One difference is some of The companies don't want you to be honest and won't continue working with you if your honest in many cases, Reate and companies alike do not ask you to say anything nor care if you are honest. I'm honest regardless but it does become an issue if they refuse to deal with you

Gosh this guy makes absolutely the most informative and precise observations, and I tend to trust facts over anything else, and he provides all the facts! Made in China and someone at the same factory is using the same production line with a bit different materials and selling them 😂. And nobody has realized yet. Because those specs are spooky close.

The phenomena of positive reviews for every new knife that comes out, even from unproven Chinese makers, is a huge red flag. RU-vidrs somewhat act as the balancing weight and the voice of the consumer. As such, my expectation would be for RU-vidrs, and those on similar journalistic platforms, to challenge quality and cost of the products they review. It feels like the EDC community has strayed far from this and impartiality. I appreciate the honesty!

That's not a clone, that's a production knife with a crap steel, that didnt make it to the laser etching machine.

Alot Clones have gotten very good as of the past couple years. Honestly the type of materials is the biggest difference on some. You really have to get into the small details to tell you have a counterfeit.

I totally agree with you and enjoy what you are doing Love your knowledge on technology on machining. I have had experience in machining also cnc. I've gotten nicknamed human micrometer because of compensating for machining math. I could visually see 15th thousands on a cut . I understand you and reasoning but most people that I call Lambs, is what these companies rely on. These people eat everything thrown at them. I've also had experience in sales so I can notice how sales centers push knives on you Thank you for what you are doing

I don’t think I have any clones but I really enjoy your science and engineering use in your videos. I will say I have that same Hogue Mysto and I’m definitely keeping mine. I’m guessing mine should be close to same hardness and I enjoy it. Wish I could resub😊.

If I had to guess, I’d go with your first theory which is that they are simply made by Reate or through some sort of partnership with them. The entire industry is based in one city (yangjang) and is very interconnected from my understanding, much like how the Japanese knife industry got going. Varying degrees of quality done through different “services” depending on the end cost

If they put just as much work into the bladesteel/grind/finnish, I would never buy "american" again. I am norwegian though

Several popular knife companies from there cut their teeth by producing clones of CRK Sebenzas and other brands. Another produced clones of Yeti cups that were every bit as good altered the design and sold them under its own brand name. It is definitely interesting to see this development. I agree with your assessment that this isn't one company pirating another.

This is good for people who want a real exo as a collection piece, but also want to play with one.

Wow what a terrible hrc reading on that clone. Well I was questioning if that clone was worth it but that thing want hold an edge for nothing.

Funny.... I've been in the market for a gravity knife. I own dozens of autos/OTF's but not a single gravity knife. I want something special but after doing some research there's not many options.

I tested my 3v Exo-M at 59.9 hrc, which is smack in the middle of their advertised 59-61 range. I'm not a machinist, but it seems to me that anyone who's good at CAD and who has a set of calipers could duplicate the Reate design more or less exactly. There are many clone knives that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing ... visually.

24:42 Good up, so basically your grumpy cause reate ( obviously a smaller china made knife company) are smarter cause they are able to use knife reviewers ( which do this for a living and some, not all will push any knife no matter the quality, while others disclose that they got the knife for free but still give it a bad review if it's bad.) if you ask me I think it's more of a thing to find knife tubers who have integrity and you can trust them some random kid reading offa paper for the advertiser. Still I like your videos but just seems a little funny how bitter he is that anyone would date take a sponsor and actually get paid. It's called capitalism. No matter what industry there are honest and there are sell it advertisers for them but sht not every company is able to spend millions of dollars in advertising. To be honest I'd rather hear about a product from someone familiar with that industry instead of some bs advertisement only telling you they have the best product ever cause maybe it's for a little butterfly or over sized finger flicking hole ... But to each their own still live your videos pretty decent info to learn for newer folks.
