

@GRAHAM2109 It seems that rules are often modified in that certain songs are "original" in that the Rees English version SOMEBODY TO LOVE 1971 is Original in English but as I said ITALY ORIGINAL. There are also sometimes claims that certain Original Euro songs "derive" from older recorded hits etc. What matters is that the song is MELODIC and GREAT as this one by Clodagh Rodgers certainly is.

@fcuktodd Clodagh sang 5 songs and the public voted ( by postcard back then) to choose the Song for Europe this one came 2nd to Jack in the Box.

Yes - this is the song that came second in A Song For Europe 1971. She took 'Jack in the Box' to Dublin for the UK and came fourth.

+whyayetv - I remember now I voted for her to sing this instead of Jack in the Box, but I guess that 'Jack' was more like Puppet on a String, so it won, postal votes back then !!! - we seemed to do better when the public voted, but back then there were only around 15 countries that entered the contest..

+jrgboy there wasn't a postal vote that year due a postal strike. Instead, regional juries were used. There is a suggestion the outcome may have been different had it been a public vote and this would've been the winner. Also, check out Another Time, Another Place, also in the 1971 contest, which became a hit for Engelbert Humperdinck later in the year.

@GRAHAM2109 PONTICELLI is the ITALIAN ORIGINAL writer of SOMEBODY TO LOVE ME and Rees is the English songwriter who translated the Italian words to give us SOMEBODY TO LOVE 1971. QED.
